Last week, I was taken aback when I took Harold to the vet, thinking he had a stomach bug. However, after numerous tests and an ultrasound, the heartbreaking diagnosis was liver cancer. We went through some tough days, including one especially difficult day. But now, Harold is back to his old self - eating, drinking, and asserting his demands as usual. The treatment approach is focused on keeping him comfortable and pain-free until the inevitable arrives.
We adopted Harold in 2017. Four days after he joined our family, he had to have neck surgery for a herniated disc. After the operation, the specialist asked us to fetch him earlier than usual because he was jumping up and down in the cage and barking nonstop, which was upsetting the other patients.
So, the demands, judgments, and sometimes threats beganđ I have been bitten several times because I picked Harold up when he did not want to be picked up or when he wanted to be picked up, and I, according to him, ignored him or his favourite saying, I am apparently treating him like an animal!
It is a well-known fact that Dad is the cool parent, and all the cool kids hang out with him. Despite this, Harold stuck with me and still does, and he now allows me to kiss him as often as I want to.
So, for now, we are not sad; we are celebrating our boy, hoping for more time, and enjoy each day with him.
