Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter NANAS Advocates Spay & Neuter To Get To The Root Cause of the Stray Animal Over-Population Crisis OUR VISION: Less stray animals on the streets.

NOAH’S ARK NATURAL ANIMAL SHELTER (NANAS)

* A non-profit and non-governmental organisation founded in 1995 by Raymund Wee in Singapore.

* The free roaming and no-kill sanctuary moved to Johor, Malaysia in 2000.

* Due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, NANAS aims to make the shelter redundant as the current practice of sheltering animals is no longer sustainable.

* “Warehousing” o

f rescued street animals will not solve the stray over-population problem. THE SOLUTION: Sterilisation is the most humane and effective method to get to the root cause of the growing number of stray animals on the streets. OUR MISSION:
* To reduce the stray population using spay and neuter.

* To create awareness, inform and educate pet owners and stray caregivers about the benefits of spay and neuter.

* To work consistently and effectively with the authorities and the community to create an even greater impact for the benefit of stray animals. MONTHLY SPAY & NEUTER PROGRAMMES
* Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinics in Johor Bahru, Muar and Melaka work with local municipal councils to offer low cost spay and neuter services at monthly programmes.

* Pet owners are encouraged to sterilise their animals at subsidised rates, who would otherwise not do so due to their financial circumstances.

* Caregivers of stray dogs and cats could apply for assistance if they cannot afford the fees. MISSION HELP ’S ARK
* This programme offers low cost veterinary fees for sick or injured animals belonging to pet owners or stray caregivers requiring financial assistance. SANCTUARY OPERATIONS
* We honour our commitment to look after the existing animals.

* The biggest cost is food for 700 dogs and 300 cats.

* Funds also needed for palliative care and special diets for terminally ill animals, medical supplies, veterinary services and operational costs. HELP US CONTINUE OUR WORK! Transfer Details:

In Loving Memory of Heidi
by Katherine Tan

In October 2015, my life changed when I first set eyes on you, Heidi. You welcomed me to NANAS by standing on your hind legs, reaching up for a hug. Right then, I knew you were special, and I committed to sponsoring you. That was the beginning of nine beautiful years together.

Though your past was a mystery—why you were abandoned, or what heartbreak you’d endured—those questions became irrelevant. What mattered was the present, the love and care you received at the sanctuary.

When we first met, you had a bit of a temperamental streak. You weren’t a fan of showers, grooming, or leashes, and you’d bolt if someone tried to pat you unexpectedly. But with patience, we turned those dislikes into new comforts. I made shower time a spa ritual, full of massages and kisses. Gradually, you trusted the leash as it led us on adventures to the horse stables, where you could run freely with the other dogs.

Our bond only deepened as I started visiting every month. But then COVID separated us for more than two years, and I could only hope you felt my love from afar. When I finally saw you again, your health had started to decline, yet your spirit was still strong. I cherished those moments, knowing our time was precious. Little did I realize that September 2024 would be our last meeting.

I miss you, Heidi. I miss that pretty face and those hugs you’d so generously offer. May you rest peacefully, knowing how loved you were. Your friend Breezy and all the other furkids at NANAS will feel the void you’ve left. You may be gone, but your spirit will always be a part of the sanctuary and my heart.

Rest well, sweet angel. 🌈🐾

🐾 The Serendipitous Tale of Pablo, the Car Wash Dog 🐾
by Eric & Evelyn

Sometimes, life brings unexpected connections. After a late-night meal at Yi Jia Seafood Restaurant in JB’s Bukit Indah, we decided to find a car wash. The one on Google Maps was closed, so we took a chance and drove around, eventually ending up at ‘Option 2 Auto Spa and Detailing’.

While waiting, we noticed an adorable young dog, sniffing at our sandals (likely picking up the scent of the dogs at Noah’s Ark we’d visited earlier). After chatting with JT the owner, we learned the dog - now named Pablo - had wandered into the car wash about a month ago and made it his home. As they say, sometimes, the dog chooses you, and that’s exactly what Pablo did.

We introduced ourselves as Noah’s Ark volunteers and asked JT if he’d be open to sterilizing Pablo. To our delight, JT was incredibly supportive, sharing that he admired Noah’s Ark’s work and had already planned to vaccinate Pablo and we arranged to bring him in for the next spay day.

26 October - we picked up Pablo and took him to Noah’s Ark animal birth control clinic. Despite a few curious looks out the window and some playful nibbles on the newspapers and p*e pads, he was a calm and behaved all the whole way.

Pablo recovered quickly from surgery, bouncing right back to his playful self. JT welcomed him home with open arms, thanked us with a free car wash - a true win-win!

A big thank you to JT for giving Pablo shelter. If you’re ever in Bukit Indah, give ‘Option 2 Auto Spa and Detailing’ a visit. Great service, and even greater hearts behind it. 🐶❤️

Update on Auto-gate Puppy
10 October 2024

Remember this puppy? Her paws were crushed by a closing auto-gate but we managed to save them. Her wounds have healed beautifully and she can now hobble around. While it’s not perfect, she is not limited by this setback.

This is all made possible under MissionHelp@NoahsArk. This puppy has been surrendered to us. If we had not stepped in, “Auto-gate Puppy” as she is fondly called would not have made it.

She is a loving, playful pup, full of spirit. Sadly, the chances of her being adopted are slim and it’s likely she’ll remain with us at the shelter. That means another mouth to feed for another 10 to 15 years.

Could you help with her ongoing medical costs and sponsor her stay at the shelter? Any amount, no matter the size, would make a huge difference in ensuring she has the care she needs.

Note:
- All treatments have been paid for by Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinic.
- In addition to offering low cost spay & neuter fees, we also subsidise medical and treatment fees to help stray caregivers and pet owners with limited income.
- Instalment payments are also available upon application for people who cannot afford payment in full.

Low cost does not mean we have no cost!

We need to pay our vets, employees, rental, utilities, medicine, medical supplies and other operational expenses to run this clinic 7 days a week.

Please contribute to allow us to continue helping more people and their animals.

Thank you for your your support and generosity.

Dear Kind Souls Who Wish to Remain Anonymous,

A heartfelt thank you for your generous donation of dog food for the animals at Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter. Your kindness goes a long way in making a difference in their lives.

A big thank you as well to Superpets for contributing pet food and treats! Your support is deeply appreciated.

Our wonderful volunteers delivered everything to the shelter yesterday morning, and we are happy to report that the goods passed the thorough inspection of our enthusiastic doggie Procurement Team! 🐾

Together, we’re making the world a better place for these animals.

🐾 Meet Tiga, the Clinic Cat! 🐾

Tiga was once a street cat, but he decided that life at Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinic is just too good to pass up! 😸

Originally brought in for sterilisation, we released him back after his recovery. But to our surprise, Tiga kept coming back, strolling into the clinic like he belonged! Smart kitty, huh? 😄

With cozy lodging, meals on demand, and air-con facilities, it’s no wonder he made himself at home. Who could resist?

Of course, to earn his keep, Tiga has an important job – he’s in charge of patrolling the clinic at night. 🕵️‍♂️🐱

Life is definitely good here for Tiga, and we couldn’t be happier to have him as part of our team! ❤️

URGENT APPEAL: Please Help Save This Brave Puppy

This little puppy lived in a factory and loved to run and play by the auto-gate. But one tragic day, the closing gate trapped one front and one back paw, crushing them severely.

Workers rushed the puppy to our clinic as soon as it was freed, and though in excruciating pain, this brave little girl didn’t even whimper during the vet's examination.

Painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication were administered and its wounds were carefully dressed. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, we are uncertain if we can save its paws. The road ahead is long and uncertain but we are determined to give this puppy the best chance at recovery.

The workers asked their boss to help out with the medical bill of RM500 but he flatly refused so they had to fork out the amount among themselves. While the factory workers wanted to care for it, they ultimately surrendered the puppy to us, realising the daily wound care and eventual surgery were beyond what they could manage.

Now, this puppy is placed under MissionHelp@NoahsArk and it will require weeks of medical attention, followed by surgery and aftercare.

Could you help to cover the costs of its medical treatment and surgery? Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a huge difference in this puppy’s life. With your support, we can help it heal and live a happy, pain-free life.

Please consider making a contribution and share this post to help this brave soul. Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

URGENT UPDATE:
NANAS Dogs and Cats Need Your Help!

It’s been a week since our SOS. Thank you to those who have responded to our call for help. Funds are trickling in but it’s not enough to cover the food bill. The situation is dire—without your support, we won’t be able to feed our dogs and cats.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Your help is urgently needed to keep our animals fed and healthy while we focus on keeping the number of stray animals on the streets under control in our Spay & Neuter Programmes.

Contribute now to make a difference.

Please see our original post below.

**2024 NANAS FOOD APPEAL**

Hello everyone! Remember us? We are the dogs and cats at NANAS and we are sending you an SOS because we are running out of food again!

Yes, you have donated last year but all that money is gone and we need more money to buy more food. All deliveries have stopped until we pay up. Please help us!

We are doing our best to ration our food but we need to eat every day. Having to feed 700 dogs and 300 cats on a daily basis is taking a toll on our finances.

Thanks to the care they give us, we are living longer, up to 15 years. Besides food, we also require more medical attention as we age. All this comes at a huge cost that is now completely unsustainable as donations have dropped to an all-time low.

The people at the shelter are now concentrating on spay and neuter to reduce the number of stray animals on the streets. This will not only benefit us but also all shelters facing the same challenges.

Fewer strays mean fewer animals needing shelter. It is that simple! We are doing our utmost to achieve our goal in our spay and neuter programmes.

In the meantime, for the rest of us who are fortunate enough to have this place we call home, we need your help to feed us while they look after us until our final days.

🚨 Appeal for Help: Rescue and Care for Two Ginger Cats 🚨

We recently responded to a heart-wrenching call for help involving two ginger cats belonging to Uncle K, an elderly man in his 80s. The living conditions were unimaginable — trash from the entrance to the kitchen and bedrooms, cat p*e and hardened poo everywhere, a stench that was overwhelming, maggots from leftover food, and a pail of water turned black. It’s hard to understand how anyone, let alone two innocent cats, could live in such a state.

Uncle K’s Story:
Uncle K, unable to support himself or care for his cats, was found in dire need of medical help with no income. Thanks to Olivia, a compassionate community nurse, Uncle K was admitted to a nursing home. Concerned for the welfare of the cats, Olivia posted an appeal for help.

About MissionHelp@NoahsArk:
• To support seniors living alone with no family members to care for their pets, due to sickness, disability or death.
• To assist low income seniors if their pet requires medical treatment.

Rescue Mission:
We reached out to Olivia and offered our assistance. We picked up the cats from the empty house, expecting them to be fearful and aggressive. To our surprise, they were calm, allowing us to place them into carriers without a fuss.

We took them to KIN Veterinary Clinic for temporary boarding and medical attention. Dr Alice attended to the cats and they were understandably stressed, with their hearts racing, but we made sure they felt safe and comfortable.

Immediate Care Provided:
- Weighed them and severely under weight
- Trimmed their overgrown nails
- Assessed their severely decayed teeth, which will require dental scaling to prevent gum infection
- A safe space for them to rest in the comfort of a clean environment

These middle-aged cats are incredibly sociable and affectionate, a testament to Uncle K’s love for them. They’ve shown no aggression or hissing, only a desire for cuddles and care.

How You Can Help:
We need your support to cover their medical aid and welfare. Every contribution helps to make a significant difference.

Our Story

In 1995, Noah’s Ark Lodge Private Animal Shelter was set up in Singapore by Raymund Wee to give animals that have been abused, abandoned and made homeless, a second chance to live out the rest of their lives with dignity. When the lease expired in June 2000, the sanctuary, including all its inhabitants, was moved to Johor, Malaysia and Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) was established on a 10-acre site near Gelang Patah. The sanctuary is now home to 700 dogs, 300 cats, 6 horses and other rescued animals. Noah’s Ark CARES was registered in June 2005 to be the Singapore arm of NANAS and in addition to its activities in Singapore was also responsible for supporting shelter operations while NANAS could focus on the care of the animals at the sanctuary. PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT NANAS MALAYSIA SEPARATED FROM NA CARES ON 1 JULY 2016. THE TWO ENTITIES ARE NO LONGER AFFILIATED TO EACH OTHER. This is because NA CARES was granted charity status on 9 May 2016 and had to abide by the rules and regulations imposed by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. FUNDS RAISED IN SINGAPORE COULD NO LONGER BE USED TO FUND SANCTUARY OPERATIONS IN MALAYSIA. A new entity, Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter in Singapore was formed on 27 July 2016 to replace NA CARES to continue its mission to help animals in need, both in Singapore and Malaysia. The top priority is the welfare of the animals. Funds are much needed for daily shelter operations which include food for the animals, salary for workers, rental, diesel for generating electricity and all other expenses incurred in running the shelter. TOTAL COST IS S$35,000 PER MONTH OF WHICH A LARGE PORTION GOES TOWARDS FOOD.
