Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter NANAS Advocates Spay & Neuter To Get To The Root Cause of the Stray Animal Over-Population Crisis OUR VISION: Less stray animals on the streets.

NOAH’S ARK NATURAL ANIMAL SHELTER (NANAS)

* A non-profit and non-governmental organisation founded in 1995 by Raymund Wee in Singapore.

* The free roaming and no-kill sanctuary moved to Johor, Malaysia in 2000.

* Due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, NANAS aims to make the shelter redundant as the current practice of sheltering animals is no longer sustainable.

* “Warehousing” o

f rescued street animals will not solve the stray over-population problem. THE SOLUTION: Sterilisation is the most humane and effective method to get to the root cause of the growing number of stray animals on the streets. OUR MISSION:
* To reduce the stray population using spay and neuter.

* To create awareness, inform and educate pet owners and stray caregivers about the benefits of spay and neuter.

* To work consistently and effectively with the authorities and the community to create an even greater impact for the benefit of stray animals. MONTHLY SPAY & NEUTER PROGRAMMES
* Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinics in Johor Bahru, Muar and Melaka work with local municipal councils to offer low cost spay and neuter services at monthly programmes.

* Pet owners are encouraged to sterilise their animals at subsidised rates, who would otherwise not do so due to their financial circumstances.

* Caregivers of stray dogs and cats could apply for assistance if they cannot afford the fees. MISSION HELP ’S ARK
* This programme offers low cost veterinary fees for sick or injured animals belonging to pet owners or stray caregivers requiring financial assistance. SANCTUARY OPERATIONS
* We honour our commitment to look after the existing animals.

* The biggest cost is food for 700 dogs and 300 cats.

* Funds also needed for palliative care and special diets for terminally ill animals, medical supplies, veterinary services and operational costs. HELP US CONTINUE OUR WORK! Transfer Details:

URGENT UPDATE:
NANAS Dogs and Cats Need Your Help!

It’s been a week since our SOS. Thank you to those who have responded to our call for help. Funds are trickling in but it’s not enough to cover the food bill. The situation is dire—without your support, we won’t be able to feed our dogs and cats.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Your help is urgently needed to keep our animals fed and healthy while we focus on keeping the number of stray animals on the streets under control in our Spay & Neuter Programmes.

Contribute now to make a difference.

Please see our original post below.

**2024 NANAS FOOD APPEAL**

Hello everyone! Remember us? We are the dogs and cats at NANAS and we are sending you an SOS because we are running out of food again!

Yes, you have donated last year but all that money is gone and we need more money to buy more food. All deliveries have stopped until we pay up. Please help us!

We are doing our best to ration our food but we need to eat every day. Having to feed 700 dogs and 300 cats on a daily basis is taking a toll on our finances.

Thanks to the care they give us, we are living longer, up to 15 years. Besides food, we also require more medical attention as we age. All this comes at a huge cost that is now completely unsustainable as donations have dropped to an all-time low.

The people at the shelter are now concentrating on spay and neuter to reduce the number of stray animals on the streets. This will not only benefit us but also all shelters facing the same challenges.

Fewer strays mean fewer animals needing shelter. It is that simple! We are doing our utmost to achieve our goal in our spay and neuter programmes.

In the meantime, for the rest of us who are fortunate enough to have this place we call home, we need your help to feed us while they look after us until our final days.

🚨 Appeal for Help: Rescue and Care for Two Ginger Cats 🚨

We recently responded to a heart-wrenching call for help involving two ginger cats belonging to Uncle K, an elderly man in his 80s. The living conditions were unimaginable — trash from the entrance to the kitchen and bedrooms, cat p*e and hardened poo everywhere, a stench that was overwhelming, maggots from leftover food, and a pail of water turned black. It’s hard to understand how anyone, let alone two innocent cats, could live in such a state.

Uncle K’s Story:
Uncle K, unable to support himself or care for his cats, was found in dire need of medical help with no income. Thanks to Olivia, a compassionate community nurse, Uncle K was admitted to a nursing home. Concerned for the welfare of the cats, Olivia posted an appeal for help.

About MissionHelp@NoahsArk:
• To support seniors living alone with no family members to care for their pets, due to sickness, disability or death.
• To assist low income seniors if their pet requires medical treatment.

Rescue Mission:
We reached out to Olivia and offered our assistance. We picked up the cats from the empty house, expecting them to be fearful and aggressive. To our surprise, they were calm, allowing us to place them into carriers without a fuss.

We took them to KIN Veterinary Clinic for temporary boarding and medical attention. Dr Alice attended to the cats and they were understandably stressed, with their hearts racing, but we made sure they felt safe and comfortable.

Immediate Care Provided:
- Weighed them and severely under weight
- Trimmed their overgrown nails
- Assessed their severely decayed teeth, which will require dental scaling to prevent gum infection
- A safe space for them to rest in the comfort of a clean environment

These middle-aged cats are incredibly sociable and affectionate, a testament to Uncle K’s love for them. They’ve shown no aggression or hissing, only a desire for cuddles and care.

How You Can Help:
We need your support to cover their medical aid and welfare. Every contribution helps to make a significant difference.

📅 **A Memorable Return to Noah’s Ark** 🌈

Our last tour to Noah’s Ark was in 2019, just before the pandemic. Yesterday, we finally had our first tour in 5 years!

🛑 **First Stop: Animal Birth Control Clinic**

We started our day at the Noah’s Ark Animal Birth Control Clinic, where our founder Raymund and Jaco, our rescued baby macaque, greeted the group. Betty explained the clinic's mission to control the animal population and provide low-cost assistance to caregivers on “social support”.

🏡 **Next Stop: Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter**

After the clinic, we headed to the Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter. Shortly after our guests arrived, it started raining cats and dogs! We believe that rain symbolizes “showers of blessings” for everyone.

Despite the rain, our guests' spirits remained high. The cats enjoyed treats and ran around like little kids, while the dogs loved hosting our visitors.

Thank you to everyone who made this visit special. We hope to see you again soon!

MISSION HELP ’S ARK

A victim of a road traffic accident, Luna was rescued by a passer-by in a drain on 3 March 2024. An X-ray showed a fracture on T9 of her thoracic spine so we placed a back brace around her and started to treat her.

This sweet dog was very cooperative during treatment. Two weeks later, Luna was able to sit up using her forelimbs and could even urinate on her own. Unfortunately, she has lost the use of her hind limbs.

It has been 7 weeks and we decided to introduce a wheel chair made for dogs. Initially, she was reluctant to move but being food motivated, we were able to get her to take her first steps. She now rolls around the clinic and calls for help when she gets stuck. Last weekend, she even greeted visitors to the clinic.

We have a very rare happy ending for us at Mission Help. Luna has found her forever home! She will be leaving us shortly to live with her new family. This does not ever happen for a disabled dog at Mission Help and they invariably end up at our shelter. We are very glad she has found a home.

It is under Mission Help ’s Ark that Luna was able to be treated and given a second chance. If she had not been discovered, she would have died a slow lingering death in that drain.

This scheme offers subsidised fees to pet owners, stray caregivers and animal rescuers with low disposable income who would otherwise not seek treatment for their animals due to their financial situation.

It is with the generosity of the public that we can continue to help these animals and their caregivers. Many cases are received every week at the clinic. If you could defray the cost of some of these treatments, we would love to hear from you.

🌈 Remembering Oso 🌈

Oso, a golden retriever, found a loving home with Mei two years ago, where he shared his days with his buddy Benoit, a Pyrenean Mountain dog also adopted from Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter.

Oso was a beloved mascot during NANAS tour days and fondly remembered by our visitors. He adored swimming in the pond, indulging in mud spas, and relishing his favorite food and treats.

On 14 April, after his walkies, a hearty breakfast, Oso peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge during his morning nap. He died a happy boy with a contented tummy and at his favourite sleeping spot.

He will be deeply missed. Gratitude to Chee and Mei for showering Oso with love and providing him a joyful home, including memorable road trips with his family.

❤️ RIP Oso ❤️

Noah's Ark Spay & Neuter Programme 诺亚方舟动物节育醒觉活动专页

Even though mom cat is busy nursing her kittens, she can still get pregnant again just a few weeks after giving birth.

Unspayed female cats, who have litter after litter of kittens, become malnourished and become exhausted from the stress of protecting her kittens. They also have to deal with being harassed constantly by un-neutered male cats. 🥺

If you have a female cat that has just given birth, schedule a spay surgery for 6 weeks from her giving birth.

🚩If you feed community cats and truly care about their well-being and health, please make sure that you trap, neuter, and return (TNR).

Reach out to us for information in the Charlotte, NC area.

MISSION HELP ’S ARK
Hi! It’s Chance again.

This is me, out of my recovery cage. They say it’s time for my physiotherapy and I need to learn how to walk with my three legs. It was strange at first but they distracted me with food which was great! Before I knew it, I was walking around the clinic.

I am grateful to the people at the clinic for taking such good care of me. More importantly, I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to my surgery and treatment charges.

I will be moving to the shelter very soon as they have a lot more animals to help so I need to make space for them. This will be my last chance to ask for help. Only a handful of people have responded to my appeal for help to sponsor my stay at NANAS.

All I need is S$50 or RM150 per month to pay for my food so I don’t burden these nice folks with yet another mouth to feed.

I hope some of you might consider helping me out, any amount will be appreciated.
Thank you!
Lots of love,
Chance

Saturday 13 April 2024, a group of 21 youths wanted to do a different kind of excursion and they organised to visit our residents at Noah's Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS).

It has been awhile since we had visitors due to COVID in Y2020 and the dogs were so happy to welcome our guests with lots of licks.

The group raised funds by selling T-shirts designed by Yenni and S$400 was raised. Stay tune for the launch of the tee which will be on sale soon!

In addition, they donated to the shelter sundries eg kitchen towels, floor cleaning detergent, etc…

The highlight of their excursion was a visit to Noah's Ark Animal Birth Control Clinic and Raymund Wee, founder of NANAS shared its mission of the clinic and to meet Jaco followed by a visit at the sanctuary.

Shared by a visitor “Visiting Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter was an eye-opening experience. I loved seeing all the animals living happily and freely, being able to enjoy their lives in a safe space.

I learnt about the effort and commitment it takes to save or rehabilitate our street animals, and how we should not take this for granted.”

Thank you Nora, Janice and Valerie for organising the fund raiser and the trip for your friends.

MISSION HELP ’S ARK

Hi! My name is Chance. You may have seen my updates in the past week about my ordeal with a wild boar trap.

I was roaming in the undergrowth and was trapped for many days. Luckily, someone found me and I was brought to NANAS for treatment in the middle of the night.

Unfortunately, they could not save my leg but I am happy to be alive. They are taking good care of me after the surgery in their recovery clinic and I am grateful for their care as well as the food they feed me everyday.

Life of a stray dog can be very hard. We don’t know where our next meal is coming from and we are constantly being chased and abused by the public.

I have good news. They are allowing me to stay at the free roaming shelter. I can’t wait to get out of here. I am so happy for my second chance, hence my name.

Thank you for all your help to pay for my surgery and treatment. However, I still need your help to sponsor my stay at NANAS.

If you can help, here are the details. Any amount will be appreciated. Thank you!

Latest Update On Wild Boar Trap Dog

It has been 6 days days since surgery was performed on this dog. He is alert and recovering well in our intensive care unit where our vet has been looking after him.

He would have died a terrible death if he had not been rescued so we named him Chance because he has been given a second chance to live.

Due to the nature of his injuries, he will not be returned to the street. Chance has a sweet temperament and will be given permanent residency at the shelter under Mission Help ’s Ark.

We wish to thank everyone who contributed to his surgery and after care but we need further financial assistance for Chance to remain with us.

Mission Help ’s Ark exists to help animals like Chance but it is only with contributions from the public that we can continue to do so.

If you can help to sponsor his stay at the shelter where he will live out the rest of his life in comfort and security, we would very much appreciate your help.

Please give Chance a Second Chance.

MISSION HELP ’S ARK
Warning: Graphic Content
UPDATE ON WILD BOAR TRAP DOG - 3 April 2024

When we started to prepare the dog for surgery yesterday, we found so many maggots feasting on the open wound. Removal of the maggots was a long and tedious process. The appearance of the maggots suggests that the dog must have been trapped for at least 4 or 5 days. This poor dog must have suffered.

Unfortunately, the damage was too severe and the leg could not be saved. A scapulectomy was successfully performed which involved the removal of the shoulder blade. It was a difficult, bloody and messy procedure while having to remove more and more maggots all throughout the surgery. The dog is now in stable condition and recovering in our intensive care unit.

Thank you so much for those who have contributed so far. We appreciate your help to cover the cost of surgery, treatment and post operative recovery care for this dog.

It is with the generosity of the public that Mission Help ’s Ark can continue to help these unfortunate animals. If you can help, our transfer details are below.

WARNING: GRAHIC CONTENT

Another Dog Caught In A Wild Boar Snare Trap!

We received an emergency call late last night for a dog with injuries sustained in yet another wild boar snare trap. This time, the snare was wrapped around and cutting the flesh of the right upper front fore limb. The trap was supposed to catch a wild boar but stray animals do get caught unintentionally.

We are appealing for funds under Mission Help ’s Ark to pay for surgery, treatment and recovery costs.

The dog arrived at our clinic at 1.30 am and is due to undergo surgery this morning. We will post more details after the surgery.

If you can help these unfortunate animals, here are our transfer details and QR Codes for both Singapore and Malaysia. We will be grateful for any amount no matter how big or small.

Our Story

In 1995, Noah’s Ark Lodge Private Animal Shelter was set up in Singapore by Raymund Wee to give animals that have been abused, abandoned and made homeless, a second chance to live out the rest of their lives with dignity. When the lease expired in June 2000, the sanctuary, including all its inhabitants, was moved to Johor, Malaysia and Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter (NANAS) was established on a 10-acre site near Gelang Patah. The sanctuary is now home to 700 dogs, 300 cats, 6 horses and other rescued animals. Noah’s Ark CARES was registered in June 2005 to be the Singapore arm of NANAS and in addition to its activities in Singapore was also responsible for supporting shelter operations while NANAS could focus on the care of the animals at the sanctuary. PLEASE BE INFORMED THAT NANAS MALAYSIA SEPARATED FROM NA CARES ON 1 JULY 2016. THE TWO ENTITIES ARE NO LONGER AFFILIATED TO EACH OTHER. This is because NA CARES was granted charity status on 9 May 2016 and had to abide by the rules and regulations imposed by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth. FUNDS RAISED IN SINGAPORE COULD NO LONGER BE USED TO FUND SANCTUARY OPERATIONS IN MALAYSIA. A new entity, Noah’s Ark Natural Animal Shelter in Singapore was formed on 27 July 2016 to replace NA CARES to continue its mission to help animals in need, both in Singapore and Malaysia. The top priority is the welfare of the animals. Funds are much needed for daily shelter operations which include food for the animals, salary for workers, rental, diesel for generating electricity and all other expenses incurred in running the shelter. TOTAL COST IS S$35,000 PER MONTH OF WHICH A LARGE PORTION GOES TOWARDS FOOD.
