We’re officially now closed for maternity leave! 👶🏼

If you haven’t received your grooming notes or wish to request them to pass on to your next groomer please get in touch as soon as possible. From next week I plan to step back from the business and take some time out for me before baby arrives so communication will be much slower. ✂️

I’m still unsure on a return date so please wait to hear from me regarding future appointments and avoid messaging to query this - however I’d love to hear from you about how your dogs are doing! 🤗

Lastly, a massive thank you to everyone who has spoilt baby Farrow and myself, your kind words, cards and gifts are very much appreciated 🥰

I can’t wait to catch up with you all and see your dogs very soon! 🐾

With just two months left at work until my maternity leave begins the question cropping up a lot is understandably when will I be back and honestly, I can’t be 100% sure! 🥴

My advice to you is to prebook appointments elsewhere from June to December. Whilst I plan to be back sooner than this, it will be a phased return and fewer hours than I’m doing now and therefore I can’t have everyone back all at once. I do have an idea of when I hope to return but it’s not something I’m willing to share just yet as I wouldn’t want to let anyone down 👶🏼

Please also remember that the groomers who have taken you on as new clients, especially those who offered the very little spare time they have available should be very much appreciated. If you’d like your dog grooming notes please ask in advance and I’ll be happy to either write them down or send them to you or your new groomer by text 🤗

I hope you all know how much your kind words and support has meant to me over the last few months 🥰

❕CLOSED UNTIL MONDAY 16TH OCTOBER!❕

It’s finally time to hang up my scissors for a few weeks and enjoy our wedding celebrations! 💍

Thank you for all your kind words and well wishes over the last few weeks and to those who have had their appointment go off schedule slightly, having this time off to relax and enjoy being in our little wedding bubble is something I’m so grateful to be able to do! 🥹

I will still be replying to messages and calls where possible but please allow up to a week for a response. 📞

I am now fully booked for the remainder of the year with a cancellation list in place and not taking any new clients. If you need to rearrange your appointment please let me know sooner rather than later and I will do what I can to make changes. 🤯

Appointments for 2024 haven’t been forgotten and I will be taking booking requests soon! 📔

As your dog gets older it may be necessary to change their grooming routine to ensure the process is as comfortable for them as possible. Brandy now comes more regularly and also has a shorter haircut cutting her groom time by half an hour! Here are my top tips for grooming elderly dogs…👇🏻

💪🏻 Give your dog a short 5-10 minute walk before their appointment. Not only does this give them the opportunity to go to the toilet it will also warm up their muscles.

✂️ We recommend a shorter/less complex hairstyle so we can get them done quicker and therefore putting less strain on their body.

⏰ Attending appointments more frequently means they’ll be less hair to wash, dry and cut and therefore getting them done much quicker. It also keeps them in a routine especially those that are going blind or deaf as they can use their sense of smell to remember where they are.

🛁 A warm shower will help to relax the muscles, a bit like when we have a bath!

🧽 Massaging in the shampoo can increase blood flow to the muscles.

💊We may recommend speaking to your vet about pain relief if we’re worried grooming is becoming too strenuous.

🥶 It’s important you keep your dog warm after a groom especially in colder months as it can prevent them becoming stiff.

😴 Your dog will need to rest after their appointment, but don’t let them sleep the day away, encouraging them to move every so often will help prevent stiffness.

Puppy introductory sessions can be one of the biggest but most rewarding challenges of being a dog groomer! 🥰

Not only are you creating a new style on a puppy that has never had to sit still for more than two minutes let alone two hours, you’re teaching them how to behave whilst on the table to ensure the groom is carried out in a safe environment using positive reinforcement methods. 🌟

Gorgeous girl Brandy after her summer hand strip! 😎

Hand stripping a Norfolk Terrier involves manually removing the dead top coat using my finger and thumb leaving the soft undercoat behind. Hand stripping can be done regularly as part of a ‘rolling coat’ cycle or as a ‘blown coat’ and done every 6 months on average. 🤚🏻

Something a little not so dog grooming related, although I’m sure you’ll find it just as cute…

I’m sure most of you will have noticed by now that our guinea pig hutch is empty and that Audrey and Peanut have moved just a few meters away into their new, much larger home (AKA Fendt’s unused and now repurposed kennel…) and that we have also recently rehomed two new furry potatoes, Ivy and Olive, who have settled in great over the last few weeks! 😍

However, we very quickly noticed Ivy was piling on the grams and after a couple of vet trips and lots of patience, little Gus and Mabel were born on Sunday morning! 🥰

Please, please don’t let your dogs go up to them whilst they’re adjusting to the big wide world. I’m sure they’ll learn to love the dogs that come and go like the rest of them but for now we’re trying to keep it stress free for them all. 😇

*These little furry potatoes will be staying with us forever and ever and do not need homes. All of our existing guinea pigs are girls and Ivy was, much to our surprise, pregnant when she came to us*

Being a dog groomer isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ kind of job, you have to adapt a service to suit all kinds of situations and come up with new ways of working. 🤨

For Ziggy, this meant changing it up completely and swapping my grooming room for the vets. It wouldn’t be safe for myself or Ziggy to try and groom him without a little bit of sedation and it would be incredibly overstimulating for him to even try at this stage. Often groomers want to be the superhero and never admit what they believe to be defeat because they can’t groom a dog the conventional way. For now, this is Ziggy’s conventional! 🤪

Unfortunately Ziggy had an awful start in life but thanks to his wonderful owner he’s working through his troubles 🥰

11/05/2023

As dog owners most of us will have experienced the need for our beloved companion to undergo a general anaesthetic for one reason or another and know the ‘groggy doggy’ that wants to nap the evening away in peace. Operations like neutering or dental surgery are often (but not always) planned in advance and whilst healing time varies for every dog, complications such as infection can arise. 🐾

Let’s take a routine dog castration for example with an average recovery time of two weeks but oh no… Fluffy was due a haircut the day after he got the snip and you forgot that he can’t have a bath afterwards. Fluffy has had to wear a cone for a fortnight because he not happy about loosing his you know what’s, but Fluffy is a step ahead and spends all night licking his wound and lands himself an infection which adds more time onto his recovery. Fluffy is now 3 weeks overdue a haircut, definitely isn’t in the mood to be brushed and has started to get matts behind his ears from the cone, round his bottom from all the licking and his legs aren’t looking great either. Once Fluffy has recovered completely and his owners have managed to rebook his appointment he’s now gone twice as long as recommended and is super knotty and requires a short haircut. ✂️

Moral of Fluffy’s story? He should have got a mop chop before his routine op! 😆

Routine neutering is actually a relatively quick recovery time and some operations will require weeks or even months of rest meaning your dog would more than likely miss at least one appointment with the groomer. Your vet will also probably thank you for bringing your dog in clean and in good condition rather than being a muddy mess! 🛁

So remember, mop chops before routine ops!

Ps. Please don’t call your groomer five minutes before your dog undergoes life saving surgery, there are times when a haircut really doesn’t matter and it’s also worth remembering that if your dog does have an infection or is on antibiotics and the wound ‘can’t get wet’ that the groomer can absolutely not groom your dog as there is no guarantee we can keep a wound dry.
