The CoatHook Pet Comb Control shedding and prevent hairballs. Small hooks on long tines remove loose undercoat from cats and dogs without damage or cutting! www.TheCoatHook.com

The CoatHook is a proven, uniquely designed, and phenomenally effective pet comb. It removes shedding undercoat — Its patented MicroHooks reach through outer "guard coat" fur to gather and remove shedding undercoat fur without cutting or pulling healthy attached fur. It detangles matted fur — The detangling side of the CoatHook features a series of increasingly more aggressive patented MicroHooks

that incrementally untangle matted undercoat fur without tugging or hurting your pet. It works great on cats — The CoatHook de-mats tangles and combs out shedding undercoat on medium and long-haired cats. Flexible tines are gentle on sensitive or senior cats' pronounced spines, shoulders, and hips. It works great on dogs — On dogs who have a double coat, the CoatHook's patented MicroHooks reach through the outer "guard" coat to remove shedding downy undercoat without cutting the outer coat. It works great on rabbits — Yes, we've even tested the CoatHook on house rabbits, and it works extremely well.

CoatHook Pet Comb is Mouse Pad approved! Mouse is a wobbly kitty which makes daily tasks like eating and using the litterbox a bit messy. We love The CoatHook because the small hooks at the ends of the tines gently but very effectively gather and remove all the little bits and bobs that make their way into his fur. The main purpose of The CoatHook is to remove shedding undercoat fur from cats, dogs, and rabbits without pulling or cutting the outer layers of fur, the way some pet combs do. We can officially say - it does a fantastic job!

The best part is that the amazing folks behind The CoatHook, Lisa and Sheldon Perkins, are donating $5 to the SPCA-HC for every CoatHook sold!!!! Use the link below to purchase The CoatHook for your furry friends while also supporting our furry friends :) In December, our lovely community purchased 13 CoatHooks!

This pet comb gathers and removes shedding undercoat fur from cats, dogs, and rabbits without pulling or cutting the outer layers of fur, the way some pet combs do. The CoatHook’s long tines reach through the outer layer of fur, and the small hooks at the ends of the tines gently but very effectively gather and remove downy shedding undercoat fur. A series of graduated hooks along the top of the tines can be used to gently tease out tangled fur.

Thank you, Lisa & Sheldon Perkins!

😢

This is the side of rescuing that people don’t see, and just don’t realise how hard it is for us behind the scenes.
Strap in guys, while I explain.

This is Marcus.

His owner contacted me to ask me to rehome him, because….
‘He barks at other dogs and people when out so needs rehoming ’

Marcus is a 2 year old patterdale x Labrador.

He had been owned by said owner for… 5 weeks.

He’s just settling in, learning his new environment and family, and at only 2 years old he will be rather overwhelmed as well as adjusting to everything new.

Barking is how dogs communicate, and express their fears, and also excitement.

When I asked his owner what training she had been doing with Marcus to help him overcome his possible nervous behaviour, the answer was ‘he’s had none’

I explained I am full at the moment but I will let her know when I had room to fit him in.

2.5 hours later I receive a call from a vet practice.

Marcus had been taken to the vets to be EUTHANISED.

Put to sleep.
To end his life, because his owner could not be bothered to put any time or training into him.

THANKFULLY, the vets refused and called us.
They spoke to their behaviourist while they were there, and offered the owner sessions to help Marcus- the owner declined.

Killing him was the easy way to end her problem.

So, of course, with fear the owner would then just go to another vet and put him to sleep- I made room.
I don’t have room, but I’m not having it.

Marcus has been with us less than half an hour.
He has sat, taken a treat very gently.
Has met 6 dogs- enjoyed a sniff and his tail hasn’t stopped wagging

He hasn’t barked yet.

Too many people are getting pets without any consideration to the time they need to adjust, and expecting them to be ‘perfect companions’ without actually putting anything into them.

Take some responsibility and invest the time into them, you chose them to be part of your family. Stop destroying them just because you cannot be bothered to help them.
It’s not their fault.

You are safe Marcus, and loved.
You will never be treated so badly again, and that I can promise.

Local friends, it's another drizzly day here in Southern Maine — consider cheering yourself up by cuddling some kitties at HART, where we tested all of our CoatHook prototypes years ago.

HART is open for adoptions from 11am to 4pm on Saturdays, and we are excited to connect the right person with the right cat! The first step in the adoption process is to visit us online and complete an adoption application before visiting the shelter. Once you are approved you are ready to adopt! All HART cats are spayed or neutered and are indoor cats. Have more questions? Our website is a great resource for information on adopting, HART’s mission, and our cats: www.hartofme.org/adoption-information. Happy adoptions!

Cat lovers and rescue volunteers, check out this EXCELLENT Community Cats Podcast episode on the progressive practices of Return-to-Field & Targeting.

The fascinating discussion is with deeply knowledgeable Bryan Kortis, National Programs Director, and Susan Richmond, Executive Director, of Neighborhood Cats, who explain what return-to-field and targeting are and how they save lives and reduce the number of cats living on the streets.

Listen to the podcast or — even better — view it on YouTube as a webinar with very helpful visuals.

Bryan explores what return-to-field and targeting are and how we use them to save lives and reduce the number of cats living on our streets.

New England friends — please consider fostering! It's such a great way to rescue... without a long-term commitment.

• Travel a lot? Foster between trips.

• Not sure if you're ready to adopt? Foster to find out.

• Not sure if an adoptable dog is a good match for you? Foster to "test drive" the match.

• Can't afford veterinary and food costs? Share your roof with a dog in need while a rescue organization covers the cost (just ask; most will);

• Worried you'll fall in love and be sad to say goodbye? Go into fostering the way you go into having human house guests... expecting that it's temporary.

• Still worried you'll fall in love... Ask for first refusal to adopt (most rescues will give you that) — or take joy in seeing the dog find their perfect forever home.

• STILL worried you'll fall in love and be sad to say goodby? Foster another dog in need — and fall in love again!

Go on, foster a dog…Dogs are more comfortable in a home than in kennels. In a home you can build up their confidence and get them accustomed to a normal life and give them a history.

🐾 Please consider joining our foster community. We currently have a great need for fosters in VT, CT & ME. Link to foster application in the comments 🐾

Oh, my... It's a good thing these super cuties are in Nevada and not Maine, or I'd be so tempted to scoop at least one, if not all of them, up.

Might you be in that neck of the woods and ready to adopt?

If not, it's helpful to share, like, and comment on this post to make it more visible to any of your friends who might be near Reno.
