Holly’s dad here. Holly was rushed to the emergency clinic this morning thinking she had a very bad upset stomach or an upset GI tract. Through tests it was discovered that her bladder had ruptured. The vet said she had little to no chance of surviving surgery and in the unlikely event that she did survive surgery and recovery, her quality of life would not be the same. She went downhill quickly while at the clinic and the humane decision was made. Holly died shortly before noon.
She is leaving behind a huge void. The last 9 years with her have been an amazing adventure and I would do it all over again. She was a spunky, outgoing little girl. She brought humor and laughter to the house every day. She never let her paralysis slow her down. She loved playing fetch, she worked very hard at being the center of attention, and she protected the house when the evil UPS guy showed up. She also had an uncanny ability of communicating her needs just by staring. Whether she needed to drink water, roll over, or have her chin scratched, she was able to let me know exactly what she needed. Her unique personality will live on in memories for a very long time.
Thank you to everyone at Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Bellingham, especially the internal medicine specialist she had been seeing since January, Dr. Claire Johnston. Holly had assembled a team of doctors in the past few weeks (new primary care, internal medicine, and dermatologist) to help her recover from all the side effects of the medications needed to deal with ITP she had suffered with since 2021. She only recently was cleared of any bleeding problems and was well on her way to living her typical quality of life.
R.I.P. my sweet baby girl. I will miss you more than words could ever say.
