This South Dakota mountain lion skull will be used for educational purposes along with its tanned pelt. They will be part of a Game, Fish, and Parks critter crate where they will be seen and handled by youth to learn about their anatomy and physiology. The crates used by GFP have numerous South Dakota critters including skulls, furs, pelts, and antlers. The lion skull and pelt will be a great addition to the crate.

All of the elk from September and October are coming along nicely! There are a pile of paddlefish that will be finished up in December. I have been getting a lot of phone calls about them. They are almost done and phone calls or texts will be coming soon on the paddlefish. A handful from Aug. - Oct. are still in process though.

Diana and I finished our rifle seasons with a nice doe tonight in a cut corn field! Deer meat will be plentiful for the next year! Good luck to all the hunters still trying to fill a tag!

Remember that the definition of a "trophy" is in the eye of the beholder. It could be a first doe, a spike, or a basket 4x4. It could be a high scoring buck like this one. All deer deserve the equal respect to be skull mounted if they are a trophy to you and you are proud of it. Don't let the score of a deer stop you from harvesting what your definition of a "trophy" is. With that being said, this is the largest buck to come in so far this season. It took many years for this hunter to shoot her largest buck to date. Congratulations on a great buck!

Deer heads and bison heads have been flowing into the shop at a steady rate! Prepping heads for beetles and maceration is the name of the game for the next several weeks.

This Alligator gar skull is 21" from nose to back of head. A large specimen with lots of teeth!

American woodcock from Michigan's upper peninsula. I've finished several different bird skulls and this one adds to the list as a 1st. These skulls were stripped clean in less than 10 hrs by the beetles. A couple months of soaking and degreasing and they will be perfectly white skulls!

Ever wonder what 12,000 beetles and their larvae look like? Now you know. Fun fact: 12K beetles can clean a deer skull in several days if placed in a small enclosure.

Finished up these 3 gobblers early this morning. This is a fantastic way to display a Tom!

On the bright side though, finished 5 bison this last weekend and 4 steer heads are nearing the finish line as well.

Moments like this I still think about that trivia question I got wrong at the Smoking Mule one night. I should have known. Lol. "How many teeth does a coyote have?" It's 42 teeth.
