What Do Cats Think About All Day?

Cats are often seen as aloof and mysterious, partly because it’s hard to tell what they’re contemplating. They aren’t as expressive as dogs, and they lack the communication skills of parrots. To this point, few ... Read more

Please help feed the kitties. I'm a disabled veteran on a fixed income and take care of 15 barn cats. Some of them came from Wartrace before I had to move the colony. Others were rescues from other colonies that shut down. They are now at a horse ranch near Shelbyville, where the owner has graciously allowed me to use a barn for shelter. I spend my own money to travel there and provide housing for them, but really need help in buying cat food for them, especially dry food. Please consider donating and sharing. I have a wish list on Amazon or you can donate through Paypal and I will purchase the food locally since Amazon is often out of stock. I thank you and the kitties thank you. https://www.amazon.com/.../CSVJP.../ref=nav_wishlist_lists_3 https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/Helpthebarncats...

Norman is 8 years old, our oldest rescue cat and the sweetest cat you could ever ask for. He was diagnosed with diabetes on Thursday. He used to weigh 13 pounds, stout, but not fat. Over the past several months, he appeared to be losing weight so we kept a watch on him. I took him to the Vet on Thursday and found out he has diabetes. His blood work said he was making red blood cells, but his count was very low. His blood sugar was very high at 400 and he had lost 4 pounds. He was prescribed a Lantus insulin pen which I picked up on Friday. I got it at Walgreens for $35 after a GoodRx coupon. It's a 300 unit pen. He starts out at 1 unit twice a day and if he doesn't need a change, the pen will last 150 days. I gave him his 1st injection Friday evening. He cannot have dry food as it contains a lot of carbs. He now get wet pate food only (non gravy type). It is very low in carbs. The Vet wanted him to only eat twice a day when he gets his injections, but every support group I joined said that was nonsence. He needs, as human diabetics do, to have several small meals during the day to keep his blood sugar from crashing. I will also be getting him a blood glucose meter to measure his glucose levels.

START GIVING A SH🐾T

This is Princess.

This is her “home” she shares with 5-6 others until the city tears this abandoned house down.

Neighbors used to talk about how beautiful and fluffy she was but no one acknowledges her now unless they’re complaining about us feeding.
We give her flea treatment to help with her flea allergy but summer takes a toll on her...so has years on the street.

She had 3 litters before she was 2yrs old. Random people took her kittens but always left her. When we found her she just had her 3rd litter that also disappeared before they were 6 weeks old. No one can take her babies anymore because she’s spayed.

She’s approx 5-7yrs old now.

Princess was once a kitten herself. So was every homeless cat you see.

‼️DO NOT contact us to help you with kittens if your goal is to forget Mom or any other adults. We get so many tags and messages asking to help kittens while nothing is said about the adults in the situation. Whether it’s being on the street or left behind after an eviction...You don’t think they deserve a home too? ‘Don’t let the kittens go to the shelter’ or ‘I hate seeing kittens outside’ but apparently it’s okay for the adults forced to live that way.

If there’s a feral mom and you take the kittens without bothering to spay Mom and make sure someone is feeding her-that’s not rescue. That’s just an easy adoption or kitten flipping.

When you jump to help someone that needs you to take a litter of kittens without asking where the mom is or if she’s spayed, you just became part of the problem.

When you give away kittens to just anyone, there’s a 50/50 chance that they will end up just like Princess.

We see these faces everyday and even though so many are adoptable they will never get their chance to experience a home or warm bed because no one cared about them. If you want to help, start giving a s**t about them. They deserve it.

DON'T FORGET ME

It seems so sad to me that people don't want to adopt older cats. Sometimes older cats are the purrfect choice. If you know someone who is thinking about getting a cat, please encourage them to adopt an older furbaby and 'share' this image with them
