The first course of puppy classes for 2022 is coming up 🐶🧡 Starting 20 January in Daylesford, classes are kept small and interactive and give puppies (and their humans!) an opportunity to socialise and learn new skills in a safe setting with an accredited trainer. There are just a few spots left and full details are here: www.alldogsaregood.com/puppyclasses
Little and big learning to get along during puppy class 🧡 Despite the size difference these two have become firm friends. It's wonderful for puppies to learn to navigate different social encounters. Safety is important - it's the job of the humans to monitor when things become too much and keep an eye on those big clobber paws. Taking regular breaks and switching to calm activities like treat searches helps these young friends to regulate their excitement. Aren't they gorgeous?
One spot left! The next round of puppy classes start next Wednesday at 6pm in Daylesford. Over four weeks we'll explore ways to create happy and well adjusted canine companions while building on practical skills you can use for life 🧡🐶 Find out more here ➡️ https://www.alldogsaregood.com/puppyclasses

There's one place left for the next puppy course starting Thursday 30 September in Daylesford. I can't wait to get to know a new bunch of humans and puppies as we navigate the essential puppy stage over 5 weeks. The first week is online and brimming with essential theory and the remaining in person weeks will involve building skills and gaining a better understanding of what puppies are communicating - to each other and to us. Someone asked me recently when their puppy would no longer need regular items to chew. The answer? Never! Adult dogs also need solid chewing time - this is natural canine behaviour which helps to maintain healthy teeth and gums, relieve boredom and reduce stress and anxiety. Toys rarely cut it. Natural animal based products which dogs can really spend time on are best. If you find it gross, your dog probably loves it 😉. Does your dog have a go-to favourite?
Dogs give us opportunities to connect with nature and remind us that we're part of it 🧡
Loose lead walking can be a frustrating thing to teach, especially with young teenage dogs. I think it's why many people resort to harsh equipment when they feel they aren't getting anywhere. With perseverance, patience and by setting the dog up for success, it can be done, no yanking, choking or anti-pull devices required 🐕🦺
Pulling also gives you information about a dog's emotional state. Zelda only starts pulling when she becomes overstimulated by everything around her. Rather than this being 'bad' behaviour that needs correcting, I consider it a useful prompt to go right back to basics - finding calm and quiet areas to just slow things down and let her relax 🌳
As a herding dog she is very sensitive to small changes in the environment (very handy when rounding up sheep) so adding too much pressure can stress her out. You can see here she is carefully processing and I am working hard to keep my mouth shut! 🤫
I'm very excited to be running puppy classes in Daylesford at a gorgeous new venue! Thoughtfully planned puppy classes can be a great opportunity for youngsters. Having run classes for several years in London, Melbourne and now regional Victoria, my focus is on puppies and their humans having positive experiences, lots of fun and learning useful life skills. Bookings are now open - classes starting 5 August.
