Roxy’s Story

Roxy was born in October 2014. She weighed 800 grams the day we got her. Such a small and beautiful baby. She grew up fast and as all small puppy’s she was full of mischief.

In August 2016 just before her 2nd Birthday, we took Roxy to the vet for a check up. We woke up the morning and Roxy’s eyes went blind like a blue colour in her eyes. The doctor took some blood sample’s and diagnosed Roxy with Diabetes. We were totally thrown at the idea that dog’s could also get Diabetes. Roxy’s eye sight got worse because of the cataracts that was growing in her eyes, and we took Roxy for Cataract removal surgery. After surgery Roxy gained back her eye sight and could play with her ball again.

We started treating Roxy with insulin twice a day and the Hills prescription food for Diabetic dogs and thing went perfectly. Roxy started loosing hair on her back and tail and we went back to the doctor. She then got diagnosed with an under active Thyroid. We started giving her medication now for the Thyroid and the Diabetes. And for next couple of years every thing was under control.

During this time we could not find any treats that are suitable for dogs that has diabetes. So we started making our own doggy treats. It became quite a hit among the dogs and we started making more doggy treats and selling the doggy treats at Durbanville Craft Market. We also decided because of Roxy’s condition, that we wanted to make people aware of Diabetes in animals.
