Our crazy teenager Rush is hitting social maturity! MeiMei decided 5mins before this video that she was tired of being shoulder checked into oblivion so she told off her very own spoiled baby (finally!) and here is the result!

- He asked politely to play and waits for her to say yes
- He swerves to avoid Petey even in the chaos of mid chase
- He forgets himself and sends her for another somersault and she puts him in a time out
- He accepts with no fussing
- MeiMei is very proud of herself ♥️♥️♥️

1 year ago we spent most of the 4th and New Years throwing chicken for the dogs during fireworks…this year we reap the rewards of consistent sound acclimation…the 3 dogs we raised as puppies are immune and the two that came with a fear of thunder and fireworks are snoozing while the world around us celebrates ♥️

“🤣 why are they wearing goggles?!?!” We get that a lot! My normal answer is that I run, hunt, and cycle with sunglasses for UV and debris protection so why shouldn’t they?

But here is a real life example…Rush’s eyes (protected by Rex Specs) are clear and bright after over two hours of charging through brush and briars after game…compared to his ears 😬 that required lotion and antibacterial spray from the very same hunt

What does too much pressure look like? Here Rush has to pick between retrieving the bird like I asked or eating the ham that’s in the open bowl on the ground.

The stress of that choice is causing him to leak noise. He also side eyes the bowl and swings wide on his return telling me he’s still focused on the distraction instead of his job.

If I keep up with this and try to push through he may associate the stress that he’s feeling with the act of retrieving birds in general. To fix that we will back off the distraction pressure with kibble in the bowl instead of ham until I get the confident, happy attitude I’m looking for.
