Good Morning Folks!
Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! It is looking to be another beautiful, sunny day here in St. John's.
For those of you who might be off of work today, I'd like you to take a moment to meet our Junior that will be representing the province at the National in British Columbia. Alyssa Butt (better known as Ally) earned herself the spot to represent NL at the regional competition back in April.
Ally is a bright 17 year old girl, who has been a lover of dogs her entire life. I have had the privilege of watching her grow from the sidelines. Yes, she grew taller in height, but she also grew tremendously in the sport of Junior Handling. I remember meeting Ally when she was around 10 years old. She was a quiet, young girl, who barely spoke. Through the sport of Junior Handling, her confidence started to grow. Now at the age of 17, she is a mature, intelligent, confident woman who walks into the ring with great poise. Over the course of the past couple of years, Ally has been instructioning Junior Handling classes. In addition to teaching, she is active in her community. There isn't much this young lady can't do.
In September, she will be moving to PEI to commence her post secondary career. Ally was accepted into the pre-veterinary program at UPEI. She hopes to one day pursue a career in both small and large animal veterinary medicine. She adores all animals and hopes to be able to heal many through her work.
Before she heads off into the world of endless hours of studying, she will be traveling out west. As I know everyone can appreciate, traveling and staying in BC will be quite costly. Through the assistance of the Junior Zone Rep (Pamela Skanes), they have been working hard to fundraise the monies required. I know many of you have been supporting the various fundraisers over the past year and that support is truly appreciated. If you never got the chance to take part, you can still send along an e-transfer to help offset the cost. If you would like to make a donation, then simply reach out to either myself, Pamela Skanes or Ally's mom: Crystal Lyons.
Oh, I should add that Ally and her mother were not aware that I was making this post :) . Hence, I had to be a ninja and go in and steal a few pictures from her Facebook. Let's hope I picked a couple of good ones
Please join me in wishing Ally the best of luck at Nationals. The winner of Nationals will travel to Crufts. I already told her mother that if Ally goes to Crufts, then I'm tagging along. Lol
Thanks for reading!
And Happy Regetta Day to All.
