My girl! Fina Bean did a fabulous job sniffing out all the things today in Huntsville, AL. 💜 I am super pleased that we came home with her NACSW Level 1 Containers title. In the afternoon trial she took over Tavi’s spot in interiors with style, snagging her Level 1 Interior title too! As a little bonus, she also located several bugs she found equal parts fascinating and delicious. 🤣

We’re looking forward to another fun day of sniffs tomorrow!

As summers continue to get warmer year-over-year, new research from the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (PVWDC) reveals the best way to prevent dogs from overheating.

After comparing various cooling methods, researchers found when a dog voluntarily submerged their head in clean, room-temperature water to retrieve a treat or toy, they not only cooled off faster, but also avoided dangerous post-exercise temperature spikes.

“During heat stress, blood flow to the head, nose, tongue, and ears is increased,” said Cynthia M. Otto, VMD, PhD, lead author of the study and executive director of the PVWDC. “Cooling the tissues of the head allows for rapid cooling of the whole body with limited amounts of water.”

I’ve been a total slacker about posting, but today we did a thing! It was a great morning to play sniffy rat games! Team Pointy Spots came out for their first NASDA trial in Tucker, GA and had the most wonderful time hunting critters. 🐀 Each dog ran in all three Urban Locating trials, bringing home:

🎉 Tavi: Qs in all three trials, High in Trial x2, Best of Breed x2, and a New Urban Locating Lv1 Title!

⭐️ Fina: Qs in all three trials, the third High in Trial, and the third Best of Breed! She was only 6 points shy of her title, too.

I’m super proud of these kids and how well they did in the outdoor search areas! Huge shoutout to my wonderful friend Sonia for pestering me for the past year to get my butt in gear and come, AND for coming today to cheer us on!

As always, it was absolutely fantastic to see so many friends and familiar faces, and to spend the morning catching up with everyone. Hats off to CCA for hosting, Wow-In Sync/Mister Miggs for being such a great venue, to our judge and volunteers for making the day happen, to my lovely friend Katie with Beau & Arrow Images for spending her day off taking photos for all of us, and to my other half for coming along for the ride! 💕
