Dear past clients, friends and colleagues

Officially hanging up my rasp this week as a hoof care provider in order to devote more time to our growing cattle business and my little horse breaking venture at home.

I have spent 8 wonderful years doing something I have been passionate for, but also that takes a physical and emotional toll especially after 3 la Nina Summers.

I am so excited about the newcomers in the trimming and farrier community and know that hoof care in the Northern Rivers is in great hands. I can pass on contact details for those who are looking.

If I have any parting thoughts, it is to remember the value of collaboration between professionals, even if the approach is sometimes different. Too much knowledge is wasted simply because egos and business models restrict sharing of information skills and experience.

Thanks for a great occupation and for the many friends I have made over the years.

And that's a wrap on hoof care for 2022.

I would like to thank and give best wishes to clients, friends and colleagues for Christmas and the New Year. Hope you get a rest, and recharge for hopefully an easier and prosperous and most of all, healthful and happy 2023.

Even though I'm doing fewer hooves than I've done since I started in 2015, I feel like it's important to warn folks that now is the time that damage can occur in equine feet that will carry on and present issues throughout the year.

With warm weather at night and still saturated soils, the nasty dichotomy of green grass flushes and wet soils combine to create havoc in horses hooves.

Don't leave it till it's too late to provide regular hoofcare, and restrict, if possible, too much green grass for at risk equines (including donkeys).

Keeping feet dry for even a few hours a day and tightening your trim cycle, can be the difference between sore, infected feet and a sound horse. Especially with the predicted La Nina forming and the compromised state in many hooves from the previous ones.
