Last night I’m watching hockey and something whacks my front door. Living where I do I figured it was a dillo or something and kept watching tv. A few minutes later it happened again. The third time I got up to see what it was.

Well, the cicadas are here. The first one I’ve seen. I’d of taken a picture to show here, but as soon as I recognized what it was, someone’s yellow lab bent down and scooped it into her mouth and took off.

A few days ago I ordered some pup ice cream, and it came minus 2 of the ice cream cups. No biggie, called Amazon who sent a remittance and I had to re-order. Tuesday I get 3 emails from FedEx saying I have deliveries on the way, and today, 3 boxes with 8 pup ice creams arrived.

The girls will be enjoying the next few weeks 😂. There a few more not even shown on the table. Poor unloved puppers!

There’s an old saying that “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of fight in the dog”.

I got off work tonight, fed the girls, and warmed up some chicken for myself, then I put the girls out. I’m watching the news and I hear “the” bark. Every bark has a meaning, and this one meant someone or something was in the yard.

I head out, expecting a lab, pit bull, something huge, and start wondering in the back of my mind if it’s one of the normal visitors. I go out back and see Katy, back by the pool door, barking her head off, and then I turn the corner and see, a ferocious big fang bared….Yorkie. A YORKIE?

2 guys were trying to catch said Yorkie and “Gus” didn’t seem very inclined to cooperate. So, when they got close, Gus took off towards…..Katy. I’m glad I left the slider from the back patio into the kitchen open because at the speed Katy was hauling ass from … Gus…, if that door had been closed she’d of busted her head trying to go through it.

Gus eventually took off down the road, seemingly happily enjoying himself checking out the neighborhood with two adult men chasing after him.

And Katy, well, she needs a nap I think. It was a rough evening.

All seems well. She went out on her own last night, even started to chase something then wisely stopped, did her normal duties then wanted her bedtime treat.

This morning she was ready to go out, had breakfast, was back out and then back waiting at the table for her cookie.

So, hoping it was just some aberration.

What a 24 hours. Yesterday about 12-1 Cinders and Katy were in the office with me, and I let them in the house. Near 5 I went inside to feed them, and she didn’t come to eat. Somewhat odd for a dog, alarmingly so for Cinders.

When she did walk in to eat her gait was a bit off - I assumed her leg was asleep. I let her out, and she looked lost or confused.

She wouldn’t drink water, but was more than happy with beef broth and/or pedialyte, though I had to bring it to her. She was wobbly all night, and acted “surprised” once when I laid down next to her. With all the grunting I made getting down…well..anyways.

I stayed up with her till about 4:30, checked on her a few times till 8:30, then off to the vet. Once there she pooped twice, lots of sniffing, but wasn’t real keen on the way back to the observation room.

Blood panel was perfect - perfect enough he said it was rare for a dog of her age. (Look up MLK day 2014). He looked her eyes, ears, chest and belly over - her temp was a bit elevated last night but was normal too. He thinks it’s just old age kicking in, but I find that quick a behavior change odd for that.

Back home, she’s been sleeping, but did come up eat dinner then went out to do her business, and seemed interested in kinda walking around, sniffing…which is good.

That’s where we stand as of now.

Oh, and little sister has a sudden interest in broth and pedialyte too. One gets, so MUST the other 🙂

I held a protest today because Dad mowed and made my big sister and I stay outside. So, I dug a big hole where Dad couldn’t find me until it was too late, and I laid in it until I was almost as Black as Cinders.

All was going to plan! There wasn’t a thing Dad could do about it. The plan fell apart disastrously when he drug me into the shower though.

(Interestingly, Cinders - despite not having a bath decided SHE needed toweling off too, and Katy refused to let me dry her until I “dried” Cinders)
