Boxer Rescue South Africa NPO Registration Number 173-975 NPO. NPC Registration Number 2016/299648/08. E-mail [email protected]. Email [email protected].

Legal Status: NPC Registration Number 2016/299648/08 OUR MISSION:
To assist Boxer dogs in crisis through responsible rehoming as well as education of the Boxer community about the breed’s physical and mental requirements, the importance of appropriate social and behavioural training, timeous sterilization, vaccination and microchipping. OUR VISION: Every Boxer dog will be viewed as a feeling, sen

tient being, a canine companion for a human who is fully aware of the breed’s physical and emotional needs. To see a South Africa where every Boxer dog that is unregistered with either the Kennel Union of South Africa (KUSA) or the Federation of Boxer Clubs of South Africa (FBCSA) is sterilized by 6 months. In addition, sterilisation should apply to those registered Boxers carrying genes for inheritable conditions such as congenital heart disease, hip and elbow dysplasia and juvenile kidney disease. Do not support backyard breeding (unregistered, no papers shown, unchecked rampant breeding with no thought for the health consequences - backyard breeders won't health screen both parents, for example hips, not least). Boxer Rescue South Africa does not get involved in any "helping to SELL" scenario. We have a strict protocol of home checks and home screening, as do all reputable rescue and animal rehoming organisations worldwide. These protocols are in place to protect the animals whose rehoming has been entrusted to us. The process involves an application to adopt which, if passed, is then followed by a comprehensive home check by a Boxer Rescue South Africa representative. We do not charge for this service, we simply insist as part of the adoption process that animals adopted through us are sterilised, microchipped and kept up to date on their vaccinations and deworming. Should the dog(s) you wish to adopt require any of these mandatory procedures, it will be for your account. This is also in keeping with globally accepted rehoming protocols and is done to protect the animals and ensure their continued wellbeing. We do not allow racial or hate-based comments. We will delete such posts and therefore urge all to voice opinions in a manner which is not based on race or ethnicity or any other grouping. Animal cruelty occurs across the board and is not exclusive to race, ethnicity, gender, age or income. Please respect the ethics of this Page and do not target all people based upon the aforementioned. There are even forms of animal cruelty which are unfortunately legally sanctioned in some Western countries (e.g. rodeos, bull fighting, throwing goats out of towers, burning bulls alive). This space is to provide Boxer lovers with useful information and notifications (not only about Boxer dogs in crisis up for rehoming or lost/found). Treatment and diagnostics are for your behaviourist's or vet's office - we only advocate COAPE and www.animal-behaviour.org.za Animal Behaviour Consultants of South Africa POSITIVE reinforcement

❣️❤️ We have an unusual request for rescue but believe that there may be a loving, responsible family out there who could step in to help out. We have an 8 month old female Boxer who has come into our care for rehoming. When she was taken to the vet for sterilization it was found that she has a heart murmur & they did not want to operate. We are hoping the heart may improve in a few months & she will be able to have the op. Meanwhile - she has come into season & it is not possible to stay where she is. We are looking for a safe home with loving people who are home quite a lot who would be willing to foster her during this time. She would be ok with another female dog or a sterilized male dog. It’s a big ask - but asking in hope. All food etc would be provided. Gauteng area. ❣️❤️

7 year old Max has been adopted by Elritha & Werner in Strand, W Cape. They recently lost their beloved Boxer girl Sussie & although it seemed to be so soon, they agreed to foster Max at his time of need. “Confirmation of a foster fail was given by Max at 4h45 this morning. We will be honored to be his forever parents and promise to always look after him to the best of our ability🐾”. Thank you to Elritha & Werner for opening their heart & home to Max & we are sure Sussie approves. “He is doing very well. We really enjoy seeing his personality coming out. He is a real love bug - always ready for a cuddle🤩”
Thank you to Jacquie for co-ordinating the placement & to AWS Stellenbosch for doing the neuter & vacs. Go well Max.

From Gauteng (Lenasia) to Kloof KZN - welcome to the family Lexi (3 Sept 24)- aged 6 years. 💕 After the sad loss of Mia, Ian was keen to adopt another rescue Boxer. “Alfie needs a friend & there’s a gap in our home. “ Well, when there are logistics we solve them by driving up to fetch the dog in need of a new home. Not all heroes wear capes but some, like Ian are willing to drive to Jhb, stay overnight, meet & fetch the dog needing a new home, sleep with her in the B & B & then back to Kloof, KZN the next day. Lexi had also lost her fur sibling to old age & as her family were unable to keep her, we thought she’d be a great match for Alfie & Ian. Although she & Alfie gelled quite quickly she has taken a while to adapt to new situations - other people, walks etc but thanks to Ian & his patience & loving care, she is improving daily. Thank you for adopting a middle aged girl.

‼️WARNING - BE AWARE‼️

Just reposting this again as it’s super important for those that walk their dogs on grass that hasn’t been cut that have grass seeds / foxtails.
“Be vigilant around foxtails / grass seed, and avoid them all together if you can.

Foxtails are the barbed seed heads of wild grasses (the foxtail- shaped tip of the grass blade containing the seeds). Foxtails have razor-sharp needles that are extremely dangerous to our fur kids. Nature designed them to move in one direction—burrowing relentlessly forward.

Foxtails easily attach themselves to adventurous and curious dogs, digging deeper and deeper inside with each movement. Foxtails love paws and can easily become embedded (and hidden) between toes. They can work their way into ANY part of the body, from the nose to the ears, eyes, and mouth.

Foxtails that go up the nose can migrate to the brain. Inhaled foxtails can puncture a lung. Foxtails that go unnoticed can require surgery to be removed. Embedded foxtails can cause discharge, abscesses, swelling, pain, and death.

SAFETY TIPS: Stay away from areas with foxtails and make sure you remove them from your garden. If your pet has mingled with foxtails, make sure to do a thorough inspection afterward: Brush coat, feel every part of the body with your hands, and look closely at ears, nose, eyes, underbelly, between toe pads, underneath collars and don't forget those private areas! Also check inside mouth and around lips. Any pet can get assaulted by foxtails, but animals with long fur, long ears, and curly fur can be especially prone to foxtail problems.

BE AWARE OF THESE FOXTAIL SYMPTOMS: Continuous sneezing, pawing at and licking an infected area, violent shaking of head, frequently tilting head to the side, scratching at an ear incessantly, sores or abscesses, swelling, discharge, coughing, and limping.
Foxtail Facts you should know:
Foxtails tends to grow in grassland areas & are common along roadsides and trails.

They break off easily into tiny segments. Each segment is loaded with infinite tiny barbs that dig into hair/skin and float their way into openings.

Once attached to your pet foxtails can disappear into the body QUICKLY, so checking them over immediately is key.

If foxtails get deep into the nasal passages, they can continue to travel into the brain and cause seizures or death.

Once a foxtails is inside your pet, they continue to burrow inward. If not found and removed quickly, they can literally disappear, because they won’t show up on an x-ray. Foxtails cannot be absorbed by the body, nor can they be broken down or digested"
