Boxer Rescue South Africa NPO Registration Number 173-975 NPO. NPC Registration Number 2016/299648/08. E-mail [email protected]. Email [email protected].

Legal Status: NPC Registration Number 2016/299648/08 OUR MISSION:
To assist Boxer dogs in crisis through responsible rehoming as well as education of the Boxer community about the breed’s physical and mental requirements, the importance of appropriate social and behavioural training, timeous sterilization, vaccination and microchipping. OUR VISION: Every Boxer dog will be viewed as a feeling, sen

tient being, a canine companion for a human who is fully aware of the breed’s physical and emotional needs. To see a South Africa where every Boxer dog that is unregistered with either the Kennel Union of South Africa (KUSA) or the Federation of Boxer Clubs of South Africa (FBCSA) is sterilized by 6 months. In addition, sterilisation should apply to those registered Boxers carrying genes for inheritable conditions such as congenital heart disease, hip and elbow dysplasia and juvenile kidney disease. Do not support backyard breeding (unregistered, no papers shown, unchecked rampant breeding with no thought for the health consequences - backyard breeders won't health screen both parents, for example hips, not least). Boxer Rescue South Africa does not get involved in any "helping to SELL" scenario. We have a strict protocol of home checks and home screening, as do all reputable rescue and animal rehoming organisations worldwide. These protocols are in place to protect the animals whose rehoming has been entrusted to us. The process involves an application to adopt which, if passed, is then followed by a comprehensive home check by a Boxer Rescue South Africa representative. We do not charge for this service, we simply insist as part of the adoption process that animals adopted through us are sterilised, microchipped and kept up to date on their vaccinations and deworming. Should the dog(s) you wish to adopt require any of these mandatory procedures, it will be for your account. This is also in keeping with globally accepted rehoming protocols and is done to protect the animals and ensure their continued wellbeing. We do not allow racial or hate-based comments. We will delete such posts and therefore urge all to voice opinions in a manner which is not based on race or ethnicity or any other grouping. Animal cruelty occurs across the board and is not exclusive to race, ethnicity, gender, age or income. Please respect the ethics of this Page and do not target all people based upon the aforementioned. There are even forms of animal cruelty which are unfortunately legally sanctioned in some Western countries (e.g. rodeos, bull fighting, throwing goats out of towers, burning bulls alive). This space is to provide Boxer lovers with useful information and notifications (not only about Boxer dogs in crisis up for rehoming or lost/found). Treatment and diagnostics are for your behaviourist's or vet's office - we only advocate COAPE and www.animal-behaviour.org.za Animal Behaviour Consultants of South Africa POSITIVE reinforcement

We have had our girl Freya for close on 2 and half months and I think it's fair to say that she is completely confident and at home here with us. She's a very cute little character who regularly likes to check in with her people and Ragnar is also very happy with her. It's so lovely to see them playing and interacting. 🩷🩷😍😍

Lexi in Kloof - nearly 5 months in her new home with Dad Ian & Alfie
“Her coat is in stunning condition. She loves going to Memorial Park. Actually they both do. Alfie has two leads joined together so he is able to get into the water if he wants. Now and again, if there are no other dogs, I can let him run free but I'm sure it's more fun than walking along the road”

Excitement in the van Niekerk home with a new kitten. “I picked up a stray kitten at our warehouse and didn't want to bring her home, as I know how Ali feels about cats, but she was just so dirty so thought I'll keep her in the room for the night & make a plan for her. Then my daughter asked if we can keep her and my son said he will work with the dogs to see if they will accept her … Well needless to say we are keeping her, and Tyson and Ali couldn't be more chilled about it. 😎 🐈‍⬛. Tyson & Ali were adopted in 2020.

10 Jan 2025. “Hi - We are going through to Tshwane SPCA this morning to meet the Boxer boy there 🐶😁 - Romi. (networked on our page)
Here's hoping for another successful rescue 💕 ….. Later - He's gorgeous 😍
Barked quite aggressively when inside the kennel behind closed gate, but actually very timid once the gate was opened.
Lovely nature and I'm sure we'll manage to get him to come out of his shell like we did with Sasha. He'll be great as an only dog. He is neutered and chipped (we checked while there).
We have done all the paperwork, just have to wait for them to arrange Randburg SPCA to come and do the homecheck 👍🏼
16 January - Romi (Romulus) has come home today 💕”
Thank you to the de K**k Family for adopting Romulus. ( He is their 4th rescue Boxer 👏🏼🎉👏🏼 Huge thanks to Jermille at Tshwane SPCA for being so helpful in facilitating the meet & greet & for all the advice & info shared. Thanks also to Randburg SPCA for doing the homecheck.
Go well Romy 🩵

WHOSE WALK IS IT ANYWAY? 🐕🐕

Imagine going on a long-anticipated walk, through new scenery and exciting smells after being cooped up in the same place all day, but you have been fitted with a blind fold and are being dragged or yanked along at a fast pace.

I imagine that this is how dogs feel when we don’t allow them time to stop, sniff and explore the environment.

Dogs largely perceive their world through scent and it’s how they collect and process information to help the world make sense.

Taking away an opportunity for sniffing on a walk really isn’t being fair.. As much as physical exercise is important, the mental stimulation that sniffing provides is equally, if not more important.

Allowing dogs to choose when to stop and sniff provides so many benefits – increases self-confidence, promotes calmness, lowers stress and anxiety levels, lowers pulse rates, reduces cognitive decline in older dogs and provides important mental and environmental enrichment.

Make time for a slow sniffing walk when you can, where your dog is allowed to choose which direction to go and allowed time to just investigate, interpret, process the environment and follow wherever their nose leads them.

It may take far more time and patience as we wait for them to finish smelling that particular blade of grass, but the benefits are well worth it – after all, whose walk is it anyway?
