Lancaster SPCA of South Carolina Lancaster SPCA of Lancaster, South Carolina was formed in July 2013 to help save Lancaster County homeless animals.

Lancaster SPCA is a South Carolina 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization - EIN 46-3374265. Because LSPCA has no building to shelter animals, pets available for adoption are fostered by volunteers in their homes. If desiring to meet or adopt any available pets listed here or our official website (www.lancasterspca.net), please contact LSPCA via email at [email protected].

Meet Brandy (black & white) and Sissy (chocolate)! These sweet girls are 11 weeks old and currently weigh in at 10 lbs. They are adorable, friendly, and playful with lots of love to give. They had a rough start in life but that is behind them now. They are very affectionate and curious, and eager to make new human and dog friends. They are food motivated and very smart, so training will be a walk in the park. We do not know if they are good with cats but puppies are usually fine meeting cats. They are just babies looking for a forever home together or separately to give them a lot of love and attention. If you're looking for a fun, loyal, and loving companion, Sissy or Brandy would be a perfect fit!

If you are interested in meeting Brandy and/or Sissy, please fill out an application on our website. Once approved, we will set up a meet and greet for you. A fenced yard would be perfect to provide a safe place to run, play and potty.

Puppy adoptions come with a voucher for spay/neuter, microchip and age-appropriate vaccines.

🆘 Village, we need your help again. As you probably know, LSPCA offers low-cost spay and neuter vouchers to area residents to help control the overpopulation of unwanted pets that are filling our shelter and shelters everywhere. This program is funded by grants from local business partners and private donations. Our last grant funds have now run out. In order to continue this vital program we need donations now! Last year, we issued 996 vouchers and ultimately 744 animals were spayed or neutered under the program. This year we are on track to do even more. Voucher recipients pay $20 (males) or $30 (females). LSPCA costs average $54 per animal in addition to the amount the pet owner pays. Every donation of $54 will spay or neuter one animal in our program. Can you help us in the fight to prevent unwanted animals, reduce animal overpopulation, shelter overcrowding, euthanasia for space, and needless animal suffering?

Monthly recurring donations help even more to keep this vital program running!

Thank you to our village for always supporting LSPCA as we try to help as many animals as possible! ❤️

I'd like to think he's smiling 😍 Lobo is adjusting well to the three legged tripod life in his foster home 😊

Lobo has overcome so much these last few months and now he will need to begin his heartworm treatment journey before he will be ready to find his forever home.

Expenses for medical cases have been very hard to raise and sadly we see no change to the need in the state of animal welfare right now. The need for help, no matter how much rescues do, only seems to get worse. We need to raise $600 to cover his heartworm treatment.

Please help us raise Lobo's medical costs so we can continue saying yes. ❤️‍🩹

Sandy update - We are sorry to say that Sandy didn't make it. She crossed the rainbow bridge just a few hours ago. This is heartbreaking and devastating news for us.💔 Run free, little one. Your sibling, who passed earlier this week, is waiting for you at the rainbow bridge. You were so loved. 🌈

Sandy was just the latest victim of parvovirus, a deadly virus that is preventable with puppy vaccines. At 11 weeks old, she should have had at least 2 rounds (in the required series of 4 sets) of puppy vaccines by now. That might have been enough for her to not get so sick or at least have some power to fight it. But, sadly, she had no vetting at all. Left defenseless, she succumbed to the deadly virus, just like her sibling did. We thank the doctors and staff at Faulkner Animal Hospital for trying their best to save her and showing her love and kindness.

Don't let her death be in vain. If you have a puppy, please get them vaccinated. Parvo is highly contagious and is spread through the f***s of infected animals. Puppies who have not had ALL of their series of puppy shots should not be around any unvaccinated dogs or puppies. How do you know if they've been vaccinated? You don't. That's why you must avoid dog parks, pet stores, and puppy play dates until they are fully vaccinated. Please share this information with your friends and family. Parvovirus kills puppies. Please educate yourself to avoid the heartbreak and expense of treating this preventable virus. More information can be found here: https://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/infectious-parasitic/parvo-in-dogs

We thank everyone who said a prayer and donated for little Sandy. We are so thankful for our village for helping us, help those innocent furbabies who have no one else to fight for them.

Sandy's two remaining siblings (pictured below) are doing well and have no symptoms. But we are watching them carefully. If they continue to do well, they will be available for adoption in a few weeks. If interested, please fill out an adoption application on our website - https://www.lancasterspca.net/online-application

This beautiful tortie-girl is about 4-5 years old. Her owner went into hospice, and the family dumped her at the shelter to be euthanized. They never even told the shelter staff her name. The shelter volunteers contacted LSPCA for help since this poor baby was terrified and deserved a chance. She is with a foster now who reports that Stardust was a little nervous and scared at first but warms up quickly. She is fully declawed (all 4 feet 😩), so she will need an inside-only home where she is the only cat. You can see in the video (in the comments) that she loves people and craves affection. She will not let you pass without paying the "kitty tax" - belly rubs and pets! This is one special kitty!

She's been spayed, had her first shots, including rabies, and combo-tested negative.

If you can give Stardust the home she needs, please complete an adoption application on our website. Once approved, we will set up a meet and greet for you. Applications can be found here - https://www.lancasterspca.net/online-application

In the never-ending stream of puppies with parvo, meet Sandy. This 11-week-old girl should have been well into her puppy vaccination series by now, but she has had no vetting whatsoever. Now she is very sick with the potentially-deadly parvo virus, one of her siblings has already passed, and there are two more that could start showing symptoms any minute. This is so sad. Sweet Sandy does not deserve this. LSPCA is footing the bill for her treatment. We have so many medical cases that we are still paying for right now (Lobo, Jaz, Moe and now Sandy), we are drowning 😩. We have not raised enough funds to cover the costs associated with any of them. We need help to get the funding to keep treating these innocent animals who need us to help them, advocate for them, and be their voice. Every donation, big or small, makes a huge difference! If you can help with a prayer or donation for Sandy, it would be very helpful. Her bill is estimated at $600-$800 so far. ❤️🐾 If she survives, she will be available for adoption in a few weeks. We will keep everyone posted on how she's doing. Thank you to our village!

14/06/2024

Tonight, another transport, driven by Karen and Jessica, left the Lancaster County Animal Shelter with 46 cats/kittens and 2 dogs. That’s 48 animals getting their freedom ride out of the shelter and heading to points north in NY and CT into the arms of our wonderful rescue partners - NY SAFE Haven Animal Rescue, Paws Crossed Animal Rescue, Chaos Kitten Club, and Happily Furever After Rescue. Also this week eight 5-week-old puppies (the siblings of little Moe who crossed the rainbow bridge this past Sunday 😩) were flown by Pilots N Paws from the Lancaster Airport to Republic Airport in Farmingdale, NY, all arranged by rescue partner, Ollie’s Angels Animal Rescue. Being so young, it was best to get them out of the shelter to their rescue as quickly as possible. Traveling in the transport van would be a long and difficult ride for the really young ones and we are grateful for Ollie’s Angels and the pilots who volunteer their time and planes to help animals in need. So many animals are making their way to safety because of the tireless efforts of so many behind the scenes warriors who are photographing, networking, fostering, vaccinating, dog & cat testing, documenting, updating social media, making videos, driving animals to and from appointments for vetting and health certificates, and the list goes on. There’s a lot of moving parts in rescue but we are making it work as best we can. We are thankful for every one of these volunteers and shelter staff members whose goal is to move animals out to reputable rescues to make room at the shelter so that the ones coming in every day have a safe place to rest while they wait for their chance at a loving home. And, we are grateful for our village of supporters who always have a kind and supportive word for our volunteers and donations when we are in need of supplies, food, and funds for the medical cases. Also huge thanks to LASS and Nutramax for their contributions to our transport program. We ask everyone to please be sure to spay/neuter your pets so we can start to make a dent in this overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats filling the shelters. There is no need for this kind of suffering if we all do our part. Low-cost vouchers are available on our website - https://www.lancasterspca.net/spay-neuter-microchip-application. And, if you are looking to adopt a new pet, please consider a shelter animal. They are all wonderful pets just waiting for a chance to show you how wonderful they are.

We wish Karen, Jessica and all 48 animals onboard a safe and uneventful trip to their destinations. 🚐 🐾 💖

Another medical case.. urgent plea for funding! 😩 Medical cases are coming in faster than we can raise the funds to say yes! We got a call last night about an owner requesting euthanasia on a 7-month-old Belgian Malinois after she was injured. Our vet did not want to do this without giving this puppy a chance at life. So they called us to see If we could help. A surgery like this we knew it was going to be costly, but we had to try! She's really just a baby.

Jaz had surgery today with an orthopedic surgeon to fix her broken femur. Her surgery went well and now we need to raise and cover these costs so we can keep saying yes and saving lives. Our estimate for her care is $4-5k. If you can help Jaz please consider making a donation to her care. Thank you!

6/10/24 - Sad News - Baby Moe gave it a great fight, but in the end, he was just too weak to fight on. He crossed the rainbow bridge last night and is now running free with his mom who was waiting there for him. 🌈 💔 We thank everyone for your prayers and donations toward his bill at CARE Charlotte. They took wonderful care of him, but we needed a miracle. We had to give him a chance if there was any hope at all. Please continue to pray for his seven littermates who are all also being treated for coccidia and hookworms. They are all a lot stronger and bigger than little Moe so they are better equipped to fight this. Their foster reports they are all eating well and playing like puppies. So good news there. 🖤

Update on Baby Moe - His blood sugar is still low - not where they want it to be. They are rerunning the bloodwork today to recheck everything after the blood transfusion. He ate a very small amount of food by syringe. His temp went from 95 to 99.5 which is still very low for a dog, but at least it's coming up! His prognosis is still considered guarded, but he's made it this far so we are hopeful. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and if you can donate toward his bill at CARE, which is estimated at $3000-$5000, it would help tremendously. He is in great hands with the skilled and loving doctors and staff at CARE Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency so we are confident that if he can be saved, he is in the right place. 💜

Only 1 lb, 4 weeks old, and fighting for his life 😞

Moe and his siblings came into the shelter this week after his mom passed away. 💔 Upon arrival it was noticed that he was smaller than the rest and looked lethargic. He was given fluids and underwent a blood transfusion. He was treated for a terrible case of hookworms. He was sent to a foster where he seemed to be recovering, only this morning we got the update he was declining rapidly - blood in his stool, not eating, and cold. He was rushed to the vet where his temp could not register, he has tested positive for coccidia and is overall not doing well. He has been rushed to CARE Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency vet where they are now attempting to stabilize him.

Please consider making a donation to our Moe and sending him a prayer. We will provide an update as soon as we know more. 🥹

Seems like yesterday, but it's been a year since we lost our friend, BJ Mishoe, far too soon. She was a friend to every animal she met and spent a lot of time at the animal shelter working with the animals and fundraising for their care. In her honor, her family set up a memorial fund called BJ's Blessings. You can read about BJ and her life on our website - https://lancasterspca.net/donate -blessings-1

Donations in BJ's name are used for medical care for homeless injured, abused, and neglected animals which was her passion and lifelong work. We will always remember BJ's kind heart and dedication to helping homeless pets and making a real difference in our community. 💜 UPDATE on our boy, Lobo 💜 He had the leg amputation today and did well with the surgery. But now we have learned that he also tested positive for heartworm. After he has had some healing time and is well enough, he will need to undergo heartworm treatment which is never easy and always expensive. If you can help with a donation for this sweet boy, it would be very helpful so that we can continue to take in these kinds of medical cases. His original owners thought it best to euthanize him because of the leg injury, but we know that his life matters and will move mountains for him if we need to. He will pull through this and make some family a wonderful pet. "We believe they are all worth saving." 🐾💖

**😭WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES*** Incoming medical case. Lobo was surrendered to our vet with a horrendous injury to his leg that occurred a few weeks ago. They thought they had it under control but it got infected and now will require an amputation. It's very painful and we cannot let him suffer. Of course, LSPCA agreed to help this sweet boy. Right now he's on pain meds and antibiotics and his surgery is scheduled for later this week at an estimated cost of $800. Added to the cost of vaccines, neuter, before-care and aftercare, the total will be about $1600! If you can help toward Lobo's expenses, it would be appreciated. We will find a medical foster for him when his surgery is completed. In the meantime, he is in excellent hands with Faulkner Animal Hospital. Thank you to our village for your support of our mission to advocate for those who do not have a voice. We promise to keep you updated as we know more.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the event - Tails & Trails at Walnut Creek. It was a fun event for everyone. The shelter brought the adoption trailer with 12 dogs looking to stretch their legs outside their kennels, get some extra lovin' and most importantly, exposure to potential adopters. Congratulations to shelter dog Sadie - she found her "furever" home today🎉! Several more adoptions are in the works, too. That's why these events are so important. It's so hard to see a dog's true personality in the shelter environment. Every dog that came today is a wonderful pet that just needs a chance to show their sparkle. Huge thank you to all the shelter dog walker volunteers, LSPCA volunteers, the shelter staff who spent their Saturday making sure these dogs got a chance to walk in the sun on a beautiful day, our sponsors -Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department and Lancaster County Stormwater Management, our beautiful venue Walnut Creek SC and our vendors - The Groovy Groomers, The Giddy Bee and Susan's Natural Dog Treats and our face-painter, Kelly! All of the funds we raised today will be used for medical treatment for shelter animals. If you couldn't make it today and still want to donate, your support is welcomed! This sweet girl came in as a stray FIFTY days ago 💔. At the time of intake she was only about four months old. She is now 6 months. We are so excited for the support we have received from Nutramax Laboratories for our Transport Mission! This amazing donation will be used to help LSPCA transport homeless dogs and cats from the Lancaster County Animal Shelter to their next step in finding furever homes with partner rescues around the country! We are grateful for our partnership with Nutramax and this incredible donation will go a long way in supporting our transport efforts. Last year, LSPCA transported 751 shelter animals to rescues where qualified adopters are ready and waiting. With this support from Nutramax, we hope to save even more lives this year. Working together with our community members and local businesses supporting our programs, we are able to achieve so much more. Thank you Nutramax for this life-saving gift! 🐾❤️

About Lancaster SPCA (LSPCA) Rescue Organization of South Carolina

Overview

Founded in 2013, Lancaster South Carolina Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LSPCA) is a nonprofit rescue organization funded entirely through donations from individuals and corporate sponsors. In addition to rescuing the most critical-need animals in our community, LSPCA is committed to providing educational programs in Lancaster schools promoting ethical treatment of animals. LSPCA provides low-cost spay/neuter resources to control the overpopulation of unwanted and discarded pets that fill our shelters. LSPCA is an all-volunteer organization and has no paid staff or shelter facilities. All animals are housed with volunteer fosters.

Our Mission

  • To build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness.
