The past year saw my band The Dolly Shakes release their first ever EP. We recorded it at Quina & Liam's flat with Liam's music production skills, had the CDs printed, and then handmade our own cases and lyric booklet insert.

It was a lot of hard work but also IMMENSELY FUN!
I'm so happy with how the printing turned out - really got that punk-ish vibe we were going for! 😎

They're Limited Edition and we have about a third left, so grab one while you can! https://thedollyshakes.bandcamp.com/

✨✨ 2019 Wrap-Up ✨✨

It is by no means a portfolio, or in any way consistent (both in terms of updates or quality of art), but I've decided I would like to share the link to my art blog: www.doyouwantwarmcravendale.tumblr.com

✨✨ My new year resolution is to try to be less critical of my own work, be prouder of my output, and to stop being embarrassed of my work and share it more with people! ✨✨

🎄✨ HAPPY HOLIDAYS, ALL! ✨🎄
My year started out with a big burst of drawing & some real improvement, then tapered out mid-year. So here’s a fast thing to end the year with - my partner tells me the colours look fine, but I think 2020 maybe should be spent on colour study!

Some close-ups for the challenge -
Funnily enough this has made me super aware of how much I need to suck it up & start practising backgrounds. 😔

Just a little comparison image!
On the left is the doodle I did for my sister's wedding back in 2009, and on the right is their recent Christmas present of their little family portrait.
I didn't do much drawing in 2017, but hopefully I will improve much more in 2018! Happy New Year, all!

I MADE A BOOK VLOG! I'M SO FRIGHTENED!

Please, come and join me in my first ever book-chat video.
Watch me ramble about Harry Potter for an awkward amount of time, and try not to say 'umm' too many times on camera.

Talk about books with me! :D

I was asked to do some more sign-writing this week by the lovely owner of the Samosa Shack, who work out of our kitchen at the theatre I work at - she traded me some incredible samosa chaat in exchange for my work, done in chalk pens.
The other board was done for a diner I briefly worked for back in October, and I was given pieces of children's chalk to work with.

Made my good bud a chunky Ravenclaw scarf for Christmas (film colours obv), and I'm happy to say she likes it!
Which really is a relief, because it took me about two years to hunker down and bang it out - mainly because I'm a horrid procrastinator, but also partly because about a two foot into crocheting it I was informed that she's decided she's a Hufflepuff!

Whoops! Almost forgot to show the final piece for the commission I completed back in August for a good friend.
Customer requested the quote "Do no harm, but take no s**t" and gave me free reign of colour and composition, so I set to work designing, and voila!
It was sent unframed, but I packaged it nicely and popped one of my brand new logo stickers on it!

I went to a book signing this weekend for the amazing Maggie Stiefvater, writer of The Raven Cycle. Since I'm such a big fan of the series I decided to take one of my sketches of two of her characters and embroider them onto the shirt I was going to wear to meet her.
Thus, Adam Parrish and Ronan Lynch were painstakingly stitched onto my favourite baseball tee. I wasn't too happy with how Adam's face turned out, but I am pretty proud of Ronan!

Here's a little compilation of some of my cross-stitch pieces that I've completed over the past couple of months. Top left: Good Omens quote. Bottom left: adaptation of Hellboy pixel art by Amanda Kadatz. Bottom right: quote from the poem The Sadness by Caitlyn Siehl.

There's also a little summery photo of a corner of my work-space at home, if anybody was wondering what state I work in.

I always try to cross-post/reference my work here on the FB page, on my Tumblr blog, and my instagram, but certain pieces are exclusive to some sites just to keep it all fresh!
My username is jsteroyle on all platforms, if you're interested in taking a poke around.

A couple of months ago I created a new cross-stitch embroidery cushion for a friend's birthday. In the 'sneak peek' photo you can see I used soluble canvas for the first time, which I did feel was only a partial success, but the end product I'm fairly proud of.

WARNING! The final piece may not be to everybody's taste or suitable for certain people to view due the ph***ic nature of the design, so I've added a link to click for those who do wish to venture on.
