Tuesday was quite warm so for the first time in a looong time we got to sit outside with some beers. While we talked and Jedda kept us safe from the neighbours, poor Orca wanted to join in (she's an indoor cat these days). This is just the tail end of her desperate cry for attention, which lasted long enough for a "You should video her," "Yeah, I always forget to film these things, guess I'm the wrong generation," "Shut up and video her" conversation.

Jedda went under full anaesthetic this morning to have an infected a**l gland dealt with. While she was under she also had her teeth properly cleaned, because why not. We knew she was groggy when she almost didn't make it all the way onto the back seat of Shane's car, and when she got home she simply ignored us and headed straight for the couch. But the vet had said to keep her warm while she was sleeping the anaesthetic off so we had a recovery nap.

On Australia Day we took Jedda to Tooronga Falls, which are about an hour and a half north-east of us, after we came across an article saying the area was dog friendly. Very pretty but a lot of time in the car.

Progress! It's no longer so much a matter of Jedda wanting to eat Orca as wanting to play with her. The problem now is Jedda's idea of play is too boisterous for comfort and involves lots of charging in and nose butting.

Say hello to Orca. She adopted us. Three or four months ago she turned up very young and very pregnant, looking to nest under the house, which sent Jedda into a frenzy every time we let her into the back yard. She was unusually friendly for a feral so we think she was raised with humans and then abandoned. Anyway, she melted a certain smoker's heart and after a long journey involving the local animal shelter where she had and weaned her litter, she's now with us permanently and residing in David's unit. Alas, as yet we have no happy family shots because Jedda is adamant that two super models is one too many, but we are working on that.

We're crate training Jedda. It's taken about two minutes and two dog biscuits to get her to recognise the crate as her mat for the purposes of the "onyermat" command. Simples!
