I absolutely hate making posts like this because I never want to push anyone to do anything that isn't just meant to be - but if you were thinking you might want one of these dogs from animal control but you'd wait and see if they were adopted by someone else - now is the time to act. They are at capacity and there are other strays that will need to be processed into the shelter over the next few days. There is no more room. Decisions will have to be made this weekend. This breaks my heart into so many tiny pieces and I can't imagine the agony this is for the shelter staff and animal control officers who work so hard to get them adopted or get them moved to rescue groups. There just isn't room anywhere. Every contact that has been established over the years has been contacted. New contacts have been made (shout out to Beagles and Bentleys and Bassett Rescue Of Old Dominion for helping us in this desperate time of need) but most rescues are also at capacity right now.
The easy thing for me to do would be to walk away for a few weeks. Not see who won't make it through the weekend, but I'm not going to wuss out. I'm going to go tomorrow for a few hours just as I have been and take pictures like tomorrow is promised and give treats to all my furry friends and pet them knowing full well I may not see them ever again. And as painful as this is for me as a volunteer, I know it is gutwrenching to those who have saved these dogs, cared for these dogs, and spent more time with them than they do their own families. My few hours a week do not add up to that of those who will have to make decisions this weekend. I owe it to those pets and to those who work in animal control services.
What can you do to help? Please keep sharing their photos. Somewhere out there is someone who could give them a home or a rescue that might have one space left for a cute little Eastern Shore Special. Donate to Friends of Animal Control Eastern Shore. FACES to help support all
ADOPTION PENDING!
You can make a backdrop, you can bring bandanas and bubbles and squeakers, you can bring all the treats ... it doesn't guarantee that adoption shot. I was as creative as possible and present you with a GIF of Oliva.
I feel like the best description for her is if someone wanted a beagle-sized lab. She is a true velcro dog. Most of my pictures of her are just her forehead because she insisted on being close to me 99% of our time together.
Oliva is listed as an intact one-year-old female. She has been in the shelter for a couple of weeks now and was admitted as a stray.
If you can find someone for Olivia to stick like glue to, please contact EEastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facilityat 757-787-7091.
No new updates on Journey and Hot Chip - Still homeless, still ready to hit the road like their band namesakes. Please continue to share and help get the word out about these lovely puppies who have now been in the shelter for FIFTY DAYS. Interested in adopting or are you a rescue where they can be transferred? Please call Eastern Shore Regional Animal Control Facility 757-787-7091 for more details.
Journey (black/rust) - male - thinking about 4 months old-ish - is the more outgoing of the two. Though both needed a little time to adjust life on the road, Journey was definitely the first of the two to feel confident around strangers, take treats and dig the bath time scene. He weighs in at 27 pounds. Received his rabies vax and a nexgard this week.
Hot Chip - (tan/black) - male - thinking 4 months old-ish - was the slower of the two to warm up but once he loves you and your treats, he's staying right by your side. I would love to see his next chapter involve a foster to help him build confidence. Journey really is his security blanket right now. He weighs 23 pounds. Received his rabies vax and nexguard this week.
