Inner City Strays, Inc is a not-for-profit incorporated association and charity comprising of a team of dedicated, passionate volunteers. Our work involves reducing stray numbers by rescuing young kittens and cats from various places around the inner city area of Sydney. We provide them with health checks and necessary veterinary treatments, foster and socialise them, before adopting them out to g

ood homes through respected agencies or veterinary practices. Currently there is an unknown number of cats living on the streets of Sydney that are constantly at risk of being hit by cars and suffer from untreated disease or injury. These cats form colonies which may comprise of just a few felines to quite a large number. Through no fault of their own they are often persecuted by residents, members of the public, local businesses or various government departments that refuse to see them as a living, sentient animal. As we are all volunteers we would love the the support of cat lovers who want to see life-affirming programs implemented. We need tangible contributions; money, volunteers, cat food, foster carers, as well as community legal, veterinary and local business support. We support the internationally recognised ‘Five Freedoms’ of animal welfare:

Freedom from hunger and thirst
Freedom from discomfort
Freedom from pain, injury or disease
Freedom to express normal behaviour
Freedom from fear and distress

As we work on the frontline we can see that as a society we should be taking proactive steps to prevent further suffering & offer care. Our dedicated team makes the lives of these street cats so much better.

Stitch is in her element soaking up the sun on the sofa.

Winter days like today are her absolute fav! Stitch is a confident girl and enjoys being where the action is - whether it’s around the kitchen bench or in front of the tv. She enjoys cuddles and affection and loves the sun!

Pickles needs a foster home. Can you foster Pickles?

Pickles has been in care for an unbelievable 6 months now! He should have been long adopted. Pickles is smoochy, fun, affectionate, loving and playful. He has been constantly overlooked.

Pickles and the resident male had a fight out of the blue. They have been happily coexisting for months but now Pickles needs to move. This will be his third foster home. He has lived with dogs, kids and other cats.

If you can help out please get in touch asap. We don’t want to have to board him.

Sapphire and Moonlight are completely bonded. These two do absolutely everything together. Sleep, eat, play and cuddle!

The two were originally found by a member of the public in a factory in Alexandria. Moonlight - the tux - was substantially smaller than Sapphire. We aren’t sure if they are from different litters or if he was just underweight and struggling to survive.

Moonlight follows Sapphire everywhere. He is more timid and cautious whereas Sapphire is confident and loving. They are the perfect duo.

The boys had their first ever meet and greet yesterday. Paws all crossed. 🐾

Vincenzo

Vincenzo was found as a small kitten living under a house. He was a little timid coming into care but his confidence has now soared!

Vincenzo is a huge fan of stairs and loves running up and down. He has been known to slide down the rail on more than one occasion!

Vincenzo is in care with three children and enjoys their games. Once they are all asleep in bed he will jump up for some laptime and a major snooze.

Many of our team knew Bambi and her siblings when she was struggling to survive the streets. Bambi was not welcome where she was living and life was tough.

The team at Cat Adoption Sydney Inc took her in and integrated her into their colony. Bambi has now been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and she is deaf. She is looking for a place to be safe. Can you help?

Introducing Kiki!

Remember that gorgeous and very friendly cat we posted, who was struggling surviving the streets? She is in care and she’s now called Kiki.

Kiki went to the vets yesterday to be speyed and microchipped. It was then discovered that she was suffering from Pyometra. Pyometra is a medical emergency affecting entire (non desexed) female cats (and other species) where their uterus is filled with pus. This happens as a result of bacteria traveling into the uterus after the cat has been on heat. Without treatment pyometra is fatal.

Kiki is a lucky girl. Suffering with pyometra on the streets would be a terrible death.

Luckily she is now desexed and in recovery. She’s such a friendly girl and has been head butting and smooching her carer.

It pains us to give you the saddest update on Sweep.

Sweep visited our vets over the weekend for blood tests. Sadly they were appalling.

Her bloods confirmed Sweep was at the end of end stage renal failure. Her urea, creatinine and phosphorus levels were terrible. There were other complications and her red blood cells were also not regenerating.

Her carer could see first hand, the copious amounts of water Sweep was drinking. She was devastatingly thin and she was extremely anemic. We had hoped for a miracle but it wasn’t to be.

We were advised the kindest course was to let her go.

Sweep spent her last days enjoying hours of lap time, nibbling small amounts of bbq chicken and being utterly adored. She passed peacefully yesterday at the vets - surrounded by love.

Sweep was a gorgeous and loving cat. It’s unknown how and why she ended up at the pound but we are incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to shower her in love at the end.

Barbosa has landed himself an adoption!

Barbosa will be going home with a mother and daughter who are first time cat parents. He is the absolute perfect cat for first time owners. He is gentle and affectionate and super playful.

Barbosa came into care at just two weeks of age. He was found on the streets with his litter mates and mother. He has grown up with confidence and charisma. We are so happy for him.

Some foster homes turn out to be so much more 💗

When Gael’s foster carer was away for a week she went into care with Belinda. That weeks stay turned into a permanent foster arrangement. It soon turned into an adoption!

Gael has become part of the family. She snuggles on the couch with her human mum, she plays with her canine sister and sleeps next to her older feline brother. She has found her home!

We are so happy for Gael. She deserves this 💗

We have been inundated with messages about poor Sweep ❤️🙏

She has arrived. She’s out of the pound. She is off to see the incredible vets at Balmain Veterinary Hospital tomorrow!

Sweep is incredibly tiny - weighing only 2.3 kilos. She is half the size she should be. She has shown us already what a sweet nature she has. Her carer has received smooches, head butts and a lot of lap time already!

Paws and fingers crossed for this little lady.

Purrfect Pickles 💗

This divine gentleman is all snuggles.

Pickles was originally found walking the streets and surrendered to an emergency vet. The nurses all fell in love and asked us for help.

Pickles intermittently drags his left hind leg. Our vets have confirmed there is no muscular or bone damage. It could be due to a trauma. It doesn’t stop him zooming about the house, up and down stairs or scaling the cat tree.

Pickles is a medium haired ball of floof. He has an enormous personality and needs his own Insta handle. Meet him in Ryde.

Do you know me?

I have been turning up in a colony in Beaconsfield for over a week! The colony cats are not accepting me and not letting me eat. Thankfully a kind resident has been looking out for me.

I am not a street cat. I enjoy pats, smooches and headbutts. The streets are no place for a cat - let alone a cat like me.

I’m sick! Can you help me? Foster care needed.

I am currently in the pound. My status has been escalated to critical.

I am only 3 years old and I need further veterinary care and diagnostics to understand what’s going on.

The pounds vet has stated I am not medically suitable for rehoming due to possible kidney failure/disease, diabetes & another unknown illness that is not able to be confirmed without further diagnostics.

Perhaps it’s my time. Perhaps my illness can be managed. I’d like a chance!

The guys at Inner City Strays would love to give me that chance if they can find someone with space to take a sick girl. They could support the carer financially paying the vet bills and emotionally if needed.

Sapphire and Moonlight are bonded brothers. These two are absolutely inseparable and eat, sleep and play together non stop.
Sapphire is a confident boy and Moonlight follows his lead. They adore snuggles in bed and love adventures and on the cat tree or in the dolls house!
These two are perfect for a young family or a couple who work from home.

Colombia is such a giving girl. 💗

She adores to snuggle her carers lap and help keep him warm these cold evenings!

When Colombia first came to us she was super timid and hid. Now her confidence has exploded. She doesn’t hide when visitors arrive, she loves to sit at the table and chat, and she sits in the catio watching the birds.

Colombia adores her feline foster brother and would love a family with another cat please. She still prefers quieter and calm environments, no small children or busy households.

Don’t overlook Colombia in your search for a feline soulmate. She has so much love to give.

Guess who goes on adoption trial today!

Spookie came into our care 11 weeks ago after her owner sadly and unexpectedly passed. Poor Spookie was found by Neighbours hiding under the bed.

Spookie is still coming out of her shell which is to be expected. Her change of circumstances has rocked her but we see more and more glorious snippets of a loving and playful girl, rapidly gaining confidence.

We are so happy Spookie has found a purrfect home so quickly and can now take her time to adjust and flourish. It seems she has really landed on her paws.

Thank you to her foster carer who opened her home in Spookies darkest hour. And thank you to the little community of support that helped Spookie into care.

Pretty Gael ❤️

Gael is so full of life and has so much love to give. She loves games and playing chase. She loves to catch her wand toy and zoom through her tunnel. She’s excited to wake in the morning and start play!

Gael is also very easy going and adores attention. She loves lap time and cuddles in bed. She gets in well with other cats and dogs given proper introductions. She is currently enjoying life with an older cat and a young dog.

This girl is so pretty! Her exquisite black and white markings suit any shade of collar. She can be quite the fashionista!

Gael is located in Balmain. She is a divine age - 9 months. It’s that age where being a kitten becomes slightly less mayhem for the adopter.

Whoever adopts Austin is going to live with such a perfect feline. She is a quiet and shy girl but knows exactly what she does and doesn’t want.

We got him!

Last week we put out a desperate call to help save the life of a lovely boy in a rural pound. Yesterday he arrived in Sydney!

Thank you to everyone who messaged and cared. A lovely lady stepped up to foster and a lovely man drove him down yesterday on his transport run.

The pound staff were so accommodating. They dropped this gorgeous guy to a local vet last week so we could desex and fiv test him before he came to Sydney. He’s still a little Tom cat stinky 🤣but has had a wash and is doing super well!

He’s a talker! And he’s a smooch! He has investigated his new foster room and chatted non stop. Name pending.

It takes a community to save a life and we are so grateful for everyone’s help.

Who doesn’t love a girl all dressed up in a tux.

Fergie is as smart as she looks. She’s quick on the uptake and a dynamo in games. She’s playful and active. Fergie adores exploring, zooming up and down her cat tree and watching proceedings outside through the window.
Fergie had cat flu as a kitten and we thought she might lose become be sight impaired. She has a little vision loss but it has no effect on her at all. She zooms and plays like any kitten.

Captain Barbosa needs a name change to Captain Snuggle. He’s a master of affection and enjoys nothing more than a snuggle on a lap.

Barbosa is an active and playful guy - full of life and love. He enjoys chasing his toys, climbing his cat tree and watching pedestrians below his window.

Barbosa is so ready for his forever home. He is desexed, chipped, fiv negative and 9 months of age. Barbosa has been with us since he was a mere two weeks old!

Unbelievably this adorable chonk hasn’t had one meet!
Truffles is a little hefty and currently on a diet however everything else about her is hugely perfect.

Once Truffles settles into new environments she really becomes part of the dynamic. She just slots in. Suddenly she’s your flatmate listening to you talk about your day and giving sage purrs.

Truffles is 5 years old which means she is playful but it’s not non stop. She adores sleep! She loves her mouse toy and is super content to absorb cat tv. She adores playing fetch and chasing her wand toy and loves cuddling next to you.

Truffles is fiv positive (like so many who have spent time on the streets) however she has had a full dental so cannot pass that on to any other cats. She is a healthy robust little nugget!
She did have FIP but sailed through her treatment not realizing she was supposed to be sick. She hasn’t looked back.

If there’s food to be had she is there. Anytime of day. She loves her treats and her food and your food! Eating is a favourite past time and does need to be monitored by her humans.

Truffles is currently located in Marrickville. She is being slowly trialled with other cats. She is desexed, vaccinated, chipped, fiv positive, has no teeth and is utterly divine.

Morning snoozes in the sun are definitely one of Cefers most treasured moments.💗

Can you believe Cefer turns 16 next month! He looks so heathy and robust!

His IBS has stabilized, he gets monthly injections for his athritis and he is absolutely doted upon!

Cefer rules his foster home and has two devoted humans caring for his every whim.
He takes it all in his stride. As long as his breakfast is on time and the sun is shining - he’s a content and happy chap.

We love updates on our adopted kitties!

Three years ago this adorable munchkin was dumped with his littermates, on the doorstep of one of our partner vets. We named him Vettel and he went into foster with Emma.

Vettel used to sit up on his hind legs like a meerkat and watch cat tv! He was adopted by the lovely Honor and now lives with two feline siblings and a human baby! Vettel is now known as Harry. He loves spending time in the cat safe courtyard and soaking up the sun.

Pickles is the best work colleague. He flops and snoozes whilst you bounce ideas off him.

Pickles is Mr Chill. He’s part of the family from the moment he enters the house. He enjoys kids, he plays with other cats, he looks out the window, he purrs, he snoozes.

We have had a little interest in Pickles lately yet he is still in care. He is slightly disabled in one hind leg which doesn’t bother him. He’s to chill and accepting to be bothered by much as long as he has comfy spaces to snooze.

Update: Lilo has an adoption hold! She will be going on trial with a lovely previous adopter.

Little Miss Lilo is such a calm girl.

She’s the type of cat that loves day long cuddles. She’s in her element cuddles up in bed or on the sofa - with you.

Lilo enjoys squeaking at the birds through the window and lets you know when it’s breakfast time. She’s a huge fan of her toys and people she knows. She can be mischievous and cheeky but mainly she’s snuggly!

Monkey and Thunder here to brighten your Tuesday morning!

These two are doing all the right things - growing, putting on weight, gaining confidence and looking healthy!

Lilo and Stitch were found in seperate locations in rural NSW. They came into our care from the pound. After a few initial hisses the girls have not looked back. They literally eat, sleep and play together. This is what a bonded pair look like! Bliss.

Lilo has always been Queen of the blep! Her favourite things include lying on her back - receiving tummy rubs - playing with water straight from the tap - cuddling with her sister. Lilo has recently been at the vets as she has a hardened ridge on her nose. It could well be from a past trauma but we are having it checked out. With Gigi adopted ( yay) Austin now takes the not so auspicious title of longest cat up for adoption. Austin was born in care. One year ago. 😰 Her mother was completely wild and ended up being a backyard stray. Austin’s litter mates have all found homes, her mother has found a home, and she is still with us. Austin doesn’t have a wild bone in her body. What she does have is Shy bones. She was always Miss Timid. She will hide at meets but once she feels comfy her second nature comes out - her inner smooch! Austin loves to smooch. Whether it’s another cat or a human. She’s all about cuddling up and sleeping through the day. She has occasional attacks of the zoomies - but sleeping is where it’s at. Second to that is meal time. She’s a foodie! Meeko. Sometimes cats come into care that we know were not stray - they were just unloved. Meeko came into care with four teeny babies and cat flu. She had been found on the streets.
