COURTESY POST FOR CRANSTON, RI!

It's kind of odd that this is the second Sulcata Tortoise found in Cranston in a week.

One of the reasons i'm posting this is I saw in the comments section a woman saying this tortoise was in her yard living it's best life and free to leave, when another person mentioned it should be put in the water and it would be cruel to try and keep it.

There is no species of tortoise native to Rhode Island. Tortoises are non aquatic! They should NEVER be put in water! Tortoises have toes = LAND, Turtles have webbed feet = WATER. Having them free roaming through neighborhoods can cost this animal it's life, so i'm hoping my comment on the thread asking the woman to secure it will be seen by her and she contains the tortoise.

Of course the other reason i'm posting is so the owner can be found and reunited with this tort. 🤞💚🐢

UPDATE: BENNY JUST WENT HOME WITH HIS MOM 🙌. He never entered the shelter 😁. Thank you all for sharing this post!

I'm still at the police department with this guy that was found on Pine Street. He's finally relaxing and managed to fall asleep. Prior to this he had been doing a lot of non stop barking. Being at the police department can be scary to a dog. I was hoping his owner would step up. They still may, but it's been hours and I can't keep him here much longer. I was really hoping to not have to enter him into a crowded shelter, but it seems I may have no choice 😢.

Please call #401-727-7411 if this is your dog, or if you recognize this dog. He is a neutered, male.

22/08/2024

I often say that rescue stories are not fairy tales, only sometimes they really can turn out that way! I also tell my dogs that have been in the shelter long term that good things come to those who wait. Well....i'm about to show you how that saying is true 🤗!

I was contacted by a nice couple that had recently lost their Corso to cancer. They were heartbroken and feeling sad about their home feeling so empty without a dog in it.

In speaking with this couple, I really got a clear sense that they were dog savvy. I started doing my checks on them and all the information they had given me was proven to be true. I think this may be the 1st time in my career that when doing checks, both the vets office and town hall were so happy that they were looking to adopt a dog again. Their previous Corso, Draco, was also adopted.

They came down and met Rain on Monday (08/19/24). It was raining....how fitting! I didn't get any pics of the greet but I can tell you that it went amazing! Rain was all about them and I didn't need to question their feelings towards her. These people loved Rain just as I do. The best way I can explain it to you when doing adoptions is there is ALOT that goes into them. Finding the perfect match is not easy, but when you do, at least for me anyway, I get a gut feeling. I don't feel any need to question myself. The answers have all been made clear.

Rain was one week out from being at the shelter for (6) months. That's a LONG time for a dog to be made to live in a shelter environment. It would have broken most dogs mentally. Rain not only put in the time, she put in the work. Each week her behavior would improve, despite since the time she entered, the shelter has been overcrowded. She has lived through a hoarding there, with upwards of (60+) dogs being in the shelter, and even now there may be close to (40) dogs at the shelter. This girl remained mentally grounded through it all. I'm incredibly proud of her!

I've been telling you all that it was my dream that she get to enjoy the summer with her family, have her own yard, and sit under the stars at night with the people who will love her until her last breath.

She has both a mom and a dad. Dad works and mom stays home with Rain. As far as a yard, the girl has land and plenty of it. She now lives in Vermont by the mountains, where she will be going hiking. She lives near a babbling brook. Rain loves water. And what better way is there to see the stars than from Vermont? She now also has a home in North Carolina as well. I believe her dad told me she has four acres out there to enjoy when she goes there on visits. I honestly thought I was reaching when I had my dream for Rain, but she turned out having my dream and more. Rain both deserves and needed this. As for me, I just needed this. I've been very down this summer. It's been one hit after another and I've felt that it's been a struggle to get to the surface to catch a breath. This adoption has given me hope that my Darla and Daryl will get their happliy ever after that they deserve. They also have been waiting such a long time.

I want to thank Andrew Giangreco for coming down to evaluate Rain and all the advertising he has done for her to try and assist in finding her a home. I also would like to thank his friend Lauren for all her help in spreading the word about Rain as well.

Thank you to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter for helping me to take care of Rain for all the months she had been there.

I included the photo of her mom that traveled down yesterday (08/21/24) to get her. She has been sending me pictures and updates of Rain on how her 1st night and morning is going in the home. As expected, Rain is doing amazing with her new family.

I took the photo of her exiting the shelter for the last time. That's the part of the adoption that always gets to me. It's the moment we do this for! I'm incredibly happy that any dog gets out to experience their 2nd chance at life, only i'm human and always feel a bit sad that I won't be seeing them each day like I grow use to.

No worries, though! There is never time for me to be sad for too long. A new dog fills the cage usually right away, which is the case I have now. The very next morning after Rain was adopted, a new dog is now in custody 😢.

As Rain walked to her mom's car, she never looked back. I like seeing that. Rain does not have a lot of car experience. Of course she has been in my vehicle multiple times, but I still wouldn't say she has alot of experience. She would often load up in my vehicle for treats without issue, but we wondered how she would do getting into a strange vehicle? Her mom opened the driver door to unlock the back, Rain jumped right into the drivers seat 😂. Her mom said she did great on her travels and has been giving cuddles and happy and content in the home.

We did it, guys and gals! I want to thank you all so much for sharing my dogs posts to help them connect to a home. It works! Never stop hitting that share button!

Rain, you already know my feelings. They'll never fade! You'll always have your shelter family, only now you'll also have a family that will love you and give you what we couldn't at the shelter. Your name means abundant blessing from above. You were always that for me and now you get to be that for your mom and dad.

Nichole & Scott, Thank you so much for loving Rain the way you do and for opening your home to her. I wish the three of you many happy, healthy years of making memories together! ❤️

There you have it folks, every once in a while in rescue, fairy tales do come true!

FOUND DOG IN CENTRAL FALLS!

This guy was just found on the 600 block of Pine Street. He's extremely friendly, and your going to read something that is VERY rare for me to be able to say....HE'S NEUTERED 🙌! The unfortunate thing is he has no tags or microchip.

A person on the street brought their dog out for him to play with prior to my arrival. That is NEVER advisable! Things could have gone VERY wrong. Thankfully this guy did just what that dog's owner wanted him to do, he played with the dog.

This dog has been VERY socialized. He's wearing a nice 2 hounds harness. He also is wearing a grey collar. He's very well fed. He actually looks a little too well fed 🤭 (that's okay, buddy, most of us can relate 😂). Majority of the pit/bullies that are found in this city are never reclaimed. My gut is telling me this one stands a chance of an owner stepping up. Please share this post to hopefully alert his family that he is at the Central Falls Police Department. I will hold him here for as long as I can before having to transport him over to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter. I'm hoping his family steps up before he is made to walk through the doors of the shelter 🙏.

If this is your dog, please either head on over to the Central Falls Police Department with proof of ownership, or you can call me at #401-616-2561!

‼️Hey All‼️

I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but if you recognize this dog please contact the Pawtucket Animal Shelter at 401-722-4243.
This adorable pup was found left in one of the baseball fields in slater park.

The amount of dogs/animals being abandoned and cruelty treated lately is honestly unreal. We need to figure out the cause of this upward trend in abandonment and sort it out.

If you’re reading this and you’ve felt like you had to surrender or abandon a dog/animal, feel free to anonymously contact me via email with the reasoning. Maybe I’ll put up a poll too. We need a consensus and more information on the root cause so we can actively work on turning this issue around.

Thanks all

Donation request...

It's happened once again, the shelves are beginning to look a bit bare. The Pawtucket Animal Shelter is bursting at the seams with dogs. Some dogs are available to be adopted, while others are awaiting their vet appointments so that they can be adopted. The (3) Central Falls furkids have been available for adoption for quite some time. If you are looking to add to your family, come on down to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter.

In the meantime, we're trying our best to keep all of the furkids happy and entertained. Treats are a big help in doing that, and when having so many dogs, we sure do go through alot of treats!

Rain wanted me to be sure and tell you about her favorite treat, mainly because she's now out of them. I promised her i'd mention them to you. It's the 1st photo. They come in a bag that says bully sticks but they are a large beefy bones. She LOVES them! I included a couple of photos at the end showing her enjoying her last one.

Pork chomps are always a HUGE hit. They LOVE the rolls. They tend to be able to chew on them for a long time, which helps to occupy them when they're in their kennels. So many of the dogs also enjoy chewing on the chew hooves. You can either buy them plain, or they do have the option of filled hooves. The busy bones are also a furkid favorite. We use beggin' strips and pupperoni's literally all of the time. They are great for working with the dogs, especially when out in the playyard. The Pawtucket Animal Shelter also has some small dogs. They tend to love these soft and chewy milkbone treats.

I was filling some kongs last week and I couldn't help but notice we don't have many. Maybe it's because of the high number of dogs that it made me feel that way? We could really use the large or the x-large kong. The black extreme is preferred. Every year I ask for kongs on the Xmas wishlist. We tend to use them weekly. The rubber wears after a while. Odds are I will be asking for more at Christmas.

Pill pockets! We are completely out of them. We do go through them often, especially when our numbers are high. Each dog after their spay/neuter procedure comes back requiring antibiotics to prevent infection to the surgical site. Not to mention any dogs that is being treated for sickness or injury. Pill pockets are great to have on hand.

The Pawtucket Shelter is also low on dry cat food. They use Purina cat and Purina kitten chow.

I DO NOT do amazon wish list. It is your decision on where you would like to purchase from. As far as the treats go, the dogs have no preference on flavor. I only posted photos of items I was referring to in the post so that you would see/know what treat I was referring to.

The dog is a mess. The playyard is a mess. There was fun to be had and Darla sure had it. That's all that counts! 😁

Let's continue to spread the word about Darla still needing a home. She is soon to approach (6) months being here at the shelter 😢. A good portion of her young life has been spent here behind bars. She's spent all of Spring here, and it's not looking too promising she will get a home by the end of Summer.

Her only quirk is a pretty big one to most people...She requires being the only pet in the home.! Most folks have an existing pet, and those that don't, they want a dog that can play with other dogs. Dogs like Darla & Daryl have it so hard finding their way out of the shelter due to that quirk, that's why it is so important that if you don't have an existing pet in the home you consider them. They both adore people and would be a great addition to any family!

To apply, you can do so online at Pawtucketanimalshelter.com, or apply in person at Pawtucket Animal Shelter. For any further questions call #401-616-2561.

Save the date for the clinic being hosted by the Providence Animal Rescue League!

I will tell you this, the past couple of weeks the amount of calls for bats being found in the home was bonkers. I was back and forth to the health department like a yo-yo.

There was a couple of those calls that involved pets in the home coming in direct contact with the bat. Not every animal was current on their rabies vaccine. Aside from it being a law that your pet be current, it can ultimately cause long term quarantine if they're not, worse yet it can cost them their life!

How can this dog still be at the shelter??? 😢

In two days, Daryl will have been at the shelter for three months. As a rule, in my experience, Pit/Bullies on average remain in the shelter for approximately (5) months prior to someone making the connection to want to adopt. Some take far longer. Again, I'm speaking on what is typical for a pit/bully in Central Falls, but i'm sure other cities/towns can relate. They're a breed that tend to struggle to get out of a shelter once they enter (due to no fault of their own), and as a rule, they're a breed that is most noted to be in shelters across the United States.

Another fact is nearly 90% of dogs that enter shelters across the United States are NOT spay/neutered.

This year may be the most challenging year in rescue yet. The obstacles to getting animals homes seem to have increased. Everything from the shortage of vets, the shortage of shelter workers, the economy that seems to be causing a HUGE increase in people wanting to surrender their pets, or in many instances abandon them, even down to fb now deleting posts and not allowing shelter/rescue posts to be shared, which we rely on to connect with potential adopters. I believe everyone involved with rescue would agree that this year has been both mentally and physically draining.

It's been getting to me lately. You know, it gets me down that Rain, Darla and Daryl have been here for so long and have wasted Spring, and practically all of the summer behind bars. They're all young dogs. I wanted better for them! I had hope that they would know what it was to be loved by a family. Run in their yard to catch a ball. To be able to sit out under the stars at night next to the human who would never let them down.

These dogs are truly AMAZING! As much as I work at getting to know them, they seem to work just as hard to know me. I was sitting under the tent in the playyard yesterday. Daryl was running around sniffing, as he loves to do. I was in a funk about the dogs not having homes. I was just off in my mind thinking bad about their situations. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Daryl look up at me. He just stood there for a minute looking at me. He came over to this bed that was beside my chair. He flopped down with his big, goofy grin and just continued to look at me. How could I not laugh? 😂. I tell you all all the time how these dogs are my greatest teachers. They teach me lessons each day.

I heard you, Daryl! I'm good. You're good. Together we're going to work on finding you're forever person/people. Here I should be the one cheering him up. How anyone can give up on a dog is beyond me!

I 💙 you, Daryl! Thank you for being you!

Daryl's needs:

He LOVES people. Older kids should be fine. He has a habit of snatching treats from fingers too fast. It's best to give him treats from your palm. This is something he is working on and can be corrected. Daryl must be the only pet in the home.

Daryl is approximately 2-3 years old, neutered, vaccinated and heartworm tested. Overall I would describe him as a chill dog, very easy going. He is 57 lbs for those needing to know in case they have pet weight restrictions on the property.

If you would like to apply online, you can do so at Pawtucketanimalshelter.com, or you can apply in person at the Pawtucket Animal Shelter. For any further questions, feel free to call #401-616-2561.

To honor a hero 🇺🇲 E.O.W 08/06/24 💔

Last calls such as this are truly heartbreaking. One thing is for sure, these dogs put their lives on the line each and every day for us. They're always the first one sent in and. There's never hesitation when it comes to them protecting their partner, other officers or the public. They were born to work. They live it. They breathe it.

I'm hoping people come out to honor Blesk and all he has done for the Cranston community, as well as for all of us. Having animals in this world is a blessing. Having dogs like Blesk in this world makes the world a much safer, happier place.

Officer O'Donnell and the Cranston Police Department, I'm keeping you in my thoughts 🙏.

Blesk, Thank you for your service! Continue to watch over your partner and the Cranston officers from above. You will never be forgotten! 💙

This is sick on every level 😡! The minds of so many humans continue to get more warped as time goes on.

No animal should ever be put in this type of danger! Add to it they targeted homeless dogs that are seniors!!! I honestly can't say all that's on my mind when it comes to this, so i'll just say...

Thinking of you, Kristen, and hoping that Bug makes a full recovery. ❤️ Hoping this "human" gets caught and exposed for who they really are!
