Jazz finished his Novice Interiors and Novice Exteriors titles in the Scent Woek trial today. He adores this sport!

Luna got an amazingly fast qualifying score in Novice Containers at her very first Scent Work trial, and got third place! Good girl, Luna!

Pacific NW Scent Work trial: Jazz finished his Novice Containers title, and got his second qualifying scores in Novice Interiors, Exteriors and Buried. He loves this stuff!

Luna is now halfway toward her Canadian championship. This past weekend she went Winners Female twice, first under judge Gordon Hayburn (Canada), then under judge Jie Wang (China).

Jazz competed his Canadian Kennel Club championship this past weekend at the Pacific Kennel Club show in Langley, BC. Each time he exhibited as a class dog in Canada he went Best of Winners. His last two wins were under judge Gordon Hayburn (Canada) and Barbara Arndt (Canada). He finished the weekend with Select Male.

The Solstice kids do a variety of sports, a different combination for each dog. Cruiser has been having fun with agility for about 7 years, and at age 9 1/2 had a a couple of great runs earlier this month at the Columbia River Agility Club trials. My plans to take Jazz to Canada for shows in 2020 were dashed by COVID and a long lasting border closure. So, at 5 years old he’s starting again as a class dog, and took Best of Winners each day of the Mount Cheam Canine Association shows (over his Winners Female daughter, Luna), returning home with 6 of the 10 points needed for his Canadian championship. pictured with judge Sandy Orford.

Luna’s first big girl show weekend was the Mount Cheam Canine Association show in Chilliwack, British Columbia. she did a great job, and on this, the last day, she won Best Puppy over a very nice champion boy. Thank you to judge Chakkapan Chantarasmee (Thailand).

All three of the Solstice kids competed in Rally today at the Oregon Trail Havanese Club Specialty. Luna, at age 7 months, was in Novice for her first trial. She got a qualifying score, and third place, and was having fun! Jazz completed his Rally Excellent title in his usual workman like manner. Cruiser, back in the Rally ring for the first time in a few years, got qualifying scores in Advanced, Excellent and Masters, and won the Combined Advanced & Excellent high score, plus the High Triple (all three classes). He then went on to show in the Veterans class in conformation, and Jazz in Specials. No wonder they alll look a bit tired!

Jazz was a good boy today. He got his second qualifying score in Rally Excellent, a 95 (out of 100), fourth in his class. Love this guy! Bree by Mary Lopez, Sheryl Roach & Shannon Stone, co- owned by Mary Lopez.

Luna was a busy girl last weekend. She was in three 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy competitions. On Friday, she was Best of Breed 4-6 at the Cascade Havanese Club Specialty, under judge Kathleen Brock. The same day she took Group 1 at the Greater Clark County KC under judge Cindy Valko. On Saturday at the Greater Clark County KC's she took another Group 1 under judge Claire Mancha. Luna was bred and is co-owned by Becky Roeder.

Luna got to show off in her first 4-6 Month Beginner Puppy classes this weekend. She did a great job, although we have more work to do on her table skills. She got Group 3 on Saturday under judge Bryan Martin, and Group 1 on Sunday, under judge Kathleen Brock. But the most important thing is she had fun!

Luna joined our household 3 weeks ago today. She’s now 3 months old. Thank you to Jazz and Cruiser for helping her learn to walk on a lead! She’s learning so quickly. Her stand, sit and down are getting more reliable, enough that she ran through a master’s level rally course twice yesterday (with a lot of luring!) as well as her second show handling class. She’s also learning our mini teeter and dog walk, which helps with confidence walking where the footing is narrow and may move. Thanks to Becky Roeder for entrusting this little girl to my care. She’s the daughter of her girl Jersey (Rosalba Can’t Stop the Moonlight) and my boy Jazz (Amor Jazz Man at Solstice), co-owned by Mary Lopez. We have high hopes for this smart little girl.

Jazz completed his Rally Advanced title in one weekend, three qualifying scores in three consecutive trials. It was our first time doing rally at a trial in about 2 1/2 years, and he did wonderfully! On to Excellent level!

The AKC Owner Handled standings appear to be final (the 2021 “year” ended on October 13). Jazz finished in the top ten Havanese nationally, even though we were only able to compete about half the year. I’m so proud of this guy. Thanks for Mary Lopez for trusting me with him.
