Thought I would update here since I know I have quite a few people here that follow my girls.
Giselle, my OG Beauceron had a toe swell up and xrays showed that the bone was deteriorating and likely was cancer.
We already had our fall camping trip planned for the following weekend and were able to get her in the day after we got back.
Her surgery was yesterday and she is doing well aside from being pretty sedate but that will make things go easier. I did not send the toe off as it wouldn't change our treatment plan.
She had a great 5 days in the woods with the best weather you could dream of. She spent the entire time we were at camp, in the river hunting for minnows.
All this means she gets to come to Doswell with us after all!
I love this girl and really hope that we have some good years ahead of us still even if she is 11.5.
She's still doing great overall so wanted to give her any time I can.
The business wouldn't be here without her.

I have all my outstanding orders on a white board where I can see them now and have been working my way through them.
I am planning to have them all out by the middle of November.
I will continue to stay closed for custom orders other than the occasional opening for specific things.
I do have a small batch of crystal collars I will be posting soon.

I'm very excited to have found a design that I do really like for my over the shoulder leashes so will be making some of those soon.

What an amazing and exhausting week we had at our National Specialty week in Gray Summit, MO!

We brought over to do a French style Journee where they do a temperament test and morphology judging. The temperament test consists of gunfire, a threat with a baton, and the dogs recovery after the threat is gone. Sinas test was textbook and she earned the Best Female Temperament award.

We ran two PT tests and while we didn't get any passes, I am so happy with how she did for it having been a year since she had even seen sheep. I think now we are probably actually ready for it 😅

Just wanted to take a moment to touch base with everyone again!
Since my last post, I have been able to totally dedicate myself to making stock for our National Specialty in Missouri. While I am exhausted, I am so happy and excited.
I really do enjoy being able to work in big batches. I am absolutely exhausted and my hands are so sore, but its been good.
With lots of help from my mom, we have made 198 leashes and slip leashes, 34 longlines, 60 3/8" slip collars, and a handful of UV and crystal collars. Then another 26 award leashes that I wanted to show off. :) I'm so glad to get to help support out event by supplying some of the awards and hope to maybe be able to take orders like this for other clubs someday.

I know that this break to focus on this has caused wvwn longer delays for some of you but it absolutely reignited my spark to make stuff and showed me that this really is the best choice for me.

As soon as we are back, I will get to the outstanding orders as quickly as I can. I apologize for the delays and ask you to bear with me just a bit longer!

Hey everyone.
A few months ago I decided to make the transition from custom orders, to only doing ready to ship and setting up at events.
This decision didn't come lightly but I had set up at a few events and done quite well and really enjoyed getting to meet new people. I feel helpful being there if someone had forgotten a leash, show collar, or treats.
I have also always struggled with running the business on customs and I thought this would be a way to be able to offer things more readily and not let people down which i felt i was always doing. I was very burnt out and trying to find some way to keep the business instead of giving up on it and getting a normal job.
Around this time I took a batch of orders and then things went downhill quickly and those orders as well as some I have had longer, really fell through the cracks as I tried to build my inventory for events and going to the events. I tried posting ready to ship leashes and such with very little success and if I had already signed up for an event thrn I wanted to make sure that I had enough inventory on hand to make it worthwhile and as profitable as I could, hoping to get ahead and get to the ordered items. Every time I tred to post to get some more income, people would talk about how disappointed they were in me so I stopped posting which meant I ended up making even less.
My communication turned to the worst it ever has been as I felt like it was best for my time to be spent trying to get anything made I could instead of sifting through hours of messages.
My plan to make things better definitely backfired but I'm trying to turn it around.

So here I am... I thought it was past time to try to explain what was going on and offer an apology.

I am EXCEEDINGLY sorry to everyone who I have taken far too long to get to your order or even back to your messages. It was never my intention for the turnaround to end up this way or for anyone to feel as though they had been abandoned. I am trying to do the best I know how to while pretty much daily feeling as though maybe its time to give up on the business.

I'm not quite there though.. I have the huge opportunity to vend at our Beauceron National Specialty at Purina Farms in Missouri next month.
I am really putting everything I have into trying to make this as good of an event as I can for the business to hopefully finally pull us out of the mud.
We are offering a weekend of sports to ALL breeds so if you are in the area, please come out for some fun.

I will be spending the next 2 weeks trying my hardest to get as much as I can done for this event. I even have award leashes I still need to get done 😅
After we get back, I will need a few days to recover and get unpacked, then I plan to dive in head first to trying to get through the backlog of messages and orders. I know this sint an ideal solution but with this event breathing down my neck, it's the only thing I know to do.

This has never been intentional and I absolutely understand how frustrating it has been. I've been really struggling even outside of the business for months now and it's really coming to a head.
Just a reminder that everyone is going though things and that we all need some love right now. It seemes like everyone I talk to is just barely hanging on.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me. I hope that I am able to continue on long into the future but I realize that I am a luxury item and that I may not be able to.

I thought it would be nice to do an updated introduction post since so many new people follow the business now! I am Alicia Wells, the person behind Bar W Customs located in Southeastern Ohio. I started this business back in 2017 because I desperately wanted to find a way to work for myself and was tired of Giselle breaking the collars and leashes that I was buying. I started out making leather products but while I was making horse tack with the BioThane®️ more and more people started requesting it for dog gear and I caught the wave of popularity that BioThane®️ has been on since. My goal is to bring you gorgeous products that are durable and well made to last you through all of your adventures with your dogs. Security is foremost in my mind with my products. I had sold made to order gear for years through my page, shipping items all over the world. In spring of 2023 I decided to start carrying an inventory and setting up as a vendor at splitting events. Sina was maturing and I had so many sport goals that I wanted to achieve and this gave me a good reason to actually be able to go to those events with Bar W as my sole income. I am so happy that I made that change as going to events and getting to meet people made 2023 such a great year. I am so excited for what is to come in 2024. I look forward to setting up at many more events throughout the year and bringing fun new things to my product line. Hopefully teaming up with some trainers or breeders to get my products more places as well! Be sure to like and follow my pages to stay in the loop about what is coming! I am 27 and enjoy being outdoors and training my dogs. I currently have Giselle who is my first Beauceron and is now 10.5 as well as Sina, another Beauceron who is 2.5. Giselle competes in Barnhunt, scentwork, and loves her FastCAT. Sina isthe first puppy I have raised and is my do everything dog who has really gotten me sucked into the sport world. So cool to run across these photos taken in 2016 at one of my first times setting up at a craft fair. Some of you may not know that Bar W actually started as a leather goods company. I worked with a longtime leatherglcrafter for a while before being able to buy out his business. I made leather goods including dog collars and horse tack. As I grew the business a bit, people started wanting to order more BioThane®️ horse tack and then dog collars. I do hope to someday start adding back in the leather as I really enjoyed it but it is a slow process to make those nice tooled collars. I am so happy that I started setting up again and found that I can do so at dog specific events as I never did very well at the craft fairs. Its cool to see just how much things have changed over the years and I'm excited to see what comes next
