Just a day in the life at the Sanossian house pretty much every time I try to train or make a video.
It’s not always perfect, we don’t always get it right the first time, but we certainly have fun!

Something I found on my phone today. I don’t know why I was recording, but these are two prime examples of calming signals dogs use when stressed, uncomfortable, or attempting to calm others down in their environment.
The yawn & the shake off.
You will most likely get your dog to yawn if you point your phone at them to take a picture, tell them to get off the furniture, or refuse to give them food you have (these are some of Athena’s common reasons). The yawn in each of these events is a message your dog is sending you that they’re uncomfortable or don’t like what just happened (don’t like objects in their face, don’t like being removed from something they enjoyed, or don’t like being ignored when you have something they want).
The shake off or shaking the body. Think of this calming signal as a way for your pups to try to relax after experiencing a somewhat stressful situation. Maybe a loud noise startled them & then they shook their bodies. Maybe they were trying to play with another dog that didn’t want to play back, so after being corrected, they shook off and walked away. Or maybe they shook their body because they were wet from the rain (jk that’s just because they wanted the water off their fur).
So next time you see your pup randomly yawn or shake their whole body, think about what happened prior to this event. It was probably a little uncomfortable for them.

“Touch” can be used so creatively to guide our pups or help them build confidence over new objects or environments
Here Storm is asked to “touch” prior to entering the tunnel as a reinforcement or booster, then asked again as a guide to help her come out of it! I love when my clients send me these videos. So fun to see these pups progress.
You can see Storm featured on my Enrichment Training highlight where she learns this cue for the first time!
