This scraggly creature turned 6 today! (Grooming day is tomorrow. Sorry, Chess.) It’s hard to believe she’s already had 6 trips around the sun. I love this little black and white more than words can say. She quite literally changed the course of my life, and I’ll be forever grateful to her. She has matured quite a bit in the last year. Her general attitude has become a bit more laid back, but she still lets her goofy side make an appearance from time to time, especially when she’s playing with her new little brother. Happy Birthday, Chesster! Here’s to many more! 🎉

This. This right here. We came home with some loot from UPDIF 2022! I’m so incredibly proud of this girl! It was a ROUGH weekend of weather, but she gave me her all each time we stepped on the field. Our biggest surprise was earning 9th Overall in Greedy, 2nd in her height division!! Such a good round! I was hoping to take a Top 3 spot in Seven Up, but we had a rough start to our round with a knocked bar, which we made up pretty well. We ended up in 6th overall, just 3 points shy of the top score, and 3rd in her height division. She handled beautifully and intercepted discs from the right, and I could not be more proud of her! We’re taking 1st next year, though. I’m determined. Haha! The best part of the week, though, was seeing friends from all over and cheering everyone on. Can’t wait for 2023!! 💗🧡

Our favorite stop on a local hike. It’s like a throne! This is the first hike Chess has been on in a WHILE, and she did so great! She only had a small reaction to one dog, and it was a tiny dachshund that lunged and barked at her first. She recovered and refocused super quickly, though! She passed one dog TWICE that was whining and hyped with zero reaction, which is a big deal for her! Having not worked with her around other dogs on leash in a while, I was really impressed with how she handled herself today. Need to do this more often. ☺️

Finally got my hands on a green Klimb! This photo about sums up Chess’s feelings about posing for a picture and NOT getting to run around yet. 😑 Chess’s foot seems to be completely fine after that one afternoon/evening of discomfort last Friday. She’s been on restriction, but she’s trying real hard to convince me she’s A-okay! She won’t be playing disc this week, and she has a FastCAT event this weekend that we’re playing by ear. Gotta make sure to keep my girl happy and healthy!

On August 23, 2021, Wildling was called away too soon. Wild was a high-content wolfdog that had the unique opportunity to do more than most of his kind. In his four short years on this earth, he traversed the beaches of Oregon, the mountains of Colorado, the fields of Tennessee, and countless other places. He loved juniper and snow and astroturf. He took every opportunity to lie down in cool water. He sang for his friends when they strayed too far away. And he never forgot...anything.

Wild and Abigail inspired so many to explore beautiful places, and that is the legacy Wild leaves us. Get outside with your dog and see new things. Use to share your epic adventures in his memory.

Knowing Wild was not only a joy, it was a privilege. He was Chess’s first and best friend, and we were lucky enough to be in his “inner circle” of favorite people. We’ve traveled across the country together multiple times, and enjoyed countless wanders together. When I got the call he had collapsed, I rushed over to do whatever I could. This entire day feels surreal, and I am heartbroken. I’m still processing this loss, and I probably will be for a long time. Send Abigail so much love, but please respect her in her time of grief.

It’s so strange how you can be so affected by the passing of beings you’ve never met. This has happened on more than a few occasions to me this year. This time, it was Momo. Andrew’s unique way of sharing his journey and simply doing life with Momo has always been inspiring to me. Their relationship was so special. They experienced so much together. I wanted that. I’ve done that. I’ve traveled all over the country with my dog(s), and those experiences are unlike anything else. My heart aches for Andrew, and I’m holding onto my dogs and the memories we’ve made so far just a little closer. Never take a moment with these incredible creatures for granted. 🖤

Happy Gotcha Day and 2nd Birthday to this beautiful girl! I can’t believe she’s been with us for a whole year! To be honest, this dog and I have struggled. She is a genetic mess, physically and mentally, but we have worked so hard to keep her in the family. We’ve reached a point of easy management, and I’m so grateful to see that hard work paying off. Despite her flaws, she is sweet and snuggly, and the bond she shares with Kyle is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Today, we celebrate her! 💙
