LAS is excited to announce our next voucher giveaway on November 30 from 5-7 PM! Vouchers will go to the first 100 people and are good for cats and dogs and males and females. The vouchers will be redeemable for 60 days only at Live Oak Animal Hospital South. There will be only one voucher available per household and to qualify for the voucher your animal must be present with you, have proof of a current rabies vaccine, proof of City of Lubbock residency, and microchipped. If your animal is not currently microchipped, LAS will do it free of charge when getting the voucher.

Lottie is a sweet and sassy year-old Labradoodle that was donated to the Muttley Crew program by Lucky Labradoodles. Lottie had a few health challenges as a puppy, one that left her with only one eye, but still, nothing slows down! Lottie works in a Structured Learning Classroom at Monterey High School. We even have a student-run coffee shop named after her, Lottie & Lattes! When Lottie isn't working at school, she loves to play in the water, go in the car wherever her mom goes, and enjoys games of hide and seek!

I’ll always share- knowledge is power

I had to copy/paste this because the post wasn’t shareable but it is a very important thing to know especially if you are giving this to your dog and have had a seizure. I use topicals and have never has been an issue for me but I know of this happening from friends and other breeder friends. I do not recommend using Nexgard. Discuss the risks with your vet so you are informed but if you do use Nexgard (or chewable flea and tick medication like Simparica trio) and have had an occurrence of seizures I would cease using immediately. I would choose another treatment even if you have not seen an issue because some dogs do not live through their first!:

It’s a gamble you guys 🎲

When you bring your seizing dog to the vet and the FIRST question is not “what do you use for flea and tick meds?” Then you know we have a big problem here.

Most people tell me that when their dog has a seizure or any neurological issue they take the dog to the vet and after tons of bloodwork and test after test with a clean bill of health that their vet never, not once, asked about flea and ticks meds that might have been given.

How are consumers ever going to learn about the dangers of this product if vets don’t even CONSIDER that this drug MIGHT be part of the problem? When you get a new puppy and you go to the vet guess what is in your puppy pack? Yup. One of these chewables.

I’m not sure what else to do so I just spread the word. It’s all we can do.
