The puppies went on their first car ride to get to their first vet appointment this morning. Aside from some general complaining that they couldn’t run rampant through the clinic, they were very brave. All 8 puppies are healthy, vaccinated, and will be ready in a few days to start venturing out in the world. The puppies are getting used to the different way things look in the dark, and different sounds at night. They have 2 very dedicated babysitters to help them feel at ease, and who also stand out way better than my almost black German shepherd puppies. The puppies got to experience road traffic including cars, horns, alarms, joggers, and scooters all from the safety of the front porch, while enjoying a blueberry, yoghurt smoothie. The critical socialization period starts as soon as the ears and eyes are open and ends around 12 weeks of age. This means that the breeder has 6 weeks to make a big impact on the stability of the puppies, while the puppy owner has 4 weeks, or less if they purchase the puppy after 8 weeks. One of things I am doing to help meet my responsibilities as a good breeder, and puppy raiser is to play different sounds for the puppies while they eat so they have a good association with things like thunderstorms, fireworks, and alarms. #athenedengermanshepherds #PuppyCultureBreeder #germanshepherdpuppies #sounddesensitization
