Hi everyone i have had a lot of people asking me about substrates for trapdoors as they have had issues using premixed substrates and the substrates they have been advised to use from people in posts the problem with these mixes is they are often wrong and are hard to add the correct amount of moisture so they are usually too wet or too dry as i collect or breed most of mine i see what the substrate is like from the areas they come from i have tried most of the substrates other businesses supply and ones people have suggested some were ok but hard to get right i have tested many different mixes over the years and found a 50% mix of moist coco, 25% play sand and 25% Coles clumping kitty litter that is 100% pure clay no additives to do best i soak and squeeze out the excess water from the coco then wash the play sand draining out the excess water but leaving it wet then mix the two together once mixed i add the kitty litter in dry and mix together the kitty litter will absorb the moisture from the coco and sand stopping it from going gluggy i use the same mix for funnel webs and tarantulas as well i have added a video of the mix in the comments.
