This is a 3 year old gelding who has been in training. He is an amazing horse and he is showing us how wonderful the Galicenos are. What I love is how these horses are so willing and kind. Notice that the hill he is backing down is very steep and there is major traffic on a state highway right next to him - and he is unfazed!

Glen Bracken the founder of The Galiceno Horse Breeders Association. Glen was vacationing around Monterrey Mexico in the 1940’s. He and his wife came across these extraordinary horses by chance. He became obsessed with putting together a breeding program at his ranch in Tyler, Texas. At one time, he alone had 600 mares. Galicenos became quickly popular and the association was created to help promote and record. Unfortunately, over the years the breeding slowed and now these horses are at a critical low point in population.

Around the late 1960’s the GHBA has a Latin inspired costume class where contestants and their horses were adorned in Spanish attire.
