Knitted tea & egg cosies - from my imagination, designed and knitted by myself. Designs created and handmade by Helen. KNOTTED: Macrame pieces for the home and to wear. Macrame hanging pot plant holders I have made use a variety or cord sourced from around the world and do include Australian made cord too. My individually made and designed items use materials ranging from natural fibres (jute, cot

ton and sisal) to the synthetic (rayon and polycord). I do make bespoke pieces and for example have created two lighting fittings to Australian Standard (a bit thank you to Volker Haug who kindly gave much appreciated advice). AND

KNITTED: Tea Cosies and Egg Cosies in the main both designed and knitted by myself. Sometimes I will use an existing pattern, I do in those instances credit the source of the pattern. I have a bit of fun making these, and must admit to being a bit of a slowish bumbling left handed knitter. My chicken and rooster range has been hugely successful. These are part of my house trained (and as yet unnamed) animal Tea and Egg Cosies, that have now found their way in homes from Tasmania to England. I have new tea and egg cosy hatchlings regularly and will make a great attempt at offering these to you via facebook prior to taking them to the first outing at College Market, when I attend. I also create bespoke pieces that cater for that unusual teapot shape or handle position. Please message me if you see something you would like to purchase, include your email address and I can then send you a PayPal invoice for the item and please note that it will include a postage charge payable by you.

Bling Chickens have hatched, and for each bling chicken sold (until I run out of bling) $10 will be donated to one of my favourite charities. 🐓🐓🐓🫖🫖🫖

This morning’s knotty activity before work.

Australian manufactured cord YES!
Need you ask….

Cordtex from what of know was manufactured in Sydney up to 1980’s, and is made from 100% Herculon, a super tough and strong sounding name indeed! Herculon is a polypropylene fibre resistant to absorption, mould, fade, yet like Hercules has a weakness or two - number one heat and number two…… scissors 😆✂️sorry I couldn’t resist the joke.

I am making a wall hanger that will hold three small round glasses, yes similar to the orange piece in my main photo.

There is more knotting to be had so enjoy your day and I will continue my with my knotty ways.

Making it fun with a tad of whimsy, not long finished is this tea cosy, yes pattern is designed by me. I knitted it using two strands of Patons Catkin (circa 1970 or maybe earlier) using no 11 (fine needles) I know it takes longer but structure and thickness was needed to get this look happening. I have it atop a two cup teapot 🫖. Overall it would have taken three hours plus to make. It will be a “one of” teacosy at this stage.

Each of my is an original design, there are no two the same.

in and say hi to local hand makers, ask questions of the makers and most importantly enjoy the day.

I also make macrame 🪢🪢🪢with an emphasis on using cords.

Buying a handmade item from the maker I personally find rewarding, I know I am buying something special for myself or as a gift.

Last week I purchased two alpaca beanies at $40 each, they are exceptional quality and so beautifully made, now that is a bargain I am thrilled to be giving these unique items as a gift.

Just finished before market, this owl just hangs around and quietly watches over all before it.

I have made the pattern up as I knotted, that is knot to say it hasn’t been made before by hands of another knotty person, as macrame does date back to 1500’s, and has no single country of origin.

Hatching 🫖 today after a week of making the bodies and sewing them up, last night saw me knitting the whites of the eyes and an early morning of knotting beaks.
This little two cup teapot is smartly dressed in wool, alpaca and acrylic tea cosy, one of my own designs. Naming rights go to the new owner whomever they may be. This tea cosy comes fully house trained... 🐓🐓🧶❤️❤️❤️❤️

Each I make is unique with no two being the same.

This picture shows a macrame piece commissioned before Xmas. I posted a pre-Christmas view but knot the finished pic until now. Loved at first sight, which makes me very happy

The cord used is sadly not Australian, it is Spanish. Workability is better than Indo/China cord but not as good as Australian.

Macrame as an art form has been around since approximately the 1500 (recorded that is)
With three basic knots and no rules there have been some truely talented and very knotty people throughout time.
Sadly given that very early examples exist only in museums or private collections and 1970’s + media captured a small part of the partial world wave during the 1960’s to mid 1980’s (remembering that macrame has been in use in some countries for continuous centuries so no knot a new invention 😆🪢🪢) I am gong to select a number of pieces to showcase from my library. In the hope you will take inspiration and happily say I MADE THIS!!!!
And 🪢 have others publicly shame you for what they perceive as copying ffs..

This pattern was created by Martha Holton who used another designers creativity to create a jungle themed room for her son, then segued to this and many other animal designs published #1977 by Craft Publications Inc.

Selling others patterns for profit 💩💩
I see many people selling pdf’s from old pattern books like this and want to pick the scabs and open the wound. This is published art.

Your local library is an awesome resource
