My 2-year old gelding thought a fresh from the garden carrot was a toy. 🤣 #horses #funnyreels #funnyvideo #funnyhorse #funnypets #funnypetvideos
A lot of my horses have either “tolerated” halters or openly despised. I got to thinking, if my horses are good about staying “with” me, do I really need halters for anything other than tying?
So this morning I just swung a lead rope around Teddy’s neck and off we went. He definitely wanted to make several stops for grazing but was easily redirected and moved forward again.
He has been sore in his hinds but between my bodywork and a few stifle exercises, I could tell he was feeling better.
All I know is he was so forward moving, I had trouble keeping up with him. And I move at a pretty fast pace most of the time. I felt like I was dragging him before. (Teddy is fairly new to me and got really sore after we took his shoes off a month ago.)
Think I am going to order a neck rope and start working with all of them with it.
Don’t be afraid to challenge the norm my friends. 💕💕
Can you tell that Fyre likes to nap with me? #horses #cutehorses #palominohorse #palomino #funnymoment
Fyre, my 2-year old gelding, is lodging a complaint about the whole “personal space” concept. He does not feel it is important at all. 🤣 #horses #palomino #funnyhorse #cutenessoverload
I was sitting in the bluebonnets when Fyre realized I was there and had to come check on me. #bluebonnets #palominohorse #horses
Using your energy with horses
Every person and thing is made up of energy. We all have our own energy we can control. Horses are particularly sensitive to energy.
This morning I played around with pushing my energy out in a bubble away from me so that Fyre, who prefers to walk literally right next to me (see video in comments for evidence), would walk around me rather than right in my space.
Watch what he does. 😍
Shifting your energy can instantly change how your horse responds to you.
He even walked in a curve like the bubble. 🥰
Have you ever played with your energy and your horse like this? Whether for fun or while training or riding?
Horse rolling all the way over
There is an old belief that the more times a horse rolls all the way over/back and forth from side to side, the more they are worth because it indicates a better body condition. They are more athletic/supple some believe.
Biomechanically it makes sense, if they are moving freely without tenseness or pain, then they are free to move easier.
So watching my 20-year old Dancer roll back and forth this morning after the first significant ride he has had in a couple of years yesterday made me pretty happy to see.
It didn’t hurt that he rolled right in the middle of the bluebonnet patch. 😍
Watching my horses roll definitely gives me insight into how they are feeling. I had a mare with DSLD and when she was struggling to get up after a roll I knew it was going to be time to let her go.
Do you watch your horses roll?
When your 2-year old gelding whinnies for you and then comes running. 🥰🥰 #horsepower #horselover #palomino #loveshismama #horsevideo
When your horse gets mad that he farted. #funny #funnyhorse
Because I know there are a few of you that will say “pics (video) or it didn’t happen” I present to you the last of several attempts I made to demonstrate jumping running water to Fyre, my almost 2-year old who firmly believes sharks live in the running water and under no circumstances can he be made to think otherwise.
Yes he will often run with/after me so I figured it couldn’t hurt.
Hey I even added sound effects. 😆
My hips are screaming at me for running and jumping in mud boots but it was worth it. 🫣He will eventually get it.
Fyre REALLY liked the sound of my rain/wind breaker. 🤣 #funnyvideos #funnyhorse #funnyanimals #horses #horseplaying
From clean to dirty in just over a minute.
The rain had only just stopped as I pulled up to feed. So they were still clean but once breakfast was done they wasted no time in getting their mud bath. You can see who is the pro. He left no inch unmuddied. 🤣
Ankh LOVES cats and dogs. Really I think he wants one all for himself. Lol Cookie has been a little overwhelmed with his desire for attention but finally let him give her some love today. He nuzzled all over her. He was so happy. Lol.
Fyre and I had moved away from where Ankh was grazing. I saw him finally look up to find him. I called “Come” which is our training command and he stood looking for us still. I called him by name again and he came running! 😍😍 #horsetraining #clickertraining #palomino #arabianhorse #painthorse #horsemanship
Ankh loves dogs. Like LOVES dogs. So whenever we walk to the back of the property, he goes immediately to stand behind this specific yard. The dogs bark incessantly and he is happy as a clam. 😂 I finally have to move far away so he will follow me and leave the dogs. #horses #funnyanimals #lovedogs #palomino #arabianhorses
I made a busy board for the horses. I knew Fyre would like it best. It has a large zipper, two dog toys, a hinge, and a caster. #horses #horsetoy #braindevelopment #horsemanship #horsemanshiptip #haytwineforthewin
If you have Texans in your news feed, you are going to be seeing a LOT of “gratitude for rain” posts. Here are my Golden Boys showing their thanks for the rain, and particularly the MUD it brings.
It won’t be near enough rain but the rain and cooler temps (90s/70s here in the Austin area) over the next few days are so appreciated after months and months of 100+ temps and extreme drought.
Fyre was being kind of pushy with me today over an extended period of time because he wanted treats. Ankh finally told him enough was enough and wouldn’t let him near me anymore. This went on for several minutes but this is one of the more dramatic clips. #horses #horsebehavior #animalbehavior #palomino #horselove #fatherandson
One of the first things you teach a horse in clicker/positive reinforcement training is “touch.” I have worked with Ankh on it a few times over the years so he has figured it out. Fyre is still trying to understand it but he had some great moments with his daddy this morning and the pinwheel. The wind wasn’t blowing so it was a good time to introduce it. Teaching “touch” encourages curiosity and trust and can be transferred to many tasks with horses. #horses #horselife #horsetraining #horsetrainer #horsemanship #palomino #leander #leandertx
