There's no easy way to say this. We knew this day would come. Bob passed away this morning. He's at peace now, no more pain. I'm a mess, so I will post arrangements later after I'm able to compose myself. Thank you all for the love you've shown to my brother. Peace

Zoe’s Daddy Bob has run out of miracles. The cancer has entered his spine and he is paralyzed below the waist.He has moved to a hospice facility to get proper care.

My friend Diane Askew told me about Suttonfield Lake, connected to Sonoma Valley Regional Park. So on this day after Valentine's Day, 2013, I came equipped with my new Canon camera around my neck and Zoe by my side. There's something very spiritual about this photo of Zoe in contemplation.

Yesterday I took Zoe out in the wagon during a lull in the storm. I heard a man's voice calling out: "Sir! Sir!" I turned around to see a man and his wife crossing the street. He said, "I just want you to know that you are a wonderful human being, doing what you are doing!" I didn't know how to respond except to say I love her, she's my baby.

Then I cried for the rest of the walk, because I heard the meaning of my own words. What I want is for her to live forever. I want her to run again on all four legs. But she can't. So because I love her, I'll pull her around in a wagon. I will find joy in simple things like the occasional wag of her tail or an occasional rise of her head to sniff something nearby.

Every morning I wake up, glance over at her bed grateful that she is still there. When I walk over she looks up at me and wags her tail, tips her head ever so slightly, then gently pushes her head into my hand. You see, she does have the ability to tell me how she feels! And one day she will tell me something I don't want to hear. And I am grateful that's not today!

Zoe came to stay with me the first time in Sonoma on June 28, 2012. Since then I have taken 4556 photos of Zoe. Here is photo number one. Seeing it now makes me feel so much love, knowing that it was the beginning of one of the best parts of my life.

Zoe took her first ride in the wagon, because she could no longer walk because of cancer in her paw. I was happy to pull her through all her favorite spots until she died one month later. In that final month I understood that I loved her more than I had loved anyone else, ever!

Today I bought 7 "American made" brown skid proof bathroom rugs to throw around on the bare floors to prevent Zoe from falling down. She thinks Christmas came early and she got 7 new beds! ❤
