Trail Buds 💛 I was a little worried about how these four would do as a hiking unit simply because we haven’t had the time to practice. Bird, Hallu, & Bet of course went to Canada with me last year but any time you add a different dog into the mix, dynamics shift & it can throw off a groove. No grooves were thrown 🕺🏻

Van absolutely rocked her first big hike! She finally plopped down for a nap mid-hike with the rest of the crew, but she was ready to go at a moments’ notice 😂 I think a lot of folks forget that Terriers are endurance dogs! While, yes, they’re also there to warm your feet & keep you in good spirits with their “little”attitudes, ultimately they are wake-long hunters & are always ready to keep that game going.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IDGIE 🎉

Idgie has the misfortune of sharing her birthday with the day that Wild died, so I mostly celebrate it the day after. I don’t have any fresh photos of our golden girl, but here’s one of my favs from her puppyhood 🧡 Idgie was the last puppy that Wild had an influence on & you can tell 😅 While she’s currently on a break from competition life, she has always been such a fun dog to train. As she’s matured, she’s decided that road trips aren’t her favorite - and that’s okay! She has a lot of fun working with my clients as well as hanging out in the living room at home. We love her soft ears & her even softer eyes. How is she already 5?!?

August 23rd. How is it August 23rd again already? Wild has now been gone for almost as long as he was alive. Four years since the day he left us while playing with his family at just over four years old.

I don’t have anything eloquent to say this year, but I wanted to share this picture of Wild alongside this picture of Hallu. The trip I recently took with Hallu & Co was originally going to include the trail that Wild is sleeping on in his picture, but circumstances shifted my plans this year & we ended up on another trail in the same forest instead. When Hallu curled up in the flowers for a mid-hike nap, tears sprang to my eyes because I remembered the time that Wild did the same. Wild was the cuddliest when we were traveling & I SOAKED UP this uncharacteristic trail-nap he took that day 💙 Hallu is so different than his half-brother, but in that sleepy moment, they were the same. Until the bridge, Wildling 🌈

A moment for ✨HER✨I think most people assumed that Bird would be carried on this hike, or that she’d hate it, but Bird HIKED THAT HIKE. She got hoisted a couple of times, but for less than 10 minutes total of the whole multi-hour hike. She sat on the side of the trail when people passed - often being discovered AS they passed to shocked & amused responses 😂 & took every switchback & trail obstacle in stride 💙

Hallu has always loved his sleep, but he’s never been one to sleep it all at the same time 😅 When we travel, that’s still the case & usually means that we wake up at between 1-3am to do a bear check + quick potty & then he’s UP up just before sunrise. On this day, it was the same. We got treated to a shooting star 💫 during his first outing & then this lovely soft sunrise during his second 💛

I’m sure I’ve reposted this one before, but I was scrolling through looking for something else & couldn’t resist 💙 I have very few photos of Wild walking to camera. In the earlier days it was due to needing to secure him to whatever he was posing on 😅 & then it just wasn’t something we practiced.
