Life with Lola update:
We’re rounding the corner to year 12 and are having some recent scares & in summary we’re not sure what’s wrong with Lola girl.
Last week, in the middle of the night, where it started… she jolted out of her kennel and was in a hunched down position, almost like she was going to scoot, clearly in pain and shaking, then sitting down shaking, but clearly something wrong with her back/hips/something?
This carries on for 3 more nights, most of which she was in the bed for… mid sleep, middle of the night & suddenly gets up, tries to turn around, back legs fail, she panics & tries to jump away, back legs under her, yelps, then I console her and she leans into me shaking in a sitting position for 3-5 minutes until we’re then suddenly pretty back to normal. She’s not ever unaware.
Still wants to walk, still jumps on the bed, hips and back legs seem a little wobbly at times, but otherwise good, eating and going potty fine.
Vet visit at CSU’s neurology department yielded little to no answers.
From CSU: PLAN/RECOMMENDATIONS: “She was a very brave girl for her exam. On physical exam she was bright, alert, responsive and overall healthy, however anxious. We were able to complete a neurologic exam and found no or abnormalities in her nerves and postural reflexes. She sat repeatedly when we palpated her lower backnear the base of her tail. This may have been related to stress in hospital or a sign of pain or discomfort. Afterwards, we moved Lola’s hind legs through several ranges of motion and found no signs of joint or muscle pain. Based on these findings, we were unable to localize the source of her discomfort. Lola's bloodwork has returned as normal which is good news. At this early stage in her presentation of symptoms, we have recommended waiting on diagnosis such as radiographs, CT or MRIs until after a trial course of pain management medications.”
She’s taking pregabalin & Acetaminophen. 2 nights, no episodes. But last night at 4 am had another (mild) episode.
A lot of heartache and stress this week. 😭🙏
If anyone has experienced anything similar, we’d love to hear what it was/could be.
