This is Coco walking with her awesome owner. When I met Coco, she would ignore her owner quite often, especially while out on walks. We worked on engagement and leash skills. Now walks are fun for everyone. Coco still gets to sniff and explore and her owner can gain her attention. It’s a great balance. Walk WITH your dog - think about that, it can be done using positive methods!
This is my 9 year old daughter walking our 10 month old, 65lb #GSD Nala around our cul-de-sac. Once I taught Nala basic leash skills, I showed my daughter how to walk her. To keep everyone safe I implemented these strategies: 1. We use a front clip harness and 4 foot leash 2. She brings treats and is encouraged to reward Nala 3. She is to stay far enough away from other dogs and people to maintain Nala’s attention 4. She can only walk her in our cul-de-sac where I can see her from our front door. It’s important to keep everyone in the family involved in the training and you can do this with positive methods! Adjust accordingly to keep everyone safe, especially kids. This is one of the many benefits of working with OC Paws 🐾- we can teach the whole family, create realistic training goals and help everyone build a better relationship with the family pet! #pettraining #dogtraining #positivedogtraining #kidsanddogs

I always knew my treat pouches were on point.
Trainer Paige adopts a new puppy! This is part of her introduction to her current dog, Finn. Calm and easy. Introducing a new dog into your household will look a bit different for each dog and family, as there are individual variables. Here, Trainer Paige keeps it calm and positive as she knows her own dog’s needs and wants her new puppy to ease in. Excellent work, as always! #dogtrainer #animaltrainer #rescuepuppy #positivedogtraining
“I like those treats and this positive reinforcement training!” - 🐾

Another sighting of Kasper the friendly Golden! This time he’s showing off his cool new, “side” behavior. I think when he sticks his tongue out it’s just for show. 😉

Doing some one on one work with Kasper the friendly dog. While our main goal in this training lesson is to show Kasper that there are better things to do than eat the grass in his backyard, we took some time to work on “Down” from a distance. This is a lot harder than Kasper makes it look, most dogs start out by coming to you when given the “Down” cue from a distance. If you think about it, we tend to primarily cue that behavior when we are standing right in front of them, not
from 10 feet away. Keep up the great work Kasper! And let’s get you off of the grass diet while we’re at it..

Meet Zelda! Two years ago she would be growling, barking, and lunging toward the dog in the background from 100 feet away. Fast forward to today, she is able to calmly stand 10-15ft from this dog while engaging and disengaging comfortably. She has come a long way in the two years that we have known each other but I couldn’t be more proud of her and her wonderful owner for getting her to this point. She had improved greatly within the first few months of her training however, there were some set backs with the global pandemic. But Zelda and her owner have only improved and will continue to get better as time goes on. This is a very proud moment caught on camera. #dogsofinstagram #dogtraining #dogtrainerslife #doginstagram
Is that a Muzzle??? This is a very common question I get asked by people who see me working with a dog who is wearing a head collar similar to the one that Teddy is modeling ever so nicely in the video clip. In this moment we are taking a break from our reactivity training lesson and practicing catching some treats. Teddy gets very excited when he sees other dogs, it usually results in him lunging toward the other dogs to try and greet them. And although with reactivity we try not to focus so much on symptoms like lunging and work with the dog on alternative behaviors they can offer in the presence of their triggers, we aren’t perfect and sometimes need a little extra help. Enter the head collar, with proper conditioning we can teach our dogs to wear them comfortably while training and it allows owners the peace of mind that they will be able to handle their dog if they find themselves in a tough situation. And as you can see by the way Teddy opens his mouth to catch the treat, it most certainly is not a muzzle(not that there is anything wrong with a muzzle when needed). They aren’t necessary for every dog but can be a great training tool when the situation calls for it. #dogtraining #dogsofinstagram #dogtrainer #reactivedog #treatcatching
Taking the rainy/gloomy day down time to work on some skills that we haven’t worked on in quite some time. In the video you see Elvira practicing her sits and downs on verbal cue. To her right is the target stick and to her left is the treat and train that I am using to administer her reward. When given the “touch” cue she is also being given a hand gesture that you cannot see on camera, but what you can see is that there are still a couple of times where she is not quite sure what I am asking, and that’s okay. With time and consistency she’ll be right back to where she was with these skills in no time. Making sure you set time aside each day (minutes) to practice desired behaviors and skills with your pup is crucial to maintaining their training. #dogtraining #minpin #chihuahuasofinstagram #chihuahua #elvira #positivereinforcement
We’re going to take a moment and celebrate with our client, Kasper. He had a blast this past weekend when he experienced snow for the first time, look at him go! #goldenretriever #goldenretrieversofinstagram #puppyinsnow #puppiesofinstagram
