Etá D’Oro Goldens - EtaDoro Golden Retrievers Breeding Golden Retrievers for health, disposition, and intelligence, as well as structural soundness I will post updates to this page. Another has his JH.

NEXT LITTER: Next litter is likely to be sometime in late winter or spring 2023 if all goes according to plan. AKC Breeder of Merit Bronze. Member: Golden Retriever Club of America - Board member, Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club, Lower James River GRC, and Old Dominion Kennel Club. I am a serious hobby breeder of Golden Retrievers, and I run my kennel out of my home in Northern Virginia. My g

oal is to have two litters each year, raised in my home and well socialized by exposure to adults, children, other dogs, and cats. I have had as many as three in the same year due to unusual circumstances, but have had several years with no litters at all. My pups are wonderful companions, and some are being shown successfully in the conformation ring. Two of the pups from my 2012 litter are AKC Grand Champions, and a full sibling from another litter is, as well. All three have suffix titles and have gotten all their medical clearances - hips, elbows, eyes, and hearts have tested normal, and the have extensive genetic testing done. Another is an active gun dog CH with his JH, one is MACH4, and other dogs are working on their CH, one already with his CD and RE. Please feel free to look at the health clearances and titles for Eta D'Oro Goldens dogs and their relatives at the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website, ofa.org, and K9Data.com. Several other pups have gotten multiple agility and obedience titles, their CGC or tricks titles, rally or nosework titles, or are in training for agility, tracking, obedience, or as therapy dogs. A few are active gun dogs. My boys have sired service dogs. For information on my upcoming or most recent litter, please visit my website and fill out the inquiry form: http://etadorogoldens.com/

Oban had a fun and busy Tuesday in Concord, NC. It started with a Select with me handling due to a conflict Natalie had with Juniors. So Cuddy got to go back in the juniors ring while I hobbled around the breed ring with Oban. Next, Natalie took over in Owner Handled Sporting Group, and Oban took OH Sporting Group 1! He looked fantastic in both group and OHBIS, but it was during the group I was most impressed with Natalie’s skill, and with how Oban looked. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera at home, so we are stuck with distant fuzzy phone photos.

In NC Oban also got to meet his daughter Maizey, who was in the BOB ring with him all weekend. That was fun, as was their photo op outside.

Tuesday was a pretty good end to a long specialty weekend!

Cuddy just keeps on keepin’ on! Best Veteran in Specialty Sweeps today out of a lovely group of veterans, followed by Best Veteran in Specialty Show! She’s moving beautifully and fit, really no sign that she’s 12. And I love trying to keep up with her!

Gordie was Best Opposite Veteran in Specialty Sweeps. 😁

Many thanks to the good folks at Tarheel for all your hard work putting this weekend of specialties together!

Cuddy and Gordie are full siblings from different litters.

I like this dog! Obi-Wan, EtaDOro's Jedi Master Of Rainheart at 15 months old on his way to winning his large BBE class at the 2024 GRCA Eastern Regional, breeder judge Helen Dorrance. Would have liked a little better angle and better settings on the camera, but still, a lovely dog. I co-own Obi with Jess Mautone, DVM, and she clearly does a great job conditioning and training him, because he was easy to show!

This is Gordie. Gordie is 9. Gordie took BOB at Tidewater KC of Virginia today under respected breeder judge Gloria Kerr in an impressive group of specials. He’s aging very gracefully. ☺️ I’m so incredibly proud to be his breeder owner handler!

A good day Friday at the GRCA Eastern Regional! And a hot one, for sure! I’m looking forward to the professional photos from this one. Not one of my dogs entered the ring without leaving with a rosette. Many thanks to breeder judge Helen Dorrance and sweeps breeder judge Cindy Price for finding my dogs in those amazing, and sometimes amazingly large, classes.

Obi-wan - Maestro x Islay - at 15 months, he won the large Bred By class! Excellent training from primary owner Jess Mautone made Obi easy to show, even on just his second weekend in the ring with me. It’s always an honor just to be in the ring with all those breeders, and to win the class at a Regional made it particularly special.

Cuddy - Sport x Libby - won her Veterans 12+ class and took second in sweeps. I so enjoyed being able to have her out for best of breed, a huge group of almost 40 😶 dogs. The girl loves a big dog show!

Gordie - Sport x Libby - also loves a big dog show, unless it’s super hot. 😂 Still, he took third in both Veterans 8-10 and sweeps, and then happily went back into his air conditioned van. 🥵

Chani - Maestro x Islay - Unlike her brother, Chani still looks like she’s 15 months old. Nonetheless, she took 2nd in sweeps, and 3rd in an absolutely beautiful BBE class - even with a couple absences, a huge class of 16. I’m really proud of her!

Niki - Frankie x Islay - This was only the second and third time my little F1 driver was in any ring, and, despite a couple moments of puppihood, she took 2nd in both sweeps and regular 6-9 month class. Niki still has a lot of maturing to do, but her placements confirm what I see when I look at her.

Great work done by the GPGRC in planning and executing this one. With almost 200 entered, there were a lot of moving parts, and these folks did it through the heat with a smile.

Please feed food formulated by full time veterinary nutritionists from companies who do feeding trials and believe science should be involved in formulating food for our dogs. This is from a while back, but it’s still a problem. Researchers are still trying to pin down the csuse(s). DCM is real, and it is deadly.

Yesterday we had two wonderful Golden Retrievers, ages 6 and 2, come in for elective surgical procedures. Both dogs had a history of eating a well-known and popular grain free diet for several years. In one dog, an arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) was detected so an x-ray of his chest was taken. His heart was enlarged, so an echocardiogram was scheduled for that afternoon. An x-ray was also taken of the other dog's chest as a precaution, and his heart was also enlarged. He was able to get an echocardiogram same day, as well.

The reports on both dogs just came back, and both of these gorgeous, otherwise perfectly healthy dogs have Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The cardiologist suspects that in both cases it is related to their diet. Thankfully, this condition was caught early, and when fed a traditional diet, their condition should hopefully reverse. Their cases are being reported to the FDA, along with the thousands of others from across the country.

There is no evidence to support feeding grain-free. Most pet allergies are related to environment (pollens, etc) or protein sources. Grain allergies account for a tiny fraction of all food allergies in dogs. Unfortunately, many dogs are becoming very ill or even dying from eating so-called "BEG" diets (boutique, exotic, grain-free), and the terrible thing is nutritionally mediated dilated cardiomyopathy is 100% preventable. There have been zero reported cases of NMDCM in dogs eating foods that meet WSAVA guidelines, currently made by Purina, Hill's, Iams/Eukanuba, or Royal Canin. We strongly suggest if you are feeding a "BEG" diet that you change your dog over to one of the brands listed above. If you have any questions specifically related to your pet, please call us.

We are so hopeful we caught this disease in time for our two beautiful patients to reverse their disease. Their very caring and dedicated owners have already changed their diet to one that meets WSAVA criteria. The articles below will help explain this disease, WSAVA guidelines, and why grain-free was more marketing than science.

Happy 12th birthday to the Flag litter! That’s Cuddy in the yellow collar, still going strong and now a grandmother many times over. Unfortunately, we lost a couple of the pups from this litter over the past few months, as well as mom Libby last fall. But, my first Eta D’Oro litter, these pups will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Earlier this week, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a new rule for the importation of dogs into the United States. The rule, which becomes effective on August 1, 2024, will require all dogs to be at minimum six months of age prior to import into the U.S.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) supports the aims of import regulations that seek to protect pet and public health, including those that seek to protect the United States from reintroduction of DMRVV (canine rabies). However, AKC is disappointed that the new rule is overly broad and disparately impacts purebred dog enthusiasts who import a personal animal or collaborate internationally, or dog event competitors that travel internationally. AKC will continue to share our concerns with CDC, and encourages those who believe they will be impacted negatively by the rule to share concerns with CDC at [email protected]. “

Too bad these boys don’t get along. 😂

This came across my desk reminding me of its existence, and I thought I ought to share it as helpful information. The GRCA, specifically the Health and Genetics committee, is the place to learn what testing is possible and recommended in our breed.

The OFA website and databases provide the tools needed to promote the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease.

NEXT LITTER: Next litter is planned for spring 2020. Member: Golden Retriever Club of America, Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club, and Old Dominion Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club. I am a serious hobby breeder of Golden Retrievers, and I run my kennel out of my home in Northern Virginia. My goal is to have two litters each year, raised in my home and well socialized by exposure to adults, children, other dogs, and cats. I have had as many as three in the same year due to unusual circumstances, but have had several years with no litters at all. My foundation bitch got her GRCA Outstanding Dam certification in 2018, and one of her GCH daughters is on her way to OD with her first qualifying progeny. My GCH boy is siring litters occasionally, and those pups are starting to compete in various disciplines. My pups are wonderful companions, and some are being shown successfully in the conformation ring. Two of the pups from my 2012 litter are AKC Grand Champions. They also have other titles in Rally and Dock Diving. A younger boy is a GCH and has his Rally Advanced title. All three have also gotten all their medical clearances - hips, elbows, eyes, and hearts have tested normal. Please feel free to look at the health clearances for Eta D'oro Goldens dogs and the dogs in their pedigrees at the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals website: http://offa.org.
