Meet Finn! Finn is a five month old Pomeranian puppy whose parents were struggling with potty and crate training. After a week of day training with Kay, they reported only one potty accident, and Finn is now going into his crate on cue! Finn is also doing a fabulous job learning foundational skills like hand targeting, sit, down, recall, and leash walking. We’re excited to be part of this little guys training journey ❤️ #253

This handsome boyo is Bentley! Bentley started training with Kay at 12 weeks old, and while we still have much to work on (he seems to think he os part kangaroo), he has learned some great foundational skills like touch, sit, down, stay, drop, and leave it! Meet Oakley! Oakley came home to his family just a few days ago and he and his family have already had their first training lesson with Kay. It’s important to start training with puppies right away in order to take advantage of their socialization window (which closes at 16 weeks!), help build a trusting bond, and start rewarding positive habits. Puppy lessons with us also means we are there to be your puppy doula! We will help you troubleshoot puppy problems and help you adjust to your new lives as puppy parents. Meet Luna and Winnie! These two young dogs were rescued from neglect by a lovely couple who are also expecting their first baby. While these two are sweet as can be, they have had very little training, and it’s assumed have spent very little time living inside a home. So with a human baby on the way, they have started with our day training program to help them learn the basics of how to live inside, walk on a leash, and other foundational skills. Wrigley is practicing a bunch of behaviors here at a very busy park, and doing a wonderful job! We started with practicing his response to some easy cues (which he prefers to do in the shade🤭), followed by a quick recall for a fun game of tug. I am also introducing the cue ‘drop’ at the end. The ‘drop’ behavior is very easy to teach dogs with this approach. To start, all we do is pair the word ‘drop’ with the delivery of food. The dog learns that when he hears that word, it means food is coming, so he should drop whatever is in their mouth in order to eat the food. To begin with, I repeat this step several times, and I don’t put any pressure on the dog by trying to reach for the toy until they are more focused on me and the food. Luna and Hennessy are two reactive dogs that are soon to become housemates. When Kay first started working with them, they couldn’t see each other from across a football field without a big display of emotions. Now they are learning to relax happily in each other’s presence, in their own front yard. Maggie was previously so anxious and hyper vigilant out in the world that she could barely engage with me. She moved fast only on the way back home. Drooling, lip licking. The anxiety of seeing another dog ended any positive feelings about a walk. She has come so far!! This week she is actually PLAYING out on a walk! And laying down to chew or take a break! No more head on a swivel, she trots to her favorite spots.
