Love getting photos of happy clients and horses. Here is miss crystal and her kiddo enjoying a nice night.
Crystal was a rescue and a bit pushy as she was older and had not been asked to do anything but be a pasture puff. She has come along quite nicely after going to a different trainer first for a whole lot more money and accomplished nothing.
💥 More expensive does not always mean better quality!
💥 Trainers, please charge accordingly and be sure you can follow through or you're only hurting the horse.

❤️Here at JT the horse is ALWAYS more important than money or status quo! ❤️

If you feel your upper body leaning to the right, I PROMISE it’s because your hips have slid to the left.
PLEASE step into your RIGHT stirrup!!!!
I know some instructors tell people to step into the left stirrup, and that does straighten things up, but it doesn’t fix the off-centeredness!!!!

This is Louie at his finest. Maybe saddle pinch maybe a little sore maybe just trying to get my son to back off. Whatever the reason it doesn’t phase my son too much.
However, if a pony he’s riding does this same thing, it’ll scare him.
You see he’s rode Louie a long time and knows his quirks. So he can push through them. The ponies are new and no one knows quirks and what to watch out for and what to ignore.
Most people who have rode a horse for any length of time, regardless of what they do with them, are like he and Louie.
It’s a bit nerve wracking when we climb aboard a new horse or c**t.

You must spend time getting to know the horse and what their dislikes and likes are. Start with groundwork and move up.
Every horse has its quirks just like every person. To make a good relationship you must figure out their personalities, and what is normal behavior and what isn’t. You can try to eliminate the quirks, and sometimes you can,. But more times than not you just have to deal with certain things.

A good example is a new car. When you first get it you’re just feeling it out. Listening to the noises, feeling the steering wheel, how accessible the radio is(😳😂), the acceleration and braking, and so on. After awhile you know what are normal feels and sounds and you don’t get to worried. But as soon as there is a new sound you immediately pick up on it…….welcome to buying a new or horse or climbing on a c**t…….

If you want to make progress as a horseman, you have to hold yourself accountable.
An instructor can tell you to open your left rein, but only you can actually open your left rein! I can tell you to step right. I can tell you to step right more, or reword it until you do it enough that your right seat bone drops down where it belongs. I can remind you to do it every 30 seconds. I can remind you again every time we change directions, or change gaits, or after your horse tripped. But none of my riders take a lesson with me every day! At some point you have to remember it and execute it all on your own. And isn’t that the type of rider you want to be???
I mean, When you are doing a dressage test, I can’t remind you to sit back in the corner or to not over bend the neck in the shoulder in.

The only time I am the head trainer is when I am instructing myself. Otherwise, I am always the assistant instructor and YOU, THE RIDER, HAVE to be your own master. I am merely the Layman who tells you where we are at in this project, and what step needs to happen next. You are the lead contractor who needs to make sure it gets done. (I know enough people who have major projects going on at their facility that maybe this is a really bad example! Lol but you get my drift hopefully)

I’m not sure how I made it through the levels as far as I did knowing how long it took me to get accountable on actually keeping my inside rein open 🤦‍♀️. Now I’ve realized how often I, just for a moment, open my outside rein when I’m supposed to be using my inside leg. I’m NOT letting this habit go on for years. I’m not. I’m not. I’m not working on anything else until I’m so consciously competent when I do allow my subconscious to take over, it sticks! Even then, I’ll be checking in regularly.

I had an adult student say that she’s always ride with puppy paws/piano hands (thumbs turned in, fingernails posted down) and “good luck changing it”. My tone was light hearted, because that’s who I am, but I basically told her that if she can’t hold herself accountable for something so easy to fix, get off the horse- why bother! It helped that I gave her the REASONS why it was important- it isn’t just to be pretty. But fixing it was hard for her because it’s so tough to turn her wrist- it was “hard” because it took focus.
Put in the focus. Hold yourself accountable.

Regrettably so, I haven't had a lesson in a while. Between it being hard to find a GOOD trainer in my area after moving, to dedicating my time to my clients more, I hadn't invested in me. Well I finally did and I'm so glad I took my time and found one that shares my principles, but also fixes my mistakes. Good trainers are able to suggest small adjustments and get big results. I had developed a habit with my mare as a result of her panicking, stemming from her feet being off, story for another day. I kept not working her or riding her like a piece of glass and not doing the simple things I tell my clients daily. I also tell them that I too, baby my own horse. We are all human! Though I never had before her, why now? I've gotten older, less confident, second guessing my own ways. I did realize all this and started making little changes lunging and walking and trotting. It was still sticky at the canter. Well after my lesson yesterday, I was motivated to fix these little things I knew not to do, but like us all, emotions overran my clarity. Today we had the most relaxed easy ride through times, just yesterday, were less than perfect. Focusing on adjusting a couple little things and the problem is solved. Now to just keep practicing!

Some things to remember when getting a lesson:
1. Be ready to ride at lesson time!! Respect their time and make the most of it.
2. Good trainers are always trying to help and though you feel like you're doing something, you're paying for their eye and if they say you are doing something else, TRUST THEM! Shake it off and try again.
3. Listen and be open to change. That is why you asked for the help of a trainer after all, isn't it?
Most importantly, HAVE FUN! ❤️😊

Haven't posted anything on Crystal here, but she was a rescue who was pretty pushy and we were unsure of her history. She's not young so she's had some time around the sun, and had developed some bad habits. I travel to this one so she's a once a week client. We have been working on ground work and desensitizing for a few months now and it was time. She gave me not much to go on as far as being ridden before so ground driving to develop steering and brakes were essential as well before sitting on her. She didn't care much about the saddle or sitting on her, however no steering and brakes led me to believe not much was done with her.
This is her official first ride and it was uneventful with some great steering and brakes once we figured out how to go forward.

To be good at riding, you have to be more dedicated to rewiring your self destructive habits and thought loops than comfort , and you have to stick to it with a ferocity that you haven’t known before. You have to love yourself enough to refuse to allow yourself to be sucked back into what you know doesn’t serve you.

Thriller adventured out of the ring today and went right over the bridge. This video was after I knew he would go over it, but still a very good first time out of the ring after only 3.5 weeks under saddle. He heads home in a few days, who's taking his spot?? We have a spot open as soon as May! Grab it while you can.

Side note: I've been working with Thriller and groundwork for 2 years. That is why this is all so easy, may not happen as fast for all.

Well thriller man has been doing so well that we tried the next next gear and I'm happy to say he did not "buck n gonuts" 🤣🤣
Not that I ever expected him to and is why I do the prep we do. Despite popular belief, bucking should not be part of the firsts.
Another good one from Horseplay Apparel

I am excited to share my passion with ya’ll and help you and/or your horse achieve your goals. Whether you are wanting that perfect show horse or just a trail companion I am the gal for you. Specializing in hunters, I am more then capable and willing to help in any discipline. I have many years riding, training, and showing everything from english/western pleasure, hunters, gymkhana, dressage, driving, and even a little trick training.

I also have a passion for teaching. It is my pleasure to help any age or riding level work towards the next level. I specialize in building confidence for both horse and rider in or outside the show arena.
