Otis (left) is enthusiastic about everything life has to offer, and he loves tracking scents as much as he loves relaxing on the couch.

Georgie (right) is sweet, friendly, and eager to please. Her favorite activity is swimming, and true to her breed, she's a talented "pointer." 👉

What is the microbiome?

The microbiome is composed of all the bacteria, fungi, and other tiny microbes that live in and on our pets. Your pet has a unique collection of hundreds of different types of single-celled microorganisms (bacteria, fungi and other microbes) in their digestive tract, referred to as the gut microbiome.

Why is a healthy gut so important for your pet?

Beneficial gut bacteria are crucial for digestion and obtaining nutrients from the food your pet eats. From weight to mental health, the bacterial community within the gut affects almost every aspect of your pet’s health and happiness. When your pet’s gut bacteria is out of balance or they’re missing key beneficial bacteria for a healthy gut, numerous digestive or skin conditions may arise. Our Story

Our founder Holly Ganz, PhD is a microbial ecologist who studied how microbes and mammals interact. After creating KittyBiome in 2015, Holly realized that digestive disorders are common in cats and dogs and that the gut microbiome plays an important role in some of these conditions. And so she founded AnimalBiome in 2016 in order to create better diagnostics and therapeutics for cats and dogs. Holly received her PhD from University of California, Davis and conducted research at University California of Berkeley, University of California San Diego, the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and the University of California, Davis Genome Center.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, AnimalBiome advances pet health through microbiome research and products. We are a team of scientists who are passionate about pets, and use revolutionary science to improve pet health.
