Sitges Community, our poor old cat once again needs our help. He is currently at the veterinary clinic with some injuries and wounds. He is too old and too frail to return to the streets.
Can someone please offer him a safe space to recover and ideally, live out his time left on earth? He deserves safety and love.
Please share and let’s give him the best wishes for recovery 🙏🏻💙
These are the posts that I struggle with.
If you know me, you will know that rarely I express anger but rather most often, my reaction to situations such as this is sadness. But today, I am both angry and heartbroken.
This beautiful cat, a gentle, old soul belongs to one of our cat colonies in Can Pei. For 15 years, he was able to survive on the streets. He was fed and given water. But he never got to experience human touch. No pets. No cuddles. No warm bed. No safe space to sleep. But for 15 years, he somehow survived. And then 3 days ago, some human allowed their dogs off leash and the dogs attacked the cat colony without warning. Our gentle, senior cat, was mauled. According to witnesses, the cat was able to limp away from the scene but we have looked everywhere and cannot find him. At this point, we assume he is dead. He survived 15 years, only to die alone, in pain. My heart hurts.
Let me be clear.
1. There is a leash law in Sitges. Is it enforced? Rarely. But it’s on the books.
2. There is also a law on the books that protects these innocent cats. Again, rarely enforced but it’s law.
A senseless act of violence.
When folks come at me for our cat feeders being over protective of the cats, this is why.
When folks come at me about dogs being scolded for being off leash, this is why.
Humans think it’s funny that their dogs chase the cats. The dogs scare them up trees.
I mean, they’re just street cats, right? 😒
In the last 2 months, we have paid to have 3 terrified cats rescued from trees after dogs chased them. Dogs being walked off leash, with their owner watching it all happen.
Did the dog owners pay for the gardeners ladder and time?
Nope, we did. Us.
The “crazy” cat people.
So come at me with your bu****it excuses of why dogs are better and more deserving than cats.
And I’ll shut you down every time.
Both species deserve our respect and compassion.
“But the street cats p**p in our gardens…”
If you don’t want street cats, donate to our sterilization campaign so we can control the population the right way.
Ask the city to give us money for sterilization certificates at the vet clinics.
Educate people on the importance of sterilizing their pet cats.
Raise awareness to the epidemic number of abandoned animals in our community.
Do something!!
But please don’t come at me with your excuses for a tragic situation like this, whilst you are not offering us any help.
Do not even.
And finally, if someone does find the body of this poor old cat, please message me privately so I can spare the heartbroken volunteers.
They carry a heavy enough burden.
And if anyone knows who the two dogs might belong to, please alert me privately as well.
I will post a photo in the comments of what the dogs looked like. The photo is for reference only.
Do better humanity.
Do better 💔
