The Matron's heart has been heavy with the weight of so many losses this year.

A friend reached out with a pic of the Jellicle Cats she adopted, and offered the Matron this thought:

"I know the losses are so painful they shadow the wins, but you do have more wins than losses."

That's how today's roll call got started. So many adopters send frequent updates and pics of their Jellicle Cats, and the Matron wanted to brighten the Jellicle Cats social media with those wins - since all you guys have seen lately is the losses.

We are not done; we have more pics to share tomorrow,

Also, the Matron's dad always says:

Thank you for being Brandy's friend.

💜

We really couldn't do any of this without you.

Thank you for supporting us. 💜

We were very careful with this placement because we didn't know how Tuna would feel about having a brother. So we did a foster to adopt with lots of check ins - as you can see, Tuna approves. 💜💜

Poor Toulouse and his poor foster momma.

Thank you for loving him, Kristina.

He will be waiting for you at the 🌈 bridge.

Poor Toulouse is at LBAE. We are doing some labs to find out what's wrong with our sweet orange boy.

Toulouse was born in the backyard of a good samaritan who rescued him and his brothers, kept their momma, and has been fostering them as adoptable
Jellicle Cats.

The workup will be close to $650; can you help us?

I pulled him from east valley shelter on my cousin Rhiannon's birthday. It was also the day of her celebration of life. I couldn't be there.

I fell in love with his face on social; I wasn't trying to rescue him, I was trying to network him. We all know how that goes.

Well, this one is for you, Cousin, I thought as I pulled into the shelter parking lot. She loved black cats, so I thought it was fitting.

The shelter had him vetted to remove polyps from his ear. They also treated him for fleas which probably caused the hair loss. His name was midnight and he was an owner surrender due to medical.

He played with the toys I left in his carrier on the hourlong drive home.

He was the happiest, funniest, messiest boi.

I took him to the best friends adoption event last year and proudly proclaimed him to be the most charming and least adoptable cat at the whole event. We still needed to arrange his surgery (like the one Bob had) on his ear because the polyps kept growing back and he was prone to ear infections.

He was such a joy. He loved to be up on my shoulders while I went about the chores - which was painful because he would not let me trim his nails.

He would chatter at me, fall over at my feet, give me his belly.

His belly, which would end up filled with the sticky yellow fluid that is the hallmark of FIP and forced us into an early goodbye early this morning.💔

I used to take him to adoptions, intending to cover his medical if someone wanted to take him home. He charmed many, with his outgoing personality and his messy pigpen ways in his kennel. But nobody ever even filled out an application for this joyful strange boy.

In the end, he already had a home; he was my cat.

The FIP hit him seemingly overnight - I am still reeling at how quickly we went from shoulder sitting to jaundiced and cold.

He never answered to Midnight, so I called him Noche; and since he was naughty, he was often "No, Noche!"

But his secret name, because of the head tilt and the lack of balance and grace, was Mr. Wibbles.

I love you, Noche, NoNoche, Midnight, Mr. Wibbles. Thank you for being my cat.

... and just like that, Noche, my little weirdo, is gone.

It was FIP, and it hit him fast. He was too far gone tonight to even think about treatment.

I'll do a proper goodbye tomorrow; for now, I'm disconsolate and need a glass of wine and a good cry.

Today I lost another piece of my heart.

11 years and 2 weeks ago, I grabbed a smol black void from my backyard.

I called her Emily the Strange, which was either a self fulfilling prophecy or divine inspiration- because she was very strange indeed. She almost got adopted once, but she made it clear she was my cat.

She developed labored breathing over the last couple days. Today she saw Dr Jacobo at Primary and she had fluid in her chest. There was nothing we could do but let her cross the bridge.

I have a carton of eggs in my fridge, bought for her. She was sick earlier this year and I was cooking all kinds of things for her, and discovered that she liked the yolks of sunny side up eggs. So even when she was better I would make her an egg on Saturday mornings - she would come when she heard the frying pan get placed on the stove, and nag me until she got her yolk, while the hounds shared the white part.

Tonight they are getting the whole egg, even the yolk.

After 11 years, she leaves a very big hole here in the Manor.

Fly free, lemmy strange, lemilemily, my strange little girl. Thank you for being my cat. Momma loves you.

I'll see you over the bridge. 🌈 💔

This is Tux!

When we offered to help his finders get him adopted, we told them that we had no room at the Manor and couldn't take him in, but we could host him in the adoption center for a rotation of 3 weeks in, 3 weeks out.

However, they dipped on taking him home for his break from the adoption center and abandoned him with us.

Sigh. No good deed goes unpunished.

So now he's kenneled at Jellicle Manor, until he goes back in to the adoption center.

He is a total love, great with people, but can be extremely surly with other cats. Not all other cats, but some. We can't figure out his preferences - so it's best if he is an only kitty.

He's chatty and friendly and playful and would love a home to call his own!

PM for an application and to schedule a meet and greet with this muppet!

Almost a decade ago, I was with my friend Jessica, training new volunteers how to trap a momma, using kittens as bait. We were in an alley near Jellicle Manor in the wee hours of the morning.

Maple wasn't cooperative, but we got her, and all four of her babies.

She was feral, and slated for TNR - but she and her babies had been living down by the park, with lots of coyote activity. So I kept her here at the Manor, as a house feral.

She was always in the middle of any cuddle puddle; a great surrogate momma to many foster kittens and always welcoming to any new adult kitties who came our way.

I never once in all of these years got to hold her, until this morning, when I said goodbye.

She appeared to have either thrown a clot or had a stroke; the only thing I could do for her was let her go.

I held her and told her she mattered; thanked her for being such a good momma and comfort to so many.

I am grateful that I was able to provide her safety for all of these years; ferals outside have a very short life span.

I also promised her I would take great care of Toodles, the only one of her kittens who was never permanently adopted (he was returned twice; he's mine now).

I love you, Maple. Thank you for being my cat.
