Frost
Our fluffy handsome boy was adopted after we did the home check to make sure that he and the dog of the house (Jack Daniel’s) were a good match.
He is going to go on a lot of adventures with his wonderful parents and his BIG, goofy brother and may eventually move to Flagstaff.
It was hard to say goodbye to such a social, friendly and affectionate dog, but he scored a great family and is going to be loved and spoiled forever 💜
Look at how tiny he looks compared with his brother 🤣

Uh oh! Mj made a boo-boo in the rush of assigning gender as the puppies were being born. She thought we had 5 boys and 5 girls….
Turns out that when assigning the chosen names to the gender today she discovered that we have 6 males and 4 females 🤣
Thank you for the massive response providing possible names. It took a couple of days to go through all of them and select the ones most voted that we have not used before.
If your name is one of the chosen ones, please consider sending a donation.

Hailey is a doll baby that is looking for her forever home.
She has shorty legs like a basset hound, mixed with a bulldog. She has medium energy, loves everyone and is about 4 months old. Crate trained, potty trained, and good with dogs and cats.

Mama Ellie was not very thrilled when her 10 puppies were removed from the whelping pen to clean up and weigh them.
Keeping track of the weight is crucial, especially at the beginning to make sure everyone is growing and to allow the smallest ones to have extra nursing time to catch up.
We have 5 males and 5 females and they need names!!
We want names that start with the letter E, following our tradition of keeping the same letter for the litter.
We will not use names that have been already used for other dogs, so don’t be offended if yours is not selected.
If your name does get selected we ask you to send a small donation to the rescue (no amount is too small and every penny helps)

We asked Ellie to keep the babies inside until we finish the treatment of her intestinal parasites and kennel cough and until she puts some weight on.
She just ate a bowl of kibble mixed with rotisserie chicken, so we think no babies today!

Welcome Harriet to the rescue.
This little lady found herself with a homeless person who gave her to a family. The family couldn’t keep her due to her puppy sharp teeth and nails scratching their 94 year old family member. So they went to a store to hand her off to anyone that would take her. Luckily, a couple of Good Samaritans took her home knowing they needed to find a rescue for her. And voila, she is safe with us. 💛
We believe her to be Brussels Griffon mix and will stay on the small side.

Woohoo…two adoptions!
Elmer and Lucy Lulu
Both of these dogs are so deserving of their very own families.
Remember Elmer found himself at a small shelter where dogs are sadly euthanized for space and Lucy Lulu was seen being dumped out of a car at a park. We wish these pups the very best lives!

Meet Henny and Hailey.
They were found at a park about a month ago. Puppy dumping is becoming much more common as backyard breeders, who don’t care about the dogs they breed, discard the puppies that don’t sell.
Thankfully a loving person found them and got them vet care until they could find a rescue that could intake the pups.
Welcome to the Sunshine family girls!

Elmer is such a nice dog!
He is 8-9 months old about 35 pounds and so deserves to have his own family!!
He is very sweet, happy and easygoing. He gets along well with other dogs (small and big) and with cats. He is fully vetted, walks well on leash, is potty trained, crate trained and LOVES people!
Please let us know if you would like to meet him.

We helped vaccinate these homeless dogs so that they can get into the shelter with their owners.
The rabies will be done at the clinic and will also be covered by the rescue.
They got collars/harnesses and a toy 🙂 too!
Their owners obviously love them and will do whatever they need to do to keep them. They really appreciated all the help.
Thank you Charles for bequeathing funds to us to help!

Talita was rescued from The Humane Society of Yuma on 2/27/24.

The beginning of our time together was difficult as she was not used to human touch/interactions and she had never lived in a house and was not used to being restricted in a room (no matter how big).

So, yes, she broke many things in the house, knocked down furniture, emptied the shelves of whatever was stored there and flooded the guesthouse a couple of times.
We were worried about the safety of her puppies with all the destructive behavior and decided to use a crate when not under direct supervision… but
the multiple attempts to contain her in a crate failed as she broke and got out of the regular ones several times and when we used a heavy duty one from where she could not escape, she inflected wounds to her face in her desperate attempt to break free.

We felt defeated and as desperate to control the situation as she was to be free. We did not seem to be able to meet her needs and looked as if we were unable to find a way out.

We then decided to leave the door of the guesthouse open to give her a sense of freedom. That was the beginning of a new relationship between us and also the beginning of drastic changes in her behavior.
No more destruction since then.

Fast forward to today, she is totally able to be in her crate when left alone and where I find her peacefully resting many times during the day, although the gate is open and she could go anywhere.

We have learned so much from her and we love her so much that we really want to find a very special family who gives her the life she deserves.

She is about 50 lbs, gorgeous looking, fully vetted, crate trained and potty trained. She is timid and will need a few meet&greets to be able to feel comfortable enough to show her sweet personality.
She is AMAZING with other dogs and is our greeter to welcome other fosters and help them to relax and acclimate. She is the star in our home playgroups and we can trust she is going to moderate the game so that everybody is cool 😎.

Welcome Lucy Lulu to the rescue!
Lucy LuLu was found at a park and no owners ever came forward. Her finder got her to safety with a relative (Anna) who then reached out to us for help. Thank you Anna for fostering her until we find her a wonderful home.
I met LLL and she is not only gorgeous but what a sweetie! Super social, friendly girl with medium puppy energy. We estimate her to be 6-7 months old and a setter/springer spaniel mix.
She will get fully vetted and then be available for adoption.

Thank you for sharing our sweet girl!
Smiley
Her family had adopted another dog, Keegan/Olive, who unfortunately passed away despite of all the efforts to save her and they felt ready to give another rescue the wonderful life Keegan/Olive had.
Smiley (now Mala) is going to live a life full of love and adventures with her wonderful parents and her 2 furry siblings (big brother Hank and old and wise brother Thor).

Nestor
He is the last of the puppies left in a box at a construction site to get adopted but he is certainly going to have a very happy life. This affectionate and playful boy was “love at first sight” and his mom was super excited to bring him home.
He is going to live with 8 cats that his wonderful mom has rescued and is going to have plenty of play dates with other family dogs !!

Smiley has not received any adoption applications despite being one of the most amazing dogs we have had in a long time. She is 7-8 months old and we really don’t want her to grow up in a foster home because she deserves to have her own family!!
She is petite (32lbs), very affectionate and easygoing. She gets along well with other dogs (small and big) and with cats.
She is fully vetted, walks well on leash, is potty trained, crate trained and LOVES people!

Guys!!
Joey has been 😃
Remember Joey was adopted June 2023 and came back to us April 1, 2024. Sadly, his adopter passed away.
Joey was understandably confused and anxious with the changes in his life. With patience and guidance, Joey grew more confident and met lots of new people. He loved women but took a bit to warm up to men. His adopter, Patrick, gave him time to sniff and become acquainted with him before engaging him. It was a match right away.
So long Joey, have a with your new family 💛

Two absolutely adorable pups available for adoption. Nestor is almost 12 weeks old and Smiley is about 7-8 months old.
Both are very social, friendly and outgoing, get along great with other dogs and are respectful of the cats. They are potty trained, crate trained, UTD on vaccinations and altered.

Never formally introduced Elmer and Eloise!

They came to us from Santa Cruz Shelter which is very limited on space. Thankfully, we had space for these pups and they have a second chance.
Sadly, many dogs don’t make it out of small rural shelters because we (society) are failing dogs. We breed too many and they have nowhere to go.
Elmer and Eloise are approximately 8 months old and are quickly learning how to be social dogs. I believe they lived in a yard with minimal human contact. They are a bit skittish but I also see that they love people and want to trust us. They are not quite adoptable yet as we want them to settle in, gain some manners and learn from our pack of dogs.

Neville -
The adoption of this sweet and timid boy is very special because his family is also very special to us. Yes, we are talking about the wonderful family who adopted our very fearful Mendy (now Melody)!!
Their level of commitment to her allowed our dream to happen (to find Mendy a home) and with them she has blossomed and she looks very well adjusted and happy 💜
They have been thinking that they were ready to bring her a playmate and companion, so when they inquired about this little rascal we could not be any happier. We coordinated a play date and he is now officially adopted.
In addition to his wonderful parents and sweet sister he is going to grow up with two very nice cats!

Our little Razzle is thriving! and have had a crash course in Megaesophagus and are doing a fantastic job managing Razzle’s symptoms. He would love a home of his own if you or someone you know has time for our special guy. He is happy, playful, and LOVES everyone. His special needs include eating a special diet prepared into meatballs and hand fed twice a day in his Bailey Chair, wearing a neck hug (pillow) at night to prevent saliva from pooling in his esophagus and wearing a harness instead of a collar. He does take one medicine daily to help his esophagus get food into his stomach.
We will supply everything Razzle needs to support his transition into a forever home. (Chair, neck hug, food and medicine for the first couple of months, and guidance on how to meet Razzle’s special needs)
Also, Razzle is in a calendar contest and is currently in 15th place out of 267 entries! He needs to be in the top 12 to win. We have thousands of followers and voting couldn’t be easier. Click on the link and then click on the heart. No name or email needed.

This is a very sad story 💔

Toronto is one of the 16 puppies from Concho that we rescued 2 years ago and Frost is one of the 5 husky puppies living outside in the heat that we rescued a year ago.

We were very happy when the family who adopted Toronto contacted us last year about adopting Frost.
Everything was great and the updates provided by the family never prepared us for the sad situation we had today, when they were both returned 💔💔💔
The family situation had changed and a relative who is allergic to dogs was moving in long term, so they felt they had no choice 💔💔💔💔

It was obvious that they were loved. They brought their crates, blankets, treats, food and toys and said they would send donations to the rescue to help with their care.

We appreciate all of that, but these poor dogs who have not known another family (except us for a brief time) are now facing a very sad situation.
They are no longer the cute puppies they adopted, they are both big and would be very hard to adopt them together.

They were good with other dogs and cats when they were with us before, but will need to see if that has changed since they were adopted.

We feel very sad and very discouraged.
It seems that nothing is guaranteed in rescue and that if you are a responsible rescue, you are never off the 🪝, and expected to take care of everybody even years later 🥲
Of course this is better than having them surrendered to an overcrowded shelter and we are going to take care of them until we find them a new family/families.

Toronto and Frost are going to start all over again in the same placed their journey started 2 years ago for Toronto and 1 year ago for Frost, MJ’s guesthouse.
Thank you Mj for always being there for the dogs and people too! 💛
