🐾 Meet Artemis! 🐾 This sweet puppy has joined us for her journey as a puppy prospect for service dog work. To start, we are laying the crucial foundation that will help her become the best, most supportive dog she can be. 💪🐕‍🦺

Artemis is enrolled in two of our Fast Track Fido Programs:
✨ Positive Start: This program focuses on building solid obedience and manners foundations using reward-based training to set her up for success. Allowing her to learn all that is expected of her in a loving and nurturing way.

✨ Leash Language: This program focuses on teaching her how to understand leash pressure as a language and use this tactile communication to guide her. This will ensure she knows what’s needed from her and will hold her accountable to concepts she’s already learned in the prior program.

✨ Big shoutout to Krista and her rockstar pup, River! Today, they tackled the foundations for send aways, recalls, and distance positions (Sit/Down) from over 100 ft away on a slope—and absolutely crushed it! 🐕‍🦺💪

But why is this type of training so important? Imagine this: You’re out on a trail, and suddenly there’s something dangerous between you and your dog—like a rattlesnake, an ATV flying by out of nowhere, or possibly an aggressive animal. You can’t safely call them back, but with an emergency distance down, you give the command and they immediately stop and lie down, keeping them safe right where they are. No need to worry about them running into danger when you’re not close enough to physically control the situation. 💖

These commands are life-saving in real-world scenarios. Whether it’s stopping your dog in their tracks when you can’t reach them, recalling them to you, or sending them to a safe spot during an emergency, it’s all about safety and control.

The first time I saw someone do this I was shocked.
I thought it was a one off, clearly it isn't and social media "influencers" have started to spout this as a "solution".
When I first saw this a few years ago, I could see the skin under the belly twisting and stretching while a lead was tightly pulled up from above.
There was bruising and this dog was certainly in pain.
All because someone wanted a quick way to teach a dog to walk beside them.
Companies even sell carabiners that encourage using this method.
What people may not realise is this can kill a dog.
The belly is not well protected...at all.
The intestines are right there and there are no bones in that area to protect those precious and vital organs.
That constant pressure and squeezing can and DOES cause serious abdominal issues.
PLEASE don't be tempted to follow this trend if you have seen it on social media.
