Although it was a small show, this male and I enjoyed the Anderson Poultry club show yesterday.
He was the daddy to most of the 2024 buff and will be the daddy for most of 2025 as well.

The Breda fowl have started laying . I’ll be doing fertility checks and once I have confirmed I will be letting go of some eggs.
Blue, black, cuckoo.
If you would like to get on my list, this is the only breed I waitlist so please message me.
THESE ARE NOT SILKIES. I have no plans to sell silkie eggs in 2025.

I’ve been pretty bummed with the birds this fall and winter and I’m searching for some joy in them. I love rearing them. But the loss with the hurricane and birds going missing have really put me behind. My motivation for show season has been crushed. Maybe when spring hits and my birds pickup laying I’ll feel a little more optimistic.
Below is a beautiful blue Breda cockerel I was recently lucky to add to the flock due to some really amazing help. Thank you Candace, Rachel, Roberta, Amanda, and Robbie who bent over backwards to get this boy to me.

Hi everyone!
I hope everyone is finished with winterizing! Last night my kitchen counter was covered in poultry waterers. Here’s what I do!

Ni**le waterers in 2 gallon buckets. It takes some time for them to freeze and the ni***es don’t drip water unless the birds are pecking or they are damaged/clogged,

Electrolytes. I started doing this 2 winters ago and it makes the freezing process slower. You want electrolytes with salt. It also helps the birds stay hydrated! They work best if put into warm water.

You can add extra protein and calories to their feed. Corn helps birds stay warm, and grubs and mealworms do too. Unless your bird is in the regrowing stage of molt, don’t worry about corn turning them yellow.

Use plastic sheeting to wrap your coops. I sometimes use the target shower curtains, they are usually $2.99. On my large fowl coop they have 3 solid walls and the east wall is hardware cloth. We stapled plastic sheeting on that east wall but left a foot open at the top for ventilation. The birds are out of the draft that way, and little to no snow or rain will ever get in. It retains enough heat that their water rarely freezes.

Hi folks,
I just want to remind you all I don’t have time or energy especially in winter to take individual pictures of chicks. If my birds aren’t good enough for you please look elsewhere. I am very transparent about the quality of my chicks and if they are pet quality or have potential to become a breeder or show bird.
None of my chickens are hatchery stock. They are all exhibition bloodlines and I breed as close to standard as possible. If you need an example of my breeders, please go to their respective albums on this page. I am more than happy to talk about the chicks and if I already have a picture I’ll share one.
I have a large, DEEP GQF brooder. It is several feet deep and stands 7 feet tall, in 4 tiers. The babies are outside in this brooder and they cuddle in the back under the heater. It is hard to go out in the dark after work and have to sort through 30 chicks just for a picture and then you leave me on read.

A wonderful day at the Appalachian Bantam club!
What a pleasant surprise today! I pulled my show string out of breeding pens this fall due to losing all my show birds in the chaos following the hurricane. No one is conditioned and I really don’t go expecting to place. Seeing chicken peers, and winning Res. Champion FL was a really nice day!
One of my show birds found a new home with a junior today too. I hope she can become a pro!
