I do believe the last of the 2025 eggs have been laid. A have a few broodies being broken and no eggs in about a week. We are about to launch into a new hatching season in just a few weeks, and I hope everyone’s pens are setup just right. Do you have your backup boys already? Spare hens? Within the new week I’ll be stripping pens, finishing weatherproofing for January misery, and making final decisions on breeding pairs and groups.
I made a bearded black Nn cockerel this year to cover my black hens in hopes of having a higher fertility rate in 2026.
I lost my buff bearded NN pullet this year and Nik at swankysilkies has fixed me up in that department. She is my favorite source for gigantic beards on showgirls.
I still have to let my young mottled split male grow up a bit but until then I have my blue mottled male over my black mottled girls.
Breda will have some beautiful blues, splash, and black this year with a 2nd generation and 3rd generation outcross with the La Fleche breed(and all the birds that are from that outcross are within standard for Breda, but maybe lacking a few foot feathers!) this is a very diverse group!
Still working on my plans for the salmon Faverolle bantams. They are breeding machines so I suppose I still have time. If anyone has an unrelated frizzle or smooth male, I’m happy to trade to sweeten the deal!

We lost a member of the silkie breed today. Elizabeth(Liz) Rodriquez of Burlesque Poultry has lost her battle to cancer after just being diagnosed a few short months ago. While not everyone had the best experiences with her transports, I’m sure everyone can remember she was human, as we all are. She left behind a young daughter. Everyone raise up some prayers for Liz, her close friends, and family.
