Johnny is a TV watcher, is your dog a tv watcher?

We are conducting a new study, “Characterizing TV Watching in Dogs!” For this study, we will be evaluating how often dogs watch TV, as well as what temperament characteristics are linked to TV watching in dogs. Participation in this study will include the completion of an anonymous, online survey. The survey is expected to take 30 minutes to complete.

More good advice on respiratory disease from a holistic veterinarian that fits right with what I shared in my newsletter - there is good information out there folks!

First of all....Thank you all for the kind and wonderful birthday wishes! I appreciated and felt all of the love! It was a lovely sunny day in the Pacific Northwest and I enjoyed every minute of it.

On a second note: I had posted last week about medicinal mushrooms to help boost our dogs immune systems in light of the unusual canine respiratory virus that has been going around. FB seems to have throddled that post (you can go back on my timeline to read it) and it has had very little exposure. I do not completely understand the FB algorithm and find it frustrating. Anyway, since then, I have continued to have more clients concerned, so I wrote up another post.

Canine Respiratory Disease Concerns:

I have been fielding many concerns from clients who are worried about the respiratory disease that appears to be circulating in the canine community. As of now, they have not determined the underlying cause of the illness. It appears to be viral in nature based on the current information that we have. Dogs are developing discharge from the eyes and nose, sneezing a cough that is persistent. In some dogs the disease is progressing deeper into the lungs and causing pneumonia and more severe disease.
One thing that I have heard from my people is that general veterinarians are recommending to get boosted with all of the vaccines to make sure they are protected. I don’t agree with this approach. If the disease that was circulating had a vaccine, it would make sense to get this particular vaccine. Challenging your dogs with a number of vaccines that they may not need is not a way to strengthen their immune system.
My approach would be to use common sense and avoid high traffic, high density dog areas like dog parks, boarding kennels, training classes, dog sports and groomers. At least until the hysteria has died down a little bit.
Remember what Pasteur said – the pathogen is nothing, the terrain is everything. Support your pet's terrain making it a healthy environment and less likely to succumb to an infectious disease. Start with whole, real food diets and nourish your pet on a deeper level. Build immunity with medicinal mushrooms and antioxidants so that if exposed to the disease they have the best chance at fighting it off or minimizing illness. Act quickly if your dogs starts having respiratory signs to keep them isolated from other dogs and give them appropriate support guided by a veterinarian versed in holistic modalities. Many pets can get through illness without relying on antibiotics or other suppressive treatments. Herbal medicine has been dealing with disease epidemics for thousands of years and when utilized appropriately can be lifesaving.

This is an important issue. We know how high cancer rates are in dogs, and all research matters whether it’s for people or pets. Only 7-9% of funding goes to cancer PREVENTION (there’s no profit in it). Research is proving what many have said, that exposure to cancer causing chemicals can influence cancer rates in future generations (so if any breeders are reading this… you must pay attention). I WILL be available to assist you via Zoom to offer advice, answer questions, and provide custom flower essence formulas.

This is the time of year when I let folks know I'll be in New Hampshire, and not available in-person in San Diego, but it's likely that this hiatus will continue after I return, as I consider how best to share my skills.

It’s 4:30, usually the dogs are restlessly anticipating dinner about now but they’re both still power napping. 😂

When you’re young and athletic, and it’s almost dinner time… but you’re “sound stoned” from attending a human’s two-hour Vibrational Sound Healing session earlier in the day so you just stay in your chair napping. We’re a very relaxed household this afternoon!

If I’d thought it through better on this hot day I would’ve made a concentrated batch of this skin rinse and then added cold water to it 😆. It’s gonna be a long wait for this to cool off so I can give Kestrel a good soak for her irritated skin. So there’s a tip for everyone! 👍😁 Today’s recipe is neem, calendula, lavender, and chaparral, with "soap nuts" to help give a little cleaning action.

I love it when I learn something new about dogs!

“…in horses, castration results in a dramatic drop in testosterone levels. In dogs, the adult male's testosterone levels are not particularly high, so castration in an adult dog is not an equivalent to turning a stallion into a gelding. Dunbar's work on this is not news: "At 18 weeks, male puppies have twice the testosterone of adult male dogs, eventually peaking at 10 months of age with 5–7 times more testosterone than adult males, before testosterone descents to adult dog levels by 18 months of age, i.e., adolescent males smell hyper-male. Hence adult dogs, especially males, can identify possible threats to pack harmony and calmly deal with them before they become a real threat." My dogs enjoy vibrational sound therapy too! I’m working on getting Johnny ready to join me with my human clients.

Starting entrainment sessions with Johnny. As you can see, so far so good 😴🐾. After a few more like this (adding the grounding bowl and chimes) I’ll add another human to the scene.

(wondering about the tablet on the table? I programmed a timer for my different sessions to help me keep on track ⏱)

This hot weather is making Kestrel so itchy and irritated (some of us humans too, am I right), so I’m making a quick and simple tea rinse of neem and calendula to pour on her to give her some relief. No need for a soapy bath, which we both appreciate. It’s as easy as making any herbal tea, I use my french press and then pour it into a dispensing container once it’s cooled down. Even I forget how easy it is! Sorry Kestrel for not doing this sooner!
