Sometimes I forget to appreciate that he really is a good boy (mostly)
(He went to the vet yesterday for his annual vaccs, and apart from yelling at a dog outside, he was really well behaved)

When they all behave. ❤️
Lots of continued practice and reinforcement to get here.

Life is a bit crazy for my family at the moments, so we have my parent’s dog, Honey staying with us. This evening we had a breakthrough - while Trey is still wearing his muzzle (for my peace of mind and everyone’s safety), they decided to play 🙂
(Ian Miller; Ñikki Bolts) ❤️❤️

Poppet is home.
Now that I have her back with me, I can share her story…
I first met “Belgenbeau I’m a Bond Girl” when she was about 3 months old. I fell in love with her then, referring to her as a fuzzy muppet. At the time I didn’t know she would come to live with me, but after a change in circumstances about 6 months later, I became her foster carer. I knew quickly this furry-footed Hobbit would never have another home, and was privileged to be trusted with her, and by her.
She found the world a little overwhelming at first, but gradually, her character grew. While Cara was the confident extrovert of my little pack, Poppy was the sensitive clown. She really taught me the importance of training the dog you have in front of you. She often learnt behaviours faster than her malinois sister, but was more reserved in showing off what she knew.
We travelled to various shows - and numerous specialties over the years, with Poppy quietly educating judges as to what a Laekenois is, often being the only one they would see.
While we didn’t pursue it, she showed natural talent in herding, and it was amazing to watch her really enjoy the challenges. She seemed most herself while playing with sheep.
Later on, she found more confidence through doing some basic scent work, where we made more friends.
Lure coursing became something she got better each time she ran - she was the only one of my 3 who actually ran a full course.
She gifted Belgenbeau with 2 litters of puppies - a couple from her first litter venturing to the other side of the world, and the others around Australia. Her second litter - with 3 boys of her own, grew when she calmly & protectively adopted 3 orphan ‘staffincollies’. I couldn’t have been more proud of her, as she raised her 6 beautiful babies to be confident and bold. (‘Blue boy’ would end up staying with me - Trey.)
For most of the past 4 years, my pack of 3 taught me so much - each having different strengths and their own challenges. When we said goodbye to Cara so suddenly, Poppy kept me smiling with her sense of humour & her curls soaked up many tears. She loved the sound of her own voice, even waking herself up by howling and barking in her sleep. She was selective when choosing her humans, but would allow others into her world if they would oblige with a good butt scratch.
In May last year, we discovered she had bone cancer. There were few options, so we chose to cherish whatever time she had left, making time to do her favourite things - a day herding, short beach trips, and running free at Lynda’s. She was brave and never showed the extent of her illness until her last week.
Writing this, I have tears on my cheeks & memories in my heart. Poppet changed me, and through her uniqueness, she touched others around the world - (the Laekenois community is small).
To all who knew her, thank you for being part of her life’s journey.
She is now home & at rest - sharing space with Kora and Cara, while Trey holds his space by my side.
Enjoy the photos & memories, my POPPET - (Aust. Ch. Belgenbeau I’m a Bond Girl HT) 2012 - 2024

Proud of my boy today. He accompanied me to an appointment (where he was very well behaved), and then stayed home all by himself while I went to the shop.
May not seem much, but it’s the first time in his life he has been alone - no other dogs, no humans - and he didn’t make a noise (except when he tipped the bin over🤦🏼‍♀️)
(I was spying on him with the cameras.)

Goodbye my girl.
Never enough time, but she was brave and changed me.
💔
(I probably won’t be replying to messages for a day or two, but I appreciate your thoughts while Trey and I adjust & grieve).

Coffee wood chews... bought 3 XL ones from budget pet products, and was happily surprised to see how big they are (compared to the ‘large’ one I got from the pet shop)
