Pet sitting 3 new rats this week! We brought them each a huge salad and snacks, and as the great Templeton would say, they enjoyed “a veritable smorgasbord-orgasbord”

Their meal included: salad greens, cucumber, carrot, tomato, grapes, corn on the cob, nectarine, dried pasta (great for teeth!) apples, blueberries, snap peas, superworms (protein), veggie dog pieces, homemade birdie bread and apple strudel small animal treats. Also their regular rat pellets.

Viola’s has been super busy the past few weeks. We’ve welcomed 3 new boarders! And two have fur.

Meet Seamus, Cookie, and Cream. While we don’t normally watch furry creatures, we offered these two lovely ladies a place to stay along with their scaley sibling.

Easter weekend is busy here this year! We even have a new boarder named Bean. She is super sweet and loves being out and about.

And of course, Dudley is back and just as sweet 😍 We love when he visits! Enjoy pics of these two cuties.

Farewell, Viola

Last night, my sweet Viola passed away at the age of almost 15. She’s gone to see Piper, Sara, Abby, Lucy and so many more of our loved ones, wherever that may be.

Viola inspired me and opened my eyes to the beauty of reptiles. She taught me to look past a tough exterior, while also teaching thousands of people about a fascinating and lovable animal.

Without Viola, my life would have been very different, and the lives of many of my previous rescues as well. I am forever thankful to her and her cute little nose. I really couldn’t have asked for a better dragon.

I love you so much, Vi. But you already knew that. My favourite chubby floating beardie.

I can’t believe I finally have to say goodbye. You’re such a special girl. Thank you.

VBR will soon be rebranding as our focus shifts. But I wanted to leave Viola’s followers with some food for thought.

One lesson I learned a while ago while rescuing some of the most neglected animals I had ever seen, is that one must chose their battles when it comes to rescuing. When I would see an animal starved almost to death, or an animal not given access to UVB for years, I would become very emotional and just want to scold people.

But I also saw another side; good owners that could no longer care for their pets due to health, financial or living situations. One of my own personal pets before coming here was given away because someone in the home was diagnosed with cancer, and it prevented the animal from living with them.

These are not the enemies of rescues. I felt compassion and understanding when an owner would cry while giving their animal to me. I was just a safe place for them to stay until they found their new forever homes. To me these were good owners. They did what they believed was best for their friend.

Empathy for those less fortunate is not a crime. Vilifying others for life circumstances you don’t understand will only breed contempt and a lack of empathy for others.

Education is our best friend. And empathy goes a long way. Remember that before casting your first stone.

I would like to thank all those who entrusted their animals to me. No matter the reason.

My doors will always be open if an animal needs a place temporarily. I will always answer questions and help in other ways.

Hey everyone! Vi and the gang have been doing super well recently and would like to give an update for everyone.

The remaining permanent residents are Walter my big Savannah boy, Mowgli, Little Whip, Opal who is a little Vi, Eevee the senior leopard gecko and of course, Viola.

Viola has been slowing down a lot recently and is definitely acting her age. But she’s still a bit piggy and never turns down a blueberry. Walter has his giant upgraded wood enclosure and is still a good boy and all the permanent previous rescues are living their best lives.

VBR is still offering advice to those who have questions, we are offering reasonably priced boarding and still selling Vi-Boost to loyal customers!
