On Sunday we said goodbye to our dear sweet Tilly Tot. Tilly was about 6 and came to us in 2019 with her sister Tilda, they had been rescued from a free range farm. Tilda had a broken leg and Tilly had a twisted, tilted neck. Tilly had recently been diagnosed with raised liver enzymes and was responding well to medication. She had good days and bad days. Then her last 3 days she went down hill very quickly. All she wanted to do was drink copious amounts of water and sit. She had sour crop and wasn't happy. I emptied her crop twice and it filled right back up.
Tilly was our bossy little wonky girl who was loved by everyone. Astro, Cherry Bomb and Ripley miss her and are bewildered at why she isn't chasing them away from the feed jars. Thank you so much to Dr Gloria from for coming out on a Sunday to help our girl pass peacefully and with dignity. We all miss our Totty girl. 🌈💔💜😔🥰❤️

Thank you everyone. Dora has now been rehomed.

Sweet Dora needs a safe new home with some accepting hen friends. Susan, located at Hoddles Creek, adopted her in January, but her current flock of 7 isa browns will not accept her and even with supervised socialisation, they are still attacking her quite viciously, causing injury, so she's currently separated and on her own. Hens need friends!
If you can offer Dora a lovely safe new home, please send a PM and we'll get you in contact with Susan.

This little girl was found wandering over at Ceres in Brunswick last Sunday ( not one of the Ceres hens) and has been staying with Merinda for the week. She needs to find a safe and loving forever home for her, as she doesn't have room to keep her. She took her to the vet for a check up where she got a clean bill of health, other than the awful feather loss and redness, that should clear up when she's in a stable environment with good food. If you are interested in her, please send a PM and we'll get you in contact with Merinda.

Trash from Nunawading is helping their grandfather rehome his 5 three year old Isa Browns. They prefer that they all go as a bonded group. If you have a safe and loving home and can take all 5, (please don't ask to split them up) send the page a PM and I'll give you their contact number. (Don't just make a comment here)

EDIT: THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE FOR RESPONDING. THE CAPTURE AND OVERNIGHT HOUSING HAS NOW BEEN SORTED.

We'll keep you updated as we help find homes for them.

Urgent: is there anyone over Rushworth way, near Shepparton, who can help contain around 30 dumped ex battery hens? We will coordinate their care but need someone local to get them safe before dark. Please message us if you can help

Can you help with Lefty's Place Farm Sanctuary wish list? Lots of very deserving rescued animals are waiting for for their parcels to arrive!

JANUARY WISH LIST!

I haven't done a wish list since October!

HERE'S SOME ESSENTIAL THINGS I REALLY NEED -

*Contribution towards suprelorin implants. Essential for hens with reproductive problems (ie all of the Isa Browns). $454.99 for a 5 pack (excluding postage)

*Chicken Drinkers - As I have more chickens than ever and more enclosures than ever, I need more of these. https://www.dineachook.com.au/chicken-drinkers-2-4-litre/

*Omelet Eglu Cubes - I'm trying to revamp the sanctuary. Getting rid of old wooden houses that can harbour mites. I'm looking to add three of these for some smaller flocks. They are expensive. If anyone sees any on marketplace or gumtree etc, please let me know. https://www.omlet.com.au/shop/chicken_keeping/eglu-cube-large-chicken-coops-and-runs/

THINGS I WOULD LOVE BUT ARE NOT ESSENTIAL RIGHT NOW -

*Energy Blocks - https://www.petstock.com.au/products/peters-energy-block-for-chickens-with-dried-mealworms-variant-100000005587?queryID=28b16477ad63b2b4a1f87628bef66b3a

A follow up from the last grower shed rescue in Nov, where 12 tiny girls came into our care. 8 of the girls went to live out at Coldstream with Deb and family, on their gorgeous property. Jaxx the doberman is their constant body guard when they're free ranging. They have so many places to explore, they are really enjoying life being chickens. They even 'helped' repair the irrigation system today!!
These girls were destined to a life of hell, being exploited by the egg industry, but they are the lucky ones. Millions of others every year do not get rescued and are subjected to the horrors of the egg industry, being used and abused and then slaughtered when deemed no longer useful. Please stop eating eggs. Be kind to chickens.

First time I've been called a nebulous for not agreeing to take someones unwanted roosters who she bred knowing she couldn't keep them if they turned out to be boys. I don't even know what acting like a nebulous means! 🤪

"""Hey I am needing get rid or roosters urgently they are bantems had babies they are 2 months old and biggest one is 10 months old
Let me know if you could get someone pick them up it’s URGENT
Based in Camberwell area"""

MCR: We don't take roosters. We get hundreds of requests from people like you every month. In future think before you hatch eggs. Its so irresponsible of you to hatch them and not be able to keep them because they are boys. Didn't think that through very well did you? And how callous...'get rid of' them. Ugh....

"""😂 what a reply no need to be rude about it but ok 👌 you live and learn

clearly someone is having a bad day, and you want to comment without knowing the whole story that’s ok what I expect from people like you anyway who want to act like a nebulous""""

MCR: Your 'whole story' will be the same as everyone else trying to get rid of unwanted roosters. Demanding and expecting rescue groups to step in and help you like you are doing us a favour. I've been rescuing for 12 years and unfortunately have come across so many like you. But you would be happy for 'someone like me' to take your self imposed "problem" off your hands.

And MCR is now blocked by the delightful Mia.
