Sweet Bella was abandoned at 16 and taken in by Friends of Pets. Bella has had the most wonderful home with her foster mom Jan. We are very glad Bella had so much love and are sad to report she peacefully passed away over the weekend. Thank you foster families!

Sad story for these two sweeties. Their momma is terminal and hospitalized. She called and requested we go to her home to get her dogs, tortoise and parrot. They had been alone four days by the time we got the call. We were able to capture the two fearful dogs and brought them into foster care. Our friend, Denise, rescued the bird and tortoise - we very much appreciate her help. The two dogs are settling in and making new friends. They both need vet checks (which we will get done) before they are available for adoption. Their momma is relieved her pets are safe, have the care they need and (eventually) the loving homes they deserve. Now that she no longer has to stress about her pets, their momma can concentrate on being comfortable, preparing for her near final days and passing in peace. May peace be with her - 💔

Join us THIS weekend - July 1st and July 2nd - from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for our Before 4th of July paw-ty!

Adoption fees this Saturday and Sunday are $4 ahead of Independence Day, to start your July off on the right paw!

Adoption fees are WAIVED this weekend for veterans, first responders, and active duty military members.

We will have $10 Fill It Full grocery bags for our Community Closet to get you set off on the right foot after your Adoption! There are leashes, collars, treats, beds, toys, dishes, and more!

This picture is of Camberley Kate, who was well known in Camberley as the lady who would wander the streets with her “stray dogs” cart and gather up all the waifs and strays. It is said that during her life she rescued and gave a loving home to over 600 homeless dogs.
Today, I’m honouring this inspirational lady who devoted her life to saving dogs. And what a legacy she did leave behind, and to all the animals, we must be kind.

- “Room 8” ( 1947–1968 )

Room 8 was a neighborhood cat who wandered into a classroom in 1952 at Elysian Heights Elementary School in Echo Park, California. He lived in the school during the school year and then disappeared for the summer, returning when classes started again. This pattern continued without interruption until the mid-1960s.
News cameras would arrive at the school at the beginning of the year waiting for the cat's return; he became famous and would receive up to 100 letters a day addressed to him at the school. Eventually, he was featured in a documentary called Big Cat, Little Cat and a children's book, A Cat Called Room 8. Look magazine ran a three-page Room 8 feature by photographer Richard Hewett in November 1962, titled "Room 8: The School Cat". Leo Kottke wrote an instrumental called "Room 8" that was included in his 1971 album, Mudlark.
As he got older, Room 8 was injured in a cat fight and suffered from feline pneumonia, so a family near the school volunteered to take him in. The school's janitor would find him at the end of the school day and carry him across the street.
His obituary in the Los Angeles Times rivaled that of major political figures, running three columns with a photograph. The cat was so famous that his obituary ran in papers as far away as Hartford, Connecticut. The students raised the funds for his gravestone. He is buried at the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California. 🐈 ❤️
