As a dog trainer, my days are often filled with energy, excitement, and the thrill of watching dogs learn and grow. But there's something truly special about those quiet moments in between—a sleepy dog curled up after a long day, the gentle rise and fall of their chest as they dream. These moments remind me of why I do what I do.

Training is about more than commands and obedience; it’s about building a relationship based on trust, respect, and understanding. It’s about giving our dogs the tools to live their best lives, while we learn to be better dog people.

Today, I’m sharing a snapshot of one of those quiet moments. It’s a reminder that at the end of the day, we’re not just training dogs; we’re nurturing a bond that lasts a lifetime.

Let Them Sniff: Why It's Crucial for Your Dog's Well-Being

Did you know that a dog’s sense of smell is up to 100,000 times more sensitive than ours? For dogs, sniffing is more than just a way to explore their environment—it's their primary way of understanding the world around them. Allowing your dog to sniff on walks and during playtime is essential for their mental stimulation, stress relief, and overall happiness.

When dogs sniff, they gather valuable information about other animals, people, and objects. This natural behavior helps them feel more secure and confident. Preventing your dog from sniffing can lead to frustration and anxiety, which might manifest as undesirable behaviors like pulling on the leash or excessive barking.

Here are a few tips to incorporate more sniffing opportunities into your dog’s routine:

1. Sniffing Walks: Dedicate a portion of your daily walk to letting your dog explore at their own pace. Let them sniff around to their heart’s content.

2. Scent Games: Hide treats or toys around your home or yard and encourage your dog to find them. This engages their nose and provides mental enrichment.

3. Variety in Locations: Change up your walking routes. New environments mean new scents for your dog to investigate, keeping their walks exciting and enriching.

We're excited to have these three lovely ladies join our 3-Week Canine Camp! 🎉

- Poppy is a sweet 6-year-old mini Aussiedoodle.
- Lulu is a spirited 3-year-old mini Aussiedoodle.
- Rosie is a charming 3-year-old mini Poodle.

These girls are here to work on some important skills: reducing their reactivity when company visits, learning to walk confidently on a leash without a harness, and addressing the occasional p*e accidents Rosie has. Plus, we're going to help Lulu and Poppy kick the habit of jumping up on guests. We can't wait to see their progress!

▪️ Health: neutered, idiopathic seizures (controlled with Rx), seasonal allergies, UTD with vaccines
▪️ Meet and greet required!

My husband and I have come to the heartbreaking decision to rehome our dog, Papi. His reactivity with our other dog has become unpredictable which we can't have with our 3-month-old.

He is weary of new people but warms up quickly when armed with treats. We have had him for 5 years and have worked extensively to train him using an e-collar. Ideally, he would thrive in a home without other pets or young children.

Fully house trained. Loves ear scratches, cuddles, tug of war, and walks. Eats twice daily, naps often, and LOVES snacks. Dislikes include high humidity and loud surprises.
